Going thru this diagnosis now, nails show oil spotting, dimpling & splinter hemorrhages , thick receding separation of nail. Signs of psoriasis not fungal. Also what looks like Guttate psoriasis on butt but derm says folliculitis. I studio cycle, rubbing & sweating. Chest rash diagnosis is Grovers syndrome which is triggered by sweaty cycling class. Eczema as a kid, maybe some now, 76 YO white male. Lot of stress. Thoughts?

Given your history of cycling and sweating, the buttocks area certainly sounds like folliculitis. Do you have any other signs of the Psoriasis other than the nails? You could consider a nail biopsy if necessary.

@@drhannahkopelman Hi, doc put me on oral retinoid Acitretin 10mg x1 day. About 5 weeks now, "everything" showing signs of improvement, blood testing for liver etc, ok. That's a very low dose for my 175lbs. So happy with improvements, nails growing out, this drug good for acne & psoriasis & has good residual effect.

What about psychological causes? My eczema is agitated by stress, and if I succeed in remaining calm and distracting my focus from it it tends to disappear rapidly ; it seems like it's a stress outlet habit.

As a dermatologist, I can confirm that psychological factors like stress can significantly impact eczema. Many of my patients notice that their eczema flares up during stressful times. Stress can trigger or worsen flare-ups, making the condition harder to manage. It's great to hear that you find relief by staying calm and distracting yourself; this can indeed be very beneficial. Techniques such as mindfulness, meditation, and relaxation exercises can help reduce stress levels and, in turn, alleviate eczema symptoms. Additionally, maintaining a regular skincare routine and avoiding known irritants are crucial. Addressing both the psychological and physical aspects of eczema can lead to more effective management of the condition.

Hard to give your advice without analyzing your skin. I would prescribe different options based on severity of your issue.

The condition you're describing sounds like it could be folliculitis, which is an inflammation of the hair follicles that can appear as red bumps or pimples under the skin, including in the genital area.
