If this was 2015, this was just a few short months before Gunnar's death. The 1974 Texas Chainsaw Massacre still gets to me to this day. He will always be the best "Leatherface." RIP It's always fun to hear stories from behind the scenes.
Yeah it’s a shame that Gunnar, Marilyn and a few others from the original have passed.. they were in a legendary movie that will never be duplicated RIP
@@cherryontop3243 Brinyarski got really anal about the way Hansen openly criticized his performance as Leatherface, such as poking fun at the way he slammed the steel door.
Love the point Gunnar made about the sound design. It's always been a big reason why the movie creeps me out. There's always appropriate silence (like the chase through the woods) and whenever there is music, you can hardly call it music at all. It's just ominous, industrial noise. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre will always stand out to me as the most experimental, psychological, and artistic horror film maybe of all time
It's nice hearing Gunnar talk about how he was cast and how the movie was made. Though he passed away, it's nice hearing him, thanks Gunnar for telling us about your experience. He looks like a nice man
Rarely can pure magic be made and the original Texas Chainsaw was lightning in a bottle, this is one of the most unusual films ever made and so real, no sequels should have ever been made, it should have been left as a stand alone classic!
Totaly agree. Leatherface is neither a Marvel Comics character nor a self-assertive psychopath serial killer. The original expression of 1974 is pure and only.
Yes. You hit the nail on the head (or the body on the head, lol.) Absolutely. The “sequels” were all made many, many years later and look and sound nothing aesthetically like the original. I can appreciate certain elements of the sequels, but they honestly have virtually no aesthetic and artistic relationship with the original 70s film.
Of all the leather faces, this is the best of all and my favorite. I could listen to gunnar hansen all the time and not get bored. I love his anecdotes, it hurts that he is no longer with us, this wise and great actor. but above all humble with a great heart
I was there at that Horrorcon and I am going again this year, Gunnar Hansen was such an amazing guy to meet and so friendly and he will be missed RIP Gunnar Hansen.
R.I.P Gunnar Hunsen! The only true Leatherface that became a legend only because the other killer was drunk, this man outdid himself! Especially that he used a real-working chainsaw, and he never used one before!
He was such a dear, educated and talented gentleman. I wish he had been given a chance to act in something after CHAINSAW other than crappy direct to video movies. It was always a pleasure to speak with him. R. I. P Gunnar
Gunner Hansen is a very nice man. You would never know when he played the psychopath leatherface however he did such a great job at it. Leatherface had to be one of the best movie villians of all time
This reminds me of WWE's Glenn "Kane" Jacobs. A very nice and intelligent man but played one of the most demonic characters in WWE as well as a horror movie character Jacob Goodnight.
i love this actor i didn't now that he passed away since this year 2017 i never seen texas chainsaw massacre only this year i was very very sad to hear that
That door slamming scene was perfect. Gunnar saying he was so excited at the time is exactly how Leatherface would have felt if actually happening. And that "doom" sound after the slamming of the door i have always noticed and love it. Amazing scene
Agree with most comments. Gunnar was the only 'leatherface'. Plus I actually got to meet him once, so he is kind of my claim to meeting someone famous. RIP to the best X
Thanks for posting! Fortunately this event was filmed since he died of cancer 4 months later on November 7th 2015 (his close friend Marilyn Burns died the year before on August 5th 2014).
Gunnar Hansen was the first, and the BEST Leather face! The untalented bodybuilder, who played the part in one of the sequels (not memorable enough to name specifically) was the worst. The way Gunnar slammed that steel door at the first kill scene of Kirk, could not have been done any better by anyone!
I'm so happy Gunnar wasn't in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, that movie is horrible and would have greatly denigrated the excellent job he did on the original movie with Leatherface. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre doesn't need a sequel and he knew it. Its sad that this great actor is no longer with us, R.I.P.
Dear Gunnar Hansen, it's been five years since you died, and I wanted to say that you did a really good job playing leatherface 46 years. You died in your 60s, you were 2 times close to be in your 70s. This is so depressing I just wish I could've met you nowadays but too late. And good job with that gunnar hansen limited edition signature series mask, I could've gotten that but it was 8 years and it was made only 74 masks so definitely too late. You have a lot of great interviews and talking about how you make the movie. Also I like it when you made a book about it called chainsaw confidential. What a sweet, lovely, smart, patient, and and talented man you are. R.I.P Sweet man. And were gonna kick Andrew's ass who said boo hoo to you.
The best thing about Gunnar is that he gave Leatherface a true identity. When I saw the film for the first time I was nine and I felt that he was just a little kid playing around with his beloved human parts and that he was being used by his family to commit those atrocities. He could’ve just done the usual thing that a stunt does when they play the bad guy in a slasher film, but he went further and created something very special.
He literally made the movie with what he is explaining, the best parts he did on his own, maybe more so accidentally but he clearly was fed up with making the movie. RIP man
The original scared the absolute crap out of me. I tried to watch it several times but could never get through it. It absolutely terrified me. A true horror film… the pacing & rawness is unmatched.
Crowd talking in the background and people getting up and walking all throughout the interview. It seems that the interview was a very minor occurrence at Horrorcon.

I know he underplays the script a bit in this interview but just everything he does as Leatherface, his mannerisms, his reactions and movements all come together to create an obscure but renowned character.
That is key the slamming of the door in the sound of whatever score that was does get you. Quentin Tarantino said the Texas chainsaw massacre is a perfect movie from beginning to end and I agree
Cool. Got a little distracted, though, from the quiet din of folks CONSTANTLY yakking in the back. Added a slight shopping mall effect that wasn't really ideal. Kudos to GH, who looked like he was looking out at the chattering ninnies, but keeping cool and just simply relating what he had to say. For the last couple of minutes,, I sure hope that wasn't open-mouthed eating (from, the filmer?) in the background. Glad GH went into the whole low-register-note-accentuating-slamming-of-door-carrying-into-gal-on-swings score....always appreciated that, as well as (not mentioned but also cool), immediately after that door slam, the camera tracks under the bench, as the house looms ominously before TM and us. I think my fave shot is either Leatherface suddenly saying hi out of the bushes in the dark, or a bound-to-chair Sally's POV of the gang, at the table, especially a be-wigged Leatherface sidling all fancy-like, SLOWLY, towards us. Still wish he ditched the apron.
In a 1988 interview he said UNFORTUNATELY I will be remembered as Leatherface! WTF Gunnar! Actors can be such a pain in the ass. YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN PROUD OF THAT STATUS! and I overheard him say in 1993 at Texas First Fangoria Convention that it was somewhat of an inconvience being there. Shame on you Gunnar!
