I grew up listening to Joan Baez. Incredible voice, so clear you can hear every word. Saw her perform in Boston with my wife, sister and brother in law . She walked out with her guitar, sat on a stool and mesmerized the audience for 2 hours. She also is a wonderful human being who stands up for what she believes.
I was at a girl friends' sleepover and I must have been about 15 and she was 13. Someone gave her an album by Joan Baez and I up until that time never heard of her not even on the radio. Anne played her lp and I feel in love with Joan ever since. (1970)
To cover anything after its been recorded by Johnny Cash takes guts. She does him proud. Just like Johnny Cash, There will never be another Joan Baez. Two essentially American Artists.

A WONDERFULLY ARTISTIC rendering. of a truly. MARVELLOUS song by the always BRILLIANT and forever great artist, and vocalist that is Joan Baez ----- LOVE ❤️ Evelyn O'Connor
in 1969, when was a school boy of 15 years, I first saw Joan Baez in the cinema in the woodstock movie - and my only wish was to merry this beautiful wife with this never copyd voice. I found another woman, who looked like her and merried her. Now I am 58, widower and live in Thailand after my wife died with only 51 years in 2008. And remember the green green gras of our beautiful, 430 years home in Germany.
Yes but this was ,,performed mostly by male singers, i mean just listen to the lyrics mary, with lips like cherries, however she did knock it out of the park!!!😊😊😊❤❤❤
Everybody's sung the damn thing. What gets me is a little country feller in Tennessee wrote the damn song, and since it's been covered over 700 times it's the only song he ever needs to write. It's once in a lifetime that a song like that comes along. And it happens to be my favorite song of a lifetime so I hope he's made billions from his efforts. Because the people that's made millions from his efforts are world wide..... I'm wondering what a Michael Jackson or a Snoop Dogg cover would have looked like???
I have no idea how such a beautifull voice fits into such a tiny gentle woman ... simply amazing ! Singing live, nothing to be compared with todays "stars" who cannot sing a note without playback
Big voice out of tiny body - there are several, all very different. Judith Durham (of the Seekers) many think is on a different level to all others. Mireille Mathieu - very different voice. Cilla. Lulu. Timi Yuro. …
I remember how this song caught me off guard when I heard it for the first time. I was like, okay, some good folk song, performed by well-known singer, let's give it a try. Then 'I was only dreaming' line came, and I immediately felt, as in my language we say, 'a clod in a throat', an urge to cry. I remembered how much I miss places where I grew up, my childhood, my folks, everything that is left somewhere in the past. I guess understanding sad lyrics comes in a bundle with learning a foreign language.
Joan is a legend... What a performance... She's beyond excellent... She's absolutely divine... Love you Joan... Thank you for your music... You are a national treasure... PBS again? I hope .. have you heard the cover band Led Zepagain... How about Joan-again... Love you guys... Signing off... ❤😊

I melt when I see her face. My heart bleeds for the loss. She is the spitting image of my first wife. Not a night or a day eludes me of the love that was once mine. To she her is not my Judy. I was called to Vietnam and when I returned she had went to be with the Lord. I've been a bad ass ever sence I lost her love
This is a masterclass in unadulterated, honest, emotionally brilliant singing. Intuitively sings the emotion, instead of the "sound" of the emotion. Even without a world class voice, she would still be a world class singer. And she's got both. This should humble all of the vocal chord gymnasts who pass themselves off as singers on shows like The Voice and American Idol.

Right now I am sitting in my bedroom and watching this. The night is cool and a little breezy. It's a pleasant night, made more pleasant by this song.
One of the purest voices ever in popular music, and a joy to hear it. She didn't choose songs that presented much vocal challenge but then no one else had that particular bell-like quality of voice, so I guess it didn't matter. What she did always sounded perfect.

that's why she's unique. she created her own sound. she isn't like all other singers. for once there was someone as refreshing as joan baez.
Beautiful person, beautiful voice.
ich hörte Sie und Ihre Lieder vor 50 Jahren, ich darf nicht daran denken, Joan Baez und Ihre Lieder leben ewig, träumen tut weh,
When she sings this song it makes me cry, after all these years she still can bring a tear to my old eyes.

I was Dee aksidente
The old home town looks the same
As I step down from the train
And there to meet me is my Mama and Papa
Down the road I look and there runs Mary
Hair of gold and lips like cherries
It's good to touch the green, green grass of home
Yes, they'll all come to meet me, arms reaching, smiling sweetly
It's good to touch the green, green grass of home
The old house is still standing tho' the paint is cracked and dry
And there's that old oak tree that I used to play on
Down the lane I walk with my sweet Mary
Hair of gold and lips like cherries
It's good to touch the green, green grass of home
Then I awake and look around me
At four grey walls that surround me
And I realize, yes, I was only dreaming
For there's a guard and there's a sad old padre
Arm in arm, we'll walk at daybreak
Again I touch the green, green grass of home
Yes, they'll all come to see me
In the shade of that old oak tree
As they lay me 'neath the green, green grass of home
