  • hey guys I know its been a while, but I've been extremely busy with uni, work and moving houses so I haven't had much time to sit down and play as well as put the time into making a quality video for you guys.
    So this is Nier Automata, arguably one of the best games I have every played. I couldn't possibly talk about everything in this game, because of the sheer attention to detail the gave to all aspects of this game. So instead I decided to talk about the underlying message, Nihilism.
    Like always if you enjoyed this video please leave a like and subscribe as it would help out the channel a lot. As well as let me know your thoughts in the comment section bellow.

    We seem to have similar opinions on Cyberpunk in Nier Automata. NA is personally my favorite game of all time. The crazy part is that I did not like it at first. I stopped playing it after 3 hours for like a month. Without spoiling it, you have to beat it at least 3 times to get the full experience and storyline.

      Yeh well to get the 3 main endings you do! id recommend you to play it 2 more times, then you get ending E I think, which is the final ending.

    Great commentary, man. There is so much to mine from the depths of this game that I never tire of hearing different people's perspectives on its themes (so long as they're not just retreading old ground or, in a machine-like way, merely imitating what has gone before ;) ). One thing that I think you nailed particular well is how NA, along with other Taroverse games, never lets the player get away with being a mere spectator: the player's ethics are always brought into question, one way or another, even if it means breaking the fourth wall.

    Very much enjoying your thoughts on it and I can only agree: It´s hard talking about the game for a short span of time. You probably know that feeling when someone asks you what N:A is about and your whole mind just goes "Oh boy, where to start..."

      I'm currently writing my bachelor's thesis on Nier:automata, and I always feel encouraged by seeing others who recognize N:A as something more than a game :D

    Never had a game shoot so far above expectations and skyrocket way past my favourite game of all time. The first time I finished this was just....a moment I'll forever treasure. It truly is art. No question.

    Small correction here at 4:34 the machines didn’t kill the humans, the humans were extinct for several thousand years before the aliens ever arrived on the scene due to the events of NieR: Replicant

    I'd say we die to live - but I see life precisely as the problem here. 😉 So while you probably intended for this directionality to be the more optimistic view, I think this relates more to the core question raised by "The 100" (I haven't seen the final season yet, though): Namely "Survival - at what cost?" I don't think survival is inherently a good thing, and anyone who still does think so should probably watch "The 100".

    • @SlickGaming1
      @SlickGaming1  Před 3 lety +1

      Funny enough a friend recommended me to watch The 100! well there is nothing wrong with either side of the fence here, there both perspectives, and they both have their drawbacks and benefits for viewing them a particular way!

      Slick Gaming I think the most interesting line in "Weight of the World" in that regard is the one reading "And life has become my enemy" in the second verse... 🤔

  • @cosmicprison9819
    @cosmicprison9819 Před 3 lety +2

    I agree I could talk about this game for several days, too - but that includes all the things I could criticise about this supposed "masterpiece". Yet, it's one of the few pieces of media that I can enjoy for many hours while playing despite its many, MANY flaws.

  • @cosmicprison9819
    @cosmicprison9819 Před 3 lety +2

    I don't agree there is no purpose in life, but again, that actually makes it worse: We evolved, and thus are designed to, procreate our genes as much as possible. Like many, I see culture as a function of biology - therefore, our norms and values are based on this purpose of procreation and hence not arbitrary. But if you reject that one innate purpose of procreation (like I do), or say it's not enough of a purpose to you (even though most people then still go on and act that purpose of procreation out in life as their primary goal), then it's even harder than if there were none: Because you still have all of these innate behavioural tendencies trying to urge you back to your original purpose. We are born with what Rationality Rules called "axiomatic oughts", those being our supreme masters of pleasure and suffering, and we are unable to not serve them, but pleasure and suffering themselves again just serve the purpose of procreation.
