      Taiwan was called "ilha formosa" wich means adorabel island and sri lanka was called "ceylão" by the portuguese discoveres wich where the first europeans discovering those lands. In other words, the portuguese reached the goal wich alexander the great and columbus failed, but tragicly never reached the same fame as those two loosers. Taking in consider that uruguay was portuguese too before beeing spanish you got the point why there are two places called formosa. Is that argentinian province nearby uruguay? Just take note that formosa means beautyfull or adorabel in portguese.

    (4:30) The reason why it says "eSwatini" on Open Street Map is because it's using the local language and not the user language. For example, it also says "Deutschland" while Google says "Germany" for English uses. This also means that it has been using "Česko" (Czechia) for a very long time, but Google changed it to "Czechia" in English in the recent years.

      It's simple, Durand Line was made by some British officials and the Afghans disagreed with the British officials so when the British Raj was divided into two new countries (India and Pakistan in 1947) eventually the Afghans claimed that there is no Durand Line between them and Pakistan and tried to invade newly created Pakistan's territory and the clashes began, Pakistan pushed them back and now have fenced nearly 80%-90% of the Durand Line as of 2021 with high surveillance cameras, forces guarding the border.
      One of the main reasons to fence the Afghanistan and Iran borders with Pakistan was the crossing of terrorists into Pakistan.

    Fun fact: The Mercator map throws out the accuracy of size for the purpose of the accuracy of angles. That's why the poles are magnified and the equator squished, because the world is a sphere. It isn't racist.

    • @chip1646
      @chip1646 Před 4 lety +1

      Germany doesn't have any territorial disputes for East Prussia anymore. They were forced to sign a treaty saying they would drop all the disputes. There is also a polish majority living there now so there's no point. The final point is when Russia offered Kalingrad to Germany they refused because the territory isn't connected to them, therefore making it hard to keep that part stable.

      Yeah, they're pretty much a network of small inland seas. The mind blowing thing is how they're just the leftover of the original inland seas that were there after the glaciers melted. The sheer volume of fresh water involved there was utterly bonkers.

    1:47 That slanted line looks dodgy because people just naturally assume the line should be straight but because the land goes down Canada and isn't straight that will likely be why. It's not the line that's not straight basically it's the land relative to the map.

    Fun Fact! The United States is so large, that in total area, it's only 1.5% smaller than Canada. But in terms of total land, the United States is actualy bigger than Canada. The United States in fact is so large, that you could fit all 28 countries that make up the EU, and place them inside of the United States, and still have enough room left over to fit the world's "7th largest" country of India inside of the United States.
