The stuff coming out on the dancing butterfly are jumping jacks. It’s supposed to do that. Everything you did should have been done on flat smooth concrete. Then the jumping jacks would spin, the helicopters would fly straight up, and nothing would tip over.
There should be a nail provided with the old spinner, you nail it to a post and it spins, i think those parachutes had deteriorated, that is why they didn't open.

The back off the firework was supposed to blow off because it releases spinners from the bottom when down emitting showers of sparks(nothing about it was dangerous)
I love lighting old school fireworks. They do not really get bad unless the condition is watery. Bullets from the 1920s still shoot too. As long as there's no major changes in the chemical composition, they should still be good. I have Thunderbombs from the early 80's and jumping jacks and both are 1000% better than the ones they have now at the store.
Last summer I bought a bunch of fireworks at an estate sale for 8 bux. Just in time for the 4th. They were stored in a basement and looked like they had been there a very long time. All fired except one.

I used to love Killer Bees because if you cut the bees loose a little bit they'd fly up a bit more and become like bottle rockets.
The bottom is suppose to fall out, jumping jacks come out of the bottom thats the dancing butterflies. These fireworks need a flat surface.

Agreed. Sure the grass is wet, but just the functionality of all the fireworks would be much better. Multiple fountains fell over.

My favourites from the old days were Catherine wheels, Apollo rockets, 1-2-3 bangers. Air bombs. Jumping jacks and traffic lights.
I haven’t heard of some of those..I’ll keep an eye out for them if any stores still sell them🤞
