- When your phones charging port / micro usb port is broken you are in big trouble. This video shows you a quick method on emergency charging your phone without its charger / usbport.
Use this method only if you can supervise device and in case of an emergency. This is not a valid way to charge your phone every day. - Jak na to + styl
This worked for me, and I am a 63-year-old grandma with 0 mechanical aptitude. Thank you sooooo much! :-)
Linda Frommer Yeah and it's a great way to set your house on fire, granny.
Uhh granny you shouldn't do this..
You go Granny!!!
Drex 66 whoops too late
Yo
12/2/2019. Almost 3 years and I can finally charge my phone. Worked the first time. Thank you.
Thank you. Im here in Dallas Tx, in the hospital with my daughter. We live in El paso tx. And this saved me thank you so much. My port broke and my phone turned off and wouldnt charge. I wasnt able to comunicate with my wife and kids till i did this. Thanks God bless.
You might want to warn people about the fire/explosion risk they run if the wires short to the positive and negative ports, not to mention the potential damage to the USB charger or device it's being plugged in to. Otherwise, it's a good way to get out of a bind temporarily.
Yeah and he really dont say or show what charging cord he uses. Like i cut the ends off 2 different cords and there is no black wire. So i wonder how many people did the same and went aheead and guessed at which wire to use instead of the black one and they smoked their battery or fried their phone.
only if theyre DUMB
I just needed to charge a phone to get a video off of it and the charging port was broken. THIS WORKED LIKE A CHARM!!! Thanks luppien :)
I have an older phone used for hotspot and the USB charger keeps breaking. This method worked well for me. Important to note that because the data cables are not connected properly (I tried though) your phoner will not recognize that is being charged (even though it is) or show you the percentage. Anyway, I got my old phone back and it's working great, thanks for the video!
This really helped me, thanks so much! 79% charge in a little over an hour. This after struggling with a wobbly USB connection which eventually had to be held manually to start charging from 0%. Thank you!!!!!!
Thank you very much. The USB port of my Note 2 broke and I was desperate to find a solution, your video helped me a lot, it worked perfectly !
It's probably worth upgrading from a note 2
I can vouch for this, took an old broken charger (wires were cut somewhere inside along its second half) and wired it up like in the video. Not sure if this differs from battery to battery, but although the charging was quick, (17% in the matter of 2-4 minutes) the drop off was exceedingly quick as well. Going from 17% to 7 within 10-15 minutes. This works if you need to make one or a couple of calls. But I'm not quite sure if it damaged my battery or not.It was an old battery none the less so about time for an upgrade.
TL;DR Only do this if you need to get in contact with someone, or if you want to tell some people that you won't be reachable via phone until you get a new one or it repaired.
Thanks a bunch. I had 2 old phones that I was just going to trade in for some credit but it used proprietary charging cables from the 90s which I have lost. Using this method; I managed to boot the phones up enough to trade in. One tip; the battery warms up REALLY quickly, so I put it on a power bar and cycled it on for 2-5 min charge with rest in between so it could cool down. I had a non-contact thermometer I used to ensure the battery temp stayed below 35 degrees celsius as well (or just feel it and turn it off when warm). Still a dangerous method; but it worked for me. Do not use this on a regular basis. Be prepared for thermal runaway (I had the phone in a pyrex container and was watching it constantly to be ready to throw it out the door.
You are so smart couldn't stop laughing while reading your post especially when I saw waiting to throw it outdoor..but the person should have also talked about the risk involved in this method and then tag it as emergency/temporary way to charge a mobile phone with damaged charging port

My husband's lg stylo won't charge at all due to a broken charger port and we thought our only option was to buy a separate battery w/charging dock for the battery itself. But an hour after ordering the battery & charging dock I came across this video and figured I'd give it a try while I was waiting for the order to come in the mail. Well to my surprise it worked and it worked better than a regular charger. Within a half hour this method charged my husband's phone to over 70% from being completely dead where we couldn't even get it to power up for even second.
Thank you so much now my husband will be able to use his phone while waiting on the new battery & charging dock to come in the mail.
total success! I have a classic Sanyo 7400 flip phone, but no charger. I looked everywhere, but can't figure out a substitute charger. Your method helped me check if the phone still works - and it does! Thank you. Btw: Best not to charge it through a USB port on your most expensive device ;-)
What if you have a non-removable battery are you pretty much screwed
My lenovo is like that
That is by design. you also can't pull your battery to keep from being tracked.
