  • When your phones charging port / micro usb port is broken you are in big trouble. This video shows you a quick method on emergency charging your phone without its charger / usbport.
    Use this method only if you can supervise device and in case of an emergency. This is not a valid way to charge your phone every day.

    You might want to warn people about the fire/explosion risk they run if the wires short to the positive and negative ports, not to mention the potential damage to the USB charger or device it's being plugged in to. Otherwise, it's a good way to get out of a bind temporarily.

      Yeah and he really dont say or show what charging cord he uses. Like i cut the ends off 2 different cords and there is no black wire. So i wonder how many people did the same and went aheead and guessed at which wire to use instead of the black one and they smoked their battery or fried their phone.

    I have an older phone used for hotspot and the USB charger keeps breaking. This method worked well for me. Important to note that because the data cables are not connected properly (I tried though) your phoner will not recognize that is being charged (even though it is) or show you the percentage. Anyway, I got my old phone back and it's working great, thanks for the video!

    I can vouch for this, took an old broken charger (wires were cut somewhere inside along its second half) and wired it up like in the video. Not sure if this differs from battery to battery, but although the charging was quick, (17% in the matter of 2-4 minutes) the drop off was exceedingly quick as well. Going from 17% to 7 within 10-15 minutes. This works if you need to make one or a couple of calls. But I'm not quite sure if it damaged my battery or not.It was an old battery none the less so about time for an upgrade.
    TL;DR Only do this if you need to get in contact with someone, or if you want to tell some people that you won't be reachable via phone until you get a new one or it repaired.

    Thanks a bunch. I had 2 old phones that I was just going to trade in for some credit but it used proprietary charging cables from the 90s which I have lost. Using this method; I managed to boot the phones up enough to trade in. One tip; the battery warms up REALLY quickly, so I put it on a power bar and cycled it on for 2-5 min charge with rest in between so it could cool down. I had a non-contact thermometer I used to ensure the battery temp stayed below 35 degrees celsius as well (or just feel it and turn it off when warm). Still a dangerous method; but it worked for me. Do not use this on a regular basis. Be prepared for thermal runaway (I had the phone in a pyrex container and was watching it constantly to be ready to throw it out the door.

    My husband's lg stylo won't charge at all due to a broken charger port and we thought our only option was to buy a separate battery w/charging dock for the battery itself. But an hour after ordering the battery & charging dock I came across this video and figured I'd give it a try while I was waiting for the order to come in the mail. Well to my surprise it worked and it worked better than a regular charger. Within a half hour this method charged my husband's phone to over 70% from being completely dead where we couldn't even get it to power up for even second.
    Thank you so much now my husband will be able to use his phone while waiting on the new battery & charging dock to come in the mail.

    Super video and well done for your great topic, so useful to help buy some time when your phone is failing. Please, I have a charge doctor device, which measures amps and voltage when connected between the charger unit and usb cable. My phone charge port was wearing out after 4 years of use of my smartphone using micro usb connector and I was stuck with an unchargeable, thanks to you not now. Can I connect the usb leads red and black to the positive and negative, directly to the battery without the phone, for a few hours and what should I look out for, maybe a hot battery after a bit of time say? Is there a little device to help charge the battery off the phone? Many thanks..

    Please don't do this! Li-pol batteries must be charged in very specific way using voltage and current limitation. Circuits in your phone do this, not the charger itself. Doing it this way you are bypassing those circuits and applying unregulated 5 Volts directly to your battery. It will destroy your battery quickly and there is also a risk of fire or explosion. Li-pol batteries are very vulnerable.

    • @ParosPasxaRide
      @ParosPasxaRide Před 6 lety +18

    I did that before I watched this video... I was going to post how to do this but I came across this video..Beat me to it...lol. if you all are wondering Red is the hot +, Black is the ground -, white is the data + and green is the data-..Also you can keep charging in sleep mode but you have to go to device management, then click universal serial bus controllers, then usb root hub,right click properties then click power management then uncheck the box that says save energy

    this may work, and it's easy but bad camera angle and footage since your hand is quite in the way and poor focus. remember, many people watching this are not avid DIYers. -1

    • @luppien
      @luppien  Před 7 lety

      Yeah, that's how mine acted before it died. I would advice replacing the usb port at a phone store before using this method though. This is more of an emergency fix. Some phone's have non replaceable usb ports though.

    you said we may use any of the four colors but we only need two correct? and place it where the golden prt of the battery and the phone meet right? this doesnt work for me and my wires are copper ( brown) so idk

    • @luppien
      @luppien  Před 7 lety

      You can't use any of the four. You need to use the black and red one. The red goes on the plus and the black goes on the minus part of the battery. Be carefull not to make the wires touch or to touch one of the other connector pins.

      @yuginerd3703 Před 7 lety

      luppien also i have four pins so do you know of they are half - and other half + by any chance

    • @luppien
      @luppien  Před 7 lety

      No 1 is + and 1 is. There should be a small logo next to the ones that are. Or on your battery itself. If you don't have a black/red wire you can find different usb cable layouts online. It's all about the + and - cable and connector.

      USB -> Battery -> LED -> Cable
      O
      [ _ _ _ _ ]------ [_______} ----l l ------- Cable
      - +
      Just check the connection, the outer ports of the usb are plus and minus ,easiest way is to use a multimeter but an 1.5 V battery and an LED will work just fine... just connect one end to the port then test the ends of the wires with the end of the LED ( the battery in the middle ) if the LED lights up u found the correct cable
      i hope this will solve your problem.
      You´re welcome
