Hi this is super useful video !!! how about timetable for the train from Kalambaka to Athen.
Hi @MelowChris73737 , we were very saddened to hear about that tragedy. It does make you think twice about using the rail services in Greece. We hope the experience is safer now and lessons have been learned.
The freight train was illegally transporting xylene which caused the massive fireball. The government claims there was no xylene and that the explosion was caused by fluids from the surviving engine. The wagons with the xylene were flattened. The company claims there were 13 wagons but the photos show 14. All the wreckage and wagons were immediately removed from the scene of the collision, they dug up, dumped the soil and poured asphalt to eliminate the tracks. Xylene is used to adulterate fuel and to make ammunition. Apparently there is a mafia behind it that controls the government.@@BucketListTravellers
We hadn't heard this information previously, thanks for sharing. It was such a terrible tragedy.
Greece is my favorite country from Europe,i always liked its flag and its history, but by watching your videos J&J, i realized that Greece is much more beautiful and interesting than i knew, i hope to go there someday...
Hey Jango! Yeah, most people (ourselves included) associate Greece with the ruins in Athens and the Greek Islands, however there is a lot more to the country. We only scratched the surface as well and would love to explore it in more detail one day.
Much love from Greece
Greece is beautiful as a country but the trains are not actually safe and to find out the tempi crash had to happen
Thank you for the information- Im traveling to Greece and planning a trip to Meteora by train.
You're welcome! It is an easy way to get to Meteora, especially if you are travelling from Athens.
Very informative and thank you .
You’re welcome, thanks for watching. 😃
very helpful information
Glad to hear that you found it helpful Chris!😀
Cool train ride
We love travelling by train, so comfy and it is nice seeing the world pass you by!
Great videos guys, nice to a video done by aussies for a change.
Hi Melbourne shorts, welcome to our channel! Glad to hear you liked this video. 😀
Very helpful video!
Did you needed to go far when changing platforms at Palaeofarsalos to catch the train to Athens? Planning a trip to Kalambaka too but slightly concerned by the short amount of time for transfer when going back to Athens
Hi Rustie, thanks for watching. No it wasn't far at all, you just had to walk 2min down some stairs and onto the other platform. You may be aware that the Greece rail network is currently down due to the recent national train disaster and protests near Larissa. We aren't sure when the network will be operational again, so it is worth looking into buses instead. The bus network is also extensive.
@@BucketListTravellers even if the rail network is operational we will never be sure if it's safe to use
It will take a lot of time for people to trust the system again, that is for sure.
@@BucketListTravellers they should never trust it again
You needed to take the new high speed train!
Added to the bucket list for next time!
Nice!
Quite nice, but how did you pronounce Thessaloniki? Every single time, it sounded like you were saying Thessa-N-o-L-iki, thus the L and N interchanged. Please do work on it .)
Ahhh, I you are right Michael. Thanks for clarifying, we hate it when we stuff up the names of places. Thanks for watching.
Hi how're you doing?... I want to know if train will move from greece to germany, italy and france paris
Hi Muhanmmad, we believe that it is normally possible to travel to Germany from Greece via train. However we are not sure whether they are running since the train disaster earlier this year.
@@BucketListTravellers thanks
Is it mandatory to mask these days in Greece?
Hi Joshua, we were travelling through Greece in June 2022 and at that time, it was mandatory to wear masks on public transport. According to the Greece arrivals website it is still required on local public transport, see here: travel.gov.gr/#/
@@BucketListTravellers Thank you for the update! I didn't realise that it was still required on local public transport!
We have not trains in Greece yet!!!!!! We have good motorways but our trains are 60 years back from rest Europe!!!!!
Our train experience was pleasant, but agree with you that other countries in Europe do a better job.
It’s Greece not Grace 😅
😳 whoops! Thanks for watching Joe.😁
This video didnt aged well....
Yeah, we were shocked about the news of the crash. We looked up the location of the crash to see if it was along our route, but it was further north. Nevertheless it is horrifying to think that accidents like this can happen in Greece and our thoughts go out to the families who were affected.
@@BucketListTravellers there's a strike happening, it's currently 4 days
How to travel Greece by train?
Don't.
We were horrified when we found out about the systematic safety issues that led to this horrific accident. It will take a lot of time for the network to repair its reputation.
Is this video sponsored by the criminal TRENOSE?
TRENOSE have a lot to answer for and we hope that the responsible parties will be brought to justice and lessons learnt for a safer network moving forwards.
sorry but you guys should take the video down in memory of the dead from the accident. There is nothing nice to celebrate about trains in Greece right now.
Hi GT the PES Professor, we understand your concerns and agree that there is nothing to celebrate about trains in Greece right now. It is a service that many people, local and foreign, rely on and we hope that the lessons learnt will result in a safer and stronger service into the future.
An assessment of the trains and very little about travelling the country by train. BORING.
Hi Chris, thanks for the feedback. You've given us the idea of making a companion video to this which would be focused more on the places we visit using the train. Is that what you would find more interesting? If there is anything specific that you would like to see let us know.