Reason I down votre
Just splice the wires going to the battery and connect a TP4056 (< $1 on ebay) charger with some alligator clips.
Easy to do
dude its 2018 and this just worked for mine thanks mate i owe you a pint
Ill take a quart...lol
its 2020 and it worked for a old phone i found Lmao
My cousin recommended this method to me and since a lot of you said it was working I'm gonna try it out fingers crossed
Thank you so much it worked I was using a phone from 2010 in 2024 a old phone for listening songs the charging port was working fine and one day it broke and I charged using rhis method and it worked thank you so much
This worked great for me. I charged my mother's damaged phone and extracted the needed information. Thank you!!
red + and black - I put the wire in between the connectors
Super video and well done for your great topic, so useful to help buy some time when your phone is failing. Please, I have a charge doctor device, which measures amps and voltage when connected between the charger unit and usb cable. My phone charge port was wearing out after 4 years of use of my smartphone using micro usb connector and I was stuck with an unchargeable, thanks to you not now. Can I connect the usb leads red and black to the positive and negative, directly to the battery without the phone, for a few hours and what should I look out for, maybe a hot battery after a bit of time say? Is there a little device to help charge the battery off the phone? Many thanks..
I've got nothing to lose anymore since my phone is completely dead anyhow so I'm gonna try it wish me luck. If it damages anything it won't matter. Thanks!
To this day his phone is still dead.
@@josephfranco7561 😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@josephfranco7561 Well, I'd assume Judy is a she/her but, yeah . . .
Judy, come back & let us know if you had any luck, or if that phone hit the dumpster...we gotta know now.
🤪🤣🤪🤣
Please don't do this! Li-pol batteries must be charged in very specific way using voltage and current limitation. Circuits in your phone do this, not the charger itself. Doing it this way you are bypassing those circuits and applying unregulated 5 Volts directly to your battery. It will destroy your battery quickly and there is also a risk of fire or explosion. Li-pol batteries are very vulnerable.
yeah but you forgot that the battery it self has also regulating circuit and at the end of the day this works just fine, you will end up with just 1 protection instead of 2
SirWolfCZ I’m not quite sure why he doesn’t use the 4 battery prongs
Dude, the battery has it very own regulation circuit. You're thinking of unregulated R/C LiPo batteries. Cheers.
Now a days androids come with built in batteries hence this is the only way remains available.
Dude I just needs my phone charged one last time to get my stuff and then trash it. Thanks for worrying tho!
so my phone has 4 nub things so left to right positive should go what one and negative would go in witch one?
What If My charger cabel dont have black and red cable in it but have black and white in it?
I need to put black to - and white to +?
Thank man that is so nicely working. I am glad that your trick is correct because i have seen many videos but many of them doesn't really works but your work is appreciable.
OMG, I have been without my phone for a few days!!, Thank you. IT WORKED!!!
aren't hacks wonderful !! I never give up on the first problem, I research.
Worked like a charm, thanks.
holy jeez i gotta give you props for this man, my phone needs to retire since i had it for 3 yrs and its just an alcatel but until next pay day, this thing is unstoppable,
Excellent! Thanks, very much!
Can the little piece in the middle of the port break and how to avoid it?
Thanks man...worked a treat with your instructions.
Thank you sir. 5 days before christmas and I don't feel like cell phone shopping. I will manually charge till after christmas and hit swappa.
its not working and then its spark!
Niceee I'm able to write this reply because of this video. The charger I used only had a red + and black - wire so this was incredibly easy. Thank you.
I wish you could do a close up of how you connected the hot wire and ground
Yes me too. I need to charge an old phone so I can transfer some files
do u have to wait a while until the battery thing on d screen?
Thx m8. my note 3 just recently lost it charging port, and this helps alot.
Logan Perkins I have a Note 3 as well. the charging port no longer works can you help me by telling me what you did?? I don't have a plus/minus sign where the battery is supposed to be..
+MJ 23 have a look at your battery, there should be a + & - there, that corresponds to the plus and minus on the phone
so have you bought a new one or is it just the cable
Logan Perkins dude same
Logan Perkins don't stick this in a note 7 tho, or "ALLAHU AKBAR!"
What if the charger doesn't have black and red wires and it just multiple gold ones ?
i know this is old but can this work w/o battery? just needed to transfer files from my broken phone to a new one
Do you plug in the other side of the usb port ?
Okay on my LG v10 my port is broken but when I try this it powers my phone it shows fully charged and when I unhook it then it's dead again how do I get it to charge ????
