This was the jam back in the day, loved Donald Byrd and the Blackbirds, real musicians creating real music 🎵🎶 Shout out to Prince.
Hey Tim! I'm a native Washingtonian; so, I'm really loving this! The Blackbyrds were from D.C. and spent a lot of time in and around the park. So, this was their ode to "Rock Creek Park". When this song came out in 1975, my friends and I heard it regularly on radio AND blasting from the radio of every car that drove by us. "Doing it in the park, doing it after dark, oh yeah, Rock Creek Park, oh yeah, Rock Creek Park!" This was a summer anthem in D.C. 😃👍🏽❤

Yep! Nothing like the Carter Barron on a warm summer night!

YES!
@@DanielleGillmoreJohnson Right!💃💃💃 Oh how I miss that place! It fell victim to gentrification like so many DC iconic spots!😒
I'm DC, born and raised also, and my sisters used to play this jam at their house parties. You know the ones with the red lights...lol! They would let me sit at the bottom of the steps to our living room and watch them and their friends get down. I was five years old then, but I remember it like it was yesterday. #SoutheastDC

OMG, I know. I've been in Maryland for several years, but when I drive into D.C., it's like visiting a new city. Have you been down to the "new" wharf? Gentrified is an understatement. It's very different from the S.W. area that I remember.
I love this one. You should also react to their song "Walking in Rhythm."
My favorite song of all time
@@darrylmilling2747 Your Love is So Soft and Easy is a favorite
For our generation..this song was a great skating song...we hung out at the park listening to this dancing and drinking..having fun
This is 100% that JAM. Also featured in GTA: San Andreas.
More Blackyrds: "Walking in Rhythm" and "Happy Music."
This song is for the cookout playlist
Here are some other suggestions:
Operator -- Midnight Star
No Parking On The Dance Floor -- Midnight Star
Atomic Dog -- George Clinton
Dazz -- Brick
Cutie Pie -- One Way
Flash Light -- Parliament
(Not Just) Knee Deep -- Funkadelic
Yes Roberta!
I was just jamming to this tune last week! I live in the DC area, where Rock Creek Park is located, and I frequently drive Rock Creek Parkway for work. This is an oldie but goodie for sure! Shout out to my neighbors in the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia)!
Back in the day, they would close part of the roads in Rock creek park and I went rolling skating there, great tune
Donald Byrd had some great solo albums too. Many a sample in hip hop comes from them. The synth line on this was used in Ghetto Thang by De La Soul for example.
You have to listen to 'Walking in Rhythm'! Growing up, my family had the 45...good times.
This along with Slave ft Steve Arrington - Slide and Just a Touch of Love and Snap Shot, Lakeside - Fantastic Voyage and Tom Browne's - Jamaica Funk. 🔥
This group was Donald Byrd’s band. Review their song “Dominos.”
CLASSIC!!!!
Stepping into Tomorrow by Donald Byrd will give you chills.
Not to mention "Flight Time", "Where Are We Going", "Places and Spaces", "(Fallin' Like) Dominoes", "Think Twice" and "Black Byrd."
Song downloaded! It was wicked chill! Thank you! Love and prayers to you, your brother and family! 🥰💜🙏🏼
They have another jam çalled Flight time that's pretty cool
I was young
When this came out😊😊
Listen to
Dance to the drummers beat
As quiet as it's kept, the rhythm for this mega hit by The Blackbyrds was lifted from the equally popular live version of James Brown's "Give It Up And Turn It Loose" (featuring Bootsy Collins): czcams.com/video/ajJ3R1sQdxE/video.html. The Blackbyrds were from Washington, D.C., home of both (the real) Rock Creek Park and Howard University, where their mentor, jazz trumpeter Donald Byrd was a music professor. Other classics they made were: "Do It Fluid" czcams.com/video/XVRIFN01CB4/video.html, "Happy Music" czcams.com/video/ZoLx9Bxg8ko/video.html and "Walking In Rhythm" czcams.com/video/5y3CBI260Z8/video.html but "Unfinished Business" czcams.com/video/CoqOq6jwaeU/video.html and "Summer Love" czcams.com/video/cUKinK9e0_Y/video.html were just as serious and worth checking out! Have fun and thanks for such an excellent choice to review!
Oh wow 🤗. Thanks Tim. I've been asking for this song for years. I wasn't sure if anybody listened to this jam with me 💯. Thanks again.

A fusion if jazz and r&b.

Not a lot of words to this song...but sounds like there wasn't a whole lotta talking going on in Rock Creek Park after dark was there? 😆
