Mod: steamcommunity.com/sharedfile... Mapper: / @elmatadordelmar Trying the Modern Conflict Mod for Gates of Hell had me feeling like I was playing a more visually stunning Combat Mission game.
for its time back then combat mission was amazingly awesome. :D what i rather moan about is that the call to arms devs delivered an awesome platform but seems to have not much mission designers and stuff, it could be one of the top RTS games imo. But hey the modsupport seems to be on top level. The community does such a good job on this.
@@ArgelTal_ I feel Call to Arms was undercooked. Like they just decided to give up 2/3 through making a great game. Like they delivered we loved it, then it never continued on and went anywhere.
The fact that the battle was unscripted really gives me old video vibes. When some of the battles you had to take control of units for most of the duration
It was initially its own game.. last minute publisher / engine rights drama led to them throwing everything under CTA and making it a 'DLC' for engine rights. It was a shock at the time.. CTA has.. much to be desired.... BUT... Ostfront pulled through IMO, solid game that stands on it's own... even if it won't run on its own ;)
@@granola661 Agreed. It's sad because it is relatively close to being something but... Tiny maps, missing animations.. overall jank.. Not the game for me. The lack of death /interim stance animations is one of the craziest design choices I've seen in a game that has first\third person.
When you get the time, perhaps you could make a Gates of Hell scripted Battle of Jadotville between the Irish UN troops and the French mercs alongside the Katangese.

*I am reposting this comment from a previous video because I didn't have any answer* : I bought Gates of Hell a year ago after seeing your videos. I'm a huge fan of your work btw. After buying the game, I really wanted to create my own custom battles like you, but I struggled a lot to understand the way it worked. I tried watching CZcams videos, but there's practically no good tutorial whatsoever. That's why I'm asking if it would be possible to have a tutorial video, kind of a behind-the-scenes look. So you could show us how to create our own cool battles on Gates of Hell. If you do that, I'll be immensely thankful.
@@DiplexHeated Wow, thank you so much, that means a lot to me. Can't wait to see your content. I don't know if it's a possibility but some tutorial video on Men Of War Assault Squad 2 could really help a lot too. By the way, the video you've just released is really cool and it's true that large-scale battles have a more realistic effect.
Makes you wonder why devs still choose to make 100m x 100m maps with LOS at 10m. It would be so good to play a modern Call to Arms with realistic distances that didn't need 200 mods to play, like game changing.
Been playing with it myself. The Mod + Gates of Hell graphics and engine is just so amazing. All the new features are so incredible, really adds to the multilayered problems modern Generals will encounter with new age warfare and all its sweet complexities.
Can we just take a second to admire that you are playing a modern strategy game that was turned into a ww2 game via dlc, and than converted back into a modern game via a mod 😂
@@bobsteve4812 this map is El Matador's on the steam workshop, you can look up his name there. Some of his maps are actually included in the mod though in Skirmish mode.
I like ground vehicles in the Cold War mod in the Men of War assault squad 2. But in the mod for this game the helicopters are definitely better made. Because in MoW mod, helicopters and planes are simply terrible, and I don’t forget about drones. All aviation and everything that flies is terrible in that mod for men of war
My stupid ass joined a US Army National Guard Infantry Brigade (light) in the winter of '87. They used to tell us that our average life expectancy on a battlefield was 4 (four) seconds 😐 Let's just say I'm glad I never saw myself looking over my M16A1 at the oncoming Warsaw Pact.
I love strategy games, i just can never find the right balance between being slow enough you can enjoy the view and sweaty micromanaging rock paper scissors like total war and COH
I definitely understand the TW part. Almost never enough time to appreciate the battles up close unless you view the replay or if it's a bridge slogfest.
You should try a game called Regiments made by MicroProse. Very good, in my opinion. They used to make the best milsim games around, also in my opinion.

Why every idiot thinks that it is WW1 ore Napoleons wars with huge waves of human solgier attaks. First you send special squads for reconnesens, then shoot artillery, after that use helicopter ore save them for later, and use tanks as a shield for bmp and deploy soldiers where it is effective.
I'm not familiar with this game. It looks great but are there formation move orders, waypoints, and/or pause-order-action gameplay? Having to click on every single object just seems a bit dated?
You said 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s right? Then why are Abrams being fielded…. They didn’t enter server with the army until the 1980s though they where in production in 79…
There needs to be a realistic Russian mod where half of the units are drunk on vodka and units start fighting each other for ammo and fuel. Chechen units that give up their position to post online videos and mercenaries leaving the battle to march towards Moscow.
Don't forget the ones pushed to the front without AIDS medication, bad backs, little training, or right out of detox. I don't know how this game works specifically but possibly a moral check any time they're told to move, unit suicides etc. I've spoken with a professor I work with who served in Russia before the fall of the Soviet Union and he said he isn't surprised by any of the numerous videos he's seen and from the stories he's told me, there's certainly more incompetence and ego driven errors that we're entirely unaware of.
Man this map really reminds me of Ukraine. Big fields and trench warfare. Could you do a frontal assault with the contemperary tactics used i Ukraine? Shaping artillery and humvee assault etc?