I just got a free LG-D321 from my friend's roommate. It definitely works, and the port was working for one split second but now I know it's broken. When I plug my LGL34C in it makes a sound. When I plug in the D321 it doesnt, but I can get it to vibrate. Thanks.
Ok... so this took me 2hours to make sure it was perfect and not one fiber array lol I was paranoid as heck to try this! lol it's plugged in and it didn't explode in my face lol I'm waiting 10 min to see if there is any charge ... my luck the charger I decided to use was probably junk lol THANK YOU! I was searching for a way to charge my note 4
Thx ....Used this to rig my Bluetooth speaker that won't charge...Worked like a charm
Can we do same for a smart watch battery
so some cables have four some have 2
Sadly mine was produced without ground and hot indicators at the battery connectors. Ugh. Simple solution for many here though. Makes perfect sense. Thanks so much for this video.
if you have access to a multimeter you could check which terminals are pos/neg
Mine is the same. I'm going to try and Google which one is the positive.
my battery is not removable though
I want yo try this but frightened incase i do it wrong and get electric shock ..yiu say make sure wires dont touch or not to touch the other gold parts ..what will happen if they did .,?
I used to charge two of my phones back in 2012 this way because my charger broke it's a great way to charge your quick
my s5 had its charger port brake a few years ago and i thought id never turn it on again thank you
Thank you I thought I'd never get my old phone working but discharges faster
How do you differentiate between positive and negative on a Samsung J2 Prime cellphone?🙏
that alright and all that but that looks like a blackberry q10 and that usually comes with an extra battery and an external battery charger so even if your charge port is broken you can still charge the extra battery in the external charger and swap out dead for charged.
It is a Blackberry Q10 but it might be country specific what you get? I did not get an extra battery and charger in the Netherlands.
Definitely works! Thx
What dose the yellow and white colour do
Please can you do one on a non-removable battery I've been trying to charge it to get my data onto my new phone I'm begging you
my cable has red, green and white, which color do i use ?
and my battery symbols are on the phone and when i place it, it looks like it shows the 1st and 3rd pin. should i still use 1st and 4th or use 3rd instead of 4th pin
In this case use the 3d. You need to use the one that conducts the power.
Thanks so much my phone broke during conronavirus and this video helped me at least charge it!
It helped a lot. Thank you~ :D
@luppien can It work on my LG G4?? The charging port is broken can it work if I do it the same way??
It has a removable battery so it should work!
Will it work at samsung galaxy alpha?
And my. Samsung Galaxy s4 active won't charge anymore
Does this work for my Lenovo A5000?
My port tab is bent, tried to lift it to no avail. I KNEW someone could help and you did ! I was a bit desperate, my only phone/communication AND I needed it to work tomorrow so my grocery order at WalMart would go thru, as they call to confirm and I would call to pick up. I was afraid they wouldn't do my order IF they couldn't get me. SO , You really helped me and I thank you. Would like your take on New product I've seen that supposed to improve your port, a magnetic type connection. UGH, not sure, but maybe you'll know, and I know if my tab is gone, maybe that wouldn't work either. But , I now have your hack !!!! 😀😁💌
OK, I took the large end of the USB cable off. Problem is I need the larger end, it works on my adapter for USB to plug in wall outlet. And one in my vehicle. Hard to start over, ruin another cable. Then I just couldn't get those tiny wires around the tines of the area you showed. I guess I will got to a shop. I do appreciate that others were helped. I do think more info on which END of the USB cable could be used and why. Thanks.
@@KindCountsDeb3773 Obviously you cut off the end that plugs into the wall, the phone will generate the electricity needed to charge itself all on its own! Thank god you took it to a shop you would've ended up blowing yourself up.
@@lancepate well, no blowing up around here ! lol Be Well !
@@KindCountsDeb3773 you're right knowing which ndacut would definitely make a big difference I know this was a couple of years ago but I just wanted to give you information case you hadn't found it yet by chance the Dollar Tree carries phone chargers as well as headphones which I found to be just as good as the others for a dollar 25 each and they generally have all of the Chargers I'm not sure if they have the iPhone chargers but they do have baby mini micro and the c-type Chargers and they're the only ones I've ever used for years so they definitely work well and if you happen to forget one or need an X1 for an extra area of your house I got them for all six of my kids guess that's why I just thought I would pass that information on to you you probably also could have spliced the wires back together with electrical tape the way we used to do old cords just matching the colors of the wires back of course taking them together and then putting it all back together and then cut the other end off I would think
@@staciewebb4829 Very kind of you and not too late. I am very busy with important family stuff right now and will try you idea and get back. Thanks for your advice.
