    Very nice. I also watched your build videos. I rode a mostly stock 78 SR500 as my daily transportation in Vancouver between 91 and 2000. I miss that bike.So reliable and confidence inspiring.

    So many motorcycle videos play music when they're riding the bike. I prefer to hear the motor. Thanks for a well-done video.

    What a beauty. What's even nice is you're not terribly sprawled out across the tank, rather up-right position. Legs may be a little cramped, but that's always the case for somebody who enjoys rear sets. Good stuff, love the outcome!

    Smart clean and tidy, very nice bike, the exhaust probably sounds better in the flesh than on video as it,s a pain to catch the sound properly, building an "82" 750 Virago at the moment, sorry but will be pinching a couple of your ideas for it, always enjoy watching your build video,s, regards Doc Cox.

    When I had my SR, it came with some great finned engine covers, aftermarket maybe, but made the engine look boss.Never seen any ever again.Imported from Japan.Those guys spend mega bucks on custom parts.I liked the SR, but they are a rattler, too much vibration for not a lot of power. Seriously don't know why peeps spend so much on them.A Honda CX650 ( if you can find one ) totally blows the SR to the weeds in terms of style, sound, torque.You just can't beat a cafe racer that shakes from side to side while at idle at a set of lights.Go the CX, do the ton.

    Heya, what carb did you guys use on this build (also jet config, if you remember)? And did I hear correctly that you are using a stock header? I'm new to modding and am trying to coax a bit more out of a rockin 78 sr500 i picked up down your way (I'm up in SB). Thanks!

    She's a beaut. Looks like mine is starting to develop a click at the cylinder head area. I'm quite sure the rockers are worn on account of there not being sufficient oil supply to the area. Wondering where you got the double head oiler, or did you make it? Cheers!

    • @brianridgley940
      @brianridgley940 Před 9 lety +1

      YuTubeWeTube I bought mine ebay, they have a few models available and they all do the same thing but I purchased one that has 1 line attached at the middle of a mount so that way both rockers are hypothetically getting equal amounts of oil.
      I personally would not spend more than $100 on one.
      have you heard of the grub screw fix for the sr500? I have that on the to do list, you might want to check it out.

    • @YuTubeWeTube
      @YuTubeWeTube Před 9 lety +1

      Brian Ridgley Cool cheers. Yeah I've since bought one on eBay. Seems to work well.
      Haven't managed to fix the clicking though. I think I read on the SR forum a while ago that Yamaha started putting in their own screws in post '84 models to fix the issue (mine is an '88). Took the engine out/rocker head cover off and had a look a couple of weeks ago and there they were. So I guess that the loose rocker axis/spindles aren't the issue. Clicking is a little worse since I put it back together haha. Mustn't have adjusted the valve clearances properly. First time doing all this stuff. I'll have to take it to the mechanics to see if he can sort it out.

    • @brianridgley940
      @brianridgley940 Před 9 lety +1

      YuTubeWeTube
      the only other thing I can think of is the timing chain, but I am almost positive that the clicking is the valves. I read somewhere (if its on the internet it must be true) that one gentleman got 84,000 miles out of his engine before it failed him.
      I am on the fence about going for a witch hunt to make the engine run quieter but Im not terribly concerned about it, if it gets worse then I would start to worry about it.

      I have a 1978 SR500 that had 64,000ks on it when I got it seven years ago I think it had been rebuilt not long before I bought it as it came with its original used piston in a Wiseco box and it's old timing chain and a few other used parts in a box and it's fitted with the same top end oil line fitted as the bike in this video, since than I've done another 80,000ks without any real engine problems, it's starting to get a bit of a top end rattle now and I'll rip it apart in the near future and see what the problem is
      I've heard of the grub screw thing you mentioned and I've bought a head from a SR400 and I will probably fit the rocker box from that one it has the two screws from factory
      The heads are supposed the be basically the same except for the camshaft apparently they won't run right if you mix the 400 and 500 cams to the wrong motor

      My cafe advice would be "don't"
      I saw a Japanese owner comment on a video the other day and he was saying what a work of art they are standard and I agree
      Anyway to each his own, this one in this video looks good
      If I had one suggestion for your racer it would be to maintain adequate rear suspension travel
      A young mate had a Bobber with short hard shocks and just about no rear suspension travel and it was a pig to ride and a pain in the arse and back
      I'll see if I can find a link to one that I think looks the part
