I make Hellboy’s Samaritan gun (hand cannon?). This is not just a big hunk of foam, it’s mostly made from styrene plastic, it breaks open, and the cylinder can spin!

This was totally next level. I didn't expect this level of detail from this video. Really leagues above the others.
yes the exposed casings would be very bad, the casings are for holding the powder charge, but without the cylinder to reinforce the casing you would get a rather spectacular metal failure, brass is very soft, when the charge is ignited it expands the brass to seal the end of the chamber, which is why you have to resize it when reloading

NERF missed out on a huge opportunity by not making a good samaritan gun...(fyi, yes i know the maverick is similar...not close enough for me though)
The Hammershot is closer than the maverick however the front loading is a bit inaccurate.
have you tried modifying the shell to make it more like the prop?