I have one black wire and one white wire what do i do?
can i use my phone while charging like that?
wait hold on how do i do this with a lg k7?!??? someone pleaseeee helpp mee
What if I’m in a car and have bo charger but I’m not the driver?
Worked like a Pro....Thanks
Awesome!! Thanks man 👍👍
I did that before I watched this video... I was going to post how to do this but I came across this video..Beat me to it...lol. if you all are wondering Red is the hot +, Black is the ground -, white is the data + and green is the data-..Also you can keep charging in sleep mode but you have to go to device management, then click universal serial bus controllers, then usb root hub, right click properties then click power management then uncheck the box that says save energy
Nice 1M people along me with broken port
Excellent Idea. Thank you.
Thank you so much from South Africa. Just what I struggled long searching the net. I need it for Bluetooth speaker though. Thanx
this may work, and it's easy but bad camera angle and footage since your hand is quite in the way and poor focus. remember, many people watching this are not avid DIYers. -1
that helped me a lot , thank you very much
how long cAN I CHARGE THE BATTERY TNX
is there a safer more technical way to go about this? thats bypassing the internal chip that is in charge of making sure it doesn't explode right?
Hey, I am afraid not exept for external chargers. This is meant as a last resort for data recovery
@@luppien ok gotcha, in that case good video man thanks!
Rewired is the battery supposed to freeze on %
@luppien which side do U cut BC how is the other side suppose to get power
The power is the USB A side, that side you put in the computer, you cut the micro part.
@@luppien K thanks but the phone I was trynna fix shattered the other day but thanks anyway
what if my phone is not battery removal what i will gonna do? please help me
Can I open the phone while the coils are still connected on the nutches or it is a bad thing to do?
Always remove the power before opening.
what if my battery cannot be removed plz reply
How does it store power and u aren't charging the battery
What about the phones which the batteries don't pop out
Well my charge port doesn't work right I have to put my with the cord plugged in I have to l have to put it in s certain position for it to charge cause my phone won't charge just by putting my charge cord in
Yeah, that's how mine acted before it died. I would advice replacing the usb port at a phone store before using this method though. This is more of an emergency fix. Some phone's have non replaceable usb ports though.
you said we may use any of the four colors but we only need two correct? and place it where the golden prt of the battery and the phone meet right? this doesnt work for me and my wires are copper ( brown) so idk
You can't use any of the four. You need to use the black and red one. The red goes on the plus and the black goes on the minus part of the battery. Be carefull not to make the wires touch or to touch one of the other connector pins.
luppien can i use white instead of black?
luppien also i have four pins so do you know of they are half - and other half + by any chance
No 1 is + and 1 is. There should be a small logo next to the ones that are. Or on your battery itself. If you don't have a black/red wire you can find different usb cable layouts online. It's all about the + and - cable and connector.
Shadow Tuber use the black and the red only.
God BLESS you sir!
It deffo works 😊 I got my Alcatel up to 69% from 0.Thank you 👏
Thanks @luppien may God bless you!!!!!!
is there a method for tablets
This is great for those of you who have a removable battery, but many phones don't and to take them apart... some are not fun
Does it work for for zte
Thank you very much bro it does work it charged my battery 80 % in less than an hour 👌😎✔💯
Can u do 1 for samsung tab 4 my usb broke
I did it!.. thank you so much :)
May 27,2019
What phone did you use this trick on?? Am really considering attempting it
You use a charger or a usb cord?
hey I have a usb wire. it has four wires. red, blue, yellow, and white. does anyone know which one is the negative charge??
That's unfortunately a combination i have never seen before. You might be able to google it, are you sure it is a USB cable?
the white one is the negative
and the red one is the positive
USB -> Battery -> LED -> Cable
O
[ _ _ _ _ ]------ [_______} ----l l ------- Cable
- +
Just check the connection, the outer ports of the usb are plus and minus ,easiest way is to use a multimeter but an 1.5 V battery and an LED will work just fine... just connect one end to the port then test the ends of the wires with the end of the LED ( the battery in the middle ) if the LED lights up u found the correct cable
i hope this will solve your problem.
You´re welcome
I saw in the description that this is for emergencies only.
Will it cause damage it you charge your phone this way long term?
potentially yes
