00:00 Intro
00:39 Caramelizing the onions
02:23 Preparing the bread
03:44 Adding the toppings
06:35 Spreading butter on top
08:25 Placing in the oven
09:15 Trying the sandwich
INGREDIENTS
- 1 1/2 large onions, sliced
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 12 large sweet sandwich buns
- 2 tbsp Dijon mustard (reserve 2 tsp)
- 1/2 cup fig jam
- 12 oz (12 slices) Black Forest ham
- 4 oz smoked Gouda cheese, shredded
- 4 tbsp butter melted
- 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tsp poppy seeds
INSTRUCTIONS
- Melt 2 tbsp butter in a 12-inch skillet over medium heat. Once melted, add the sliced onions. Slowly sauté the onions, stirring occasionally. Once the onion begins to brown, after about 8-10 minutes, continue to sauté until they are reduced in size and deeply browned, an additional 8-10 minutes. Add salt to the onions and remove them from the heat to cool.
- Slice the buns in half and arrange the bottom halves of the buns in a 9×13-inch baking dish. Brush the bottoms of the buns with Dijon mustard, reserving 2 tsp. Fold one piece of ham to fit on each bun and top with about 1 tbsp of the caramelized onions, using up all the onion. Evenly distribute the shredded Gouda cheese. Spread the top half of each bun with fig jam and set it on the sandwich.
- Preheat the oven the 350°F.
- Mix the reserved 2 tsp Dijon mustard and the Worcestershire sauce with the melted butter. Brush the tops of the sandwiches with the butter mixture and drizzle the remaining butter over the sandwiches. Sprinkle with the poppy seeds and place in the preheated oven. Bake until the tops are golden and the cheese is melted, 15-20 minutes.

I swear to Heaven-Above.... I can smell the onions caramelizing.
Note to self: Fig jam. Store bought or homemade. It looks very addictive, as you said. Thank you!
I just love how everything you make is so elegant and yet so attainable! ❤❤❤
Everything looks delicious!
Literally just made these last week for my daughters birthday! The fig jam is a fun take, I’ll have to try that next time!
Pregnant woman here 🙋♀️ once i saw this recipe i had to make it asap 😂 I actually made these today...here in Greece we are not familiar to such flavors...thus my hubby and I went nuts...the fig jam such a smart addition!!!!Thank you for sharing this recipe 🙏

Yummmmmmm!
Yum! May I ask the variety of the tall green and white pumpkin/gourd on your counter? Thank you.
First one. Looks delicious.
They look so yummy, I couldnt click fast enough!! 🤤
I just made these sans the fig jam, but everything else. My ham was lightly sauced in a bbq sauce. I always caramelize my onions. This time some of them had some cowboy candy added to them and some just had thin sliced dill pickles.
Yummm 😋
Ohhh I don’t like mustard so I’ll make this w/o it 🥰
o my Goodness
I’m thinking this technique with croque madame ingredients might be amazing. Thanks for the recipes and the inspiration. -we will probably have to leave the egg off
Yummm
I want to come cook/play,,,and EAT...in your kitchen!!!
I am making these today. Using strawberry rhubarb jam instead of fig and toasted sesame instead of poppy seeds on Hawaiian sweet rolls. I am thinking roasted asparagus as the veggie to go with sandwich.
Just in time for football!
Dang! That looks amazing! 😢😢. I can’t eat dairy. I’ll just have to enjoy making it for the family. Love your videos sweetheart. You remind me of my son so much. 🥰👍 you do a great job.
You can buy non dairy cheeses.
@@willothewispl yes I do that but it’s just not the same as the real thing. 😉😄😄🥰
❤️
I’m looking for good quality pans what do you use?
Oh yes...with Kaleb's potato salad..
What other cheese could you use besides Gouda
Any cheese....cheddar, swiss, provolone
Any meat...beef, turkey, salami, cooked bacon
🥰✅
You cut the whole pack together. 😉
Would turkey work?
Sure would! Any sliced lunch meat would be great!
i dont see why not but the sweet savory ham in his recipe might call for a honey cured type turkey or sweeter version
Come cook for me please
KALEB I CAN’T EAT HAM- WHAT IF USE TURKEY OR CHICKEN THEN WHAT CAN I ADD??
Go for it with any meat. I’d personally roast up a handful of chicken breasts and slice those onto the rolls. Or stick a beef roast in a slow-cooker one night and slice that up. The other ingredients will work fine.
Turkey + Swiss?
Chicken + Mornay?
Beefsteak + Provolone?
If you look into different panini recipes, the combinations can easily be adapted into these sliders 🤤 can’t wait to try these out! I’m already considering the addition of bell peppers, mushrooms… different jams! Possibilities are endless 😁
Wow looks amazing!!! We’re having my dads birthday lunch here tomorrow. I’m 100% making these thank you
Oh I’m making these!! They look amazing!! Thanks for the recipe!
