Horror vibe: this song is based on a horror movie (free on youtube, actually, look for "Reincarnation - Japanese Horror - Eng Subs
"). After the bass solo, accompanying the "open your eyes" there's two bass chords that melt my legs every time! 😂
This is their most aggressive sounding song but there is still a heavier one above that, which is Black Hole. It's not so much the sound that's heavier, but more of the effect it has on your brain as you listen. Black Hole is a real mind scrambler.

There is a live version of Rinne, but it was a shorter, modified version of the song I believe and I don't think that the section is played where you were wondering if there was a pause added. :(

So that pose is probably gonna make playing that rhythm a bit tricker (it would for me at least) because the guitar is going to be dangling a bit the weight distribution will feel different. Having said that some poses can make playing stuff easier, so looking flashy is more of a by-product of just trying to play the part!

Thank you for this. I have been listening to B-M since I found out them out about 5 weeks ago. I am a learning guitarist, so the breakdown is wonderful for me. I learn so much from this kind of teaching. The thing I like most about the band is how much FUN they sound like they have playing together, much like The Beatles before they stopped touring and got a bit too serious (not dissing them, they seemed to lose the FUN).

Thanks David, great to know that the guitar bits are demystifying some of this stuff! You're not wrong there, they really seem like they're just having a ball making music together 🤘

I’ve learned. Palm mutes. Power chords. And ‘half-time’ on drums.

    Thank you!

Awesome! Glad those all made sense... I can go off on one from time to time and get sucked down the music theory rabbit hole lmao 🤣

You're going to have some fun analyzing the latest video release. Manners and Blackhole have been uploaded onto their channel.

The overall effect is a homage to the original 8 mm horror film of which I believe Saiki is a fan. I believe the bass drum rate is 180 bpm second only to Black Hole which is 220 bpm. I reckon this rates as one of the best rock songs ever. And they do this live as part of a 2 hour show and it is faultless. How do these tiny ladies have such stamina? Full on rock with maximum elegance.

Cheers Michael, the homage makes sense, very effective stylisation!

MISA has THE PERFECT bass tone. I mean, it is P.E.R.F.E.C.T. So satisfying in the songs and it has just enough punch to be noticeable but not overpowering as well. Crazy balance this band is able to throw together in that way. With such virtuosos on the instruments and a strong front woman the way that everything flows in and out and around each other between the various instrumental parts and the vocals is what defines the Band-Maid sound... and MISA's bass tone is, in my opinion, the foundation of that sound.

I'd probably agree with you there Brian, she tone does very much tie their whole sound together

I know you primarily focus on strings in your analysis, but during the opening I always love hearing Akane's bass drum transition from the opening steady bass beat into the bass/tom beats then into the speed bass beat. That transition is gold.

This guy knows where his bread is buttered. He had released 1,019 videos before his first Band-Maid critique on May 17th. Since then he has released 22 videos, 7 of which are Band-Maid related. Viewings of his Band-Maid videos all represent spikes in total views. A clear example of the power of Band-Maid.

They're great! They were suggested in a Veruca Salt reaction/analysis (who were also a suggestion as well!) would never have checked them out otherwise!
I run polls to see which guitar players subscribes want videos on, but with Band-Maid, there's such an active and enthusiastic fan base, it's a total non-brainer that you guys really enjoy seeing stuff on them!
The most important thing for me though, is that I enjoy listening to them, if I didn't I couldn't take the time and effort to put these together 🤘
