City Crews Harvest Tree for 2023 Honolulu City Lights Celebration!

- It’s beginning to look a lot like the holidays! Mahalo to the North Shore Stables for donating their Cooke Pine tree to be the centerpiece of the 2023 Honolulu City Lights Celebration!
The City’s Urban Forestry, Parks & Facilities Maintenance, and Environmental Services staff were joined by a Honolulu Police Department escort to harvest, secure, and transport 55 feet of the tree to town. All in all we had loads of heavy equipment and some three dozen City workers assisting. It was quite a process!
The remaining 25 foot of the trunk were provided to the stables and will be used to make waʻa (canoes) and other navigational resources as part of their keiki enrichment program. Leaving no part of the tree to waste. The tree will be installed at Honolulu Hale Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2023 with the opening night festivities scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 2, 2023 with the Electric Light Parade down King Street beginning at 6 pm.
