  • While there have been plenty of horror remakes over the years, there's only one directed by Martin Scorsese. And while that should be enough to garner limitless interest, add in Robert De Niro and Jessica Lange and you've got a recipe for something spectacular. So join us as we dive into the maniacal world of Max Cady in Cape Fear.

SERIES SYNOPSIS: Hollywood has had its fair share of historically troubled productions. Whether it was casting changes, actor deaths, fired directors, in-production rewrites, constant delays, budget cuts or studio edits, these films had every intention to be a blockbuster but were beset with unforeseen disasters. Sometimes huge hits, sometimes box office bombs. Either way, we have to ask: WTF Happened To This Horror Movie?

@@trhansen3244 well, the violence and sexuality of this one was over the top compared to the original as well.. I don't think his performance ruined anything. When I saw the color out of space, I kind of felt at times that Nicholas Cage being Nicholas Cage was a bit over the top and distracted from the visuals and the story. Did you feel like DeNiro's performance was inappropriate in relation to the other characters? I agree that the original Cape fear is superior, (I may be a bit biased, since the night of the hunter is one of my favorite movies), but as far as remakes go, I think this one holds up pretty well...

I saw this when I was 10 and it absolutely haunted me for years. It scared me more than any slasher or monster movie by far. I finally rewatched it at 16 and was able to more successfully suspend reality and see it as more of an art house film. After several more years, having seen all of Scorsese’s films as well as Hitchcock’s- the memory of how much it terrified me remains. Seeing Cady brutally assault that poor woman at such a young age gave me a permanent awakening of just how monstrous one has to be to do this. It singlehandedly shaped my feelings about rape and violence- terrifying me so much that people like this actually exist. Therefore, you just can’t call the making of this film and its performances anything short of brilliant.

Damn, you said it. Scorsese also directed the most terrifying episode of Spielberg's "Amazing Stories" about a ghostly serial killer that got closer every time you saw your reflection. Shout out to the great Elmer Bernstein. I was a member of his "Filmmusic Collection" and loved his re-recording of Bernard Herrmann's rejected score for Hitchcock's "Torn Curtain". What he did with Herrmann's music from the original "Cape Fear" with the addition of other unused music was awesome. Freddie Francis brought his "Hammer Horror" influence. Stars all around. A terrific remake but that weirdly haunting sound of people screaming on a roller coaster made that ending so unsettling.

    Absolutely weird and brutal

Nick Nolte? Darn I thought it was Josh Brolin. Maybe it was Nolte pulling a Brolin. This is one of those movies that I just couldn’t watch for a second time.

I absolutely love this movie. Its one of my top favorites. I think Robert Deniro did an amazing job with max cady. He achieved of of the hardest things to do with a character which is to be a villian everyone loves, hates, and fears.

Oh the irony you present this video on the same day that DeNiro finds himself the victim of a break-in at his home in NY

Great movie. De Niro is the Man in this movie.

If an actor is an asshole and POS in real life, he'll be great at playing gangsters, criminals, and jerks in movies........

One of the rare cases of the remake being superior to the original. One of my favourites from Scorsese

Martin Scorsese's directing is way far better than J. Lee Thompson's.
