Sick to my stomach. Just received notice that we have less than 2 hours to retrieve any personal material from our property. Our family has spent the last 30 years on that mountain, blood sweat and tears building our heaven on earth and now we are within a few hundred yards of losing it all. We were able to make one trip up the canyon to retrieve side by sides, 4 wheelers and a handful of odd and ends, tools, trailers, “memories” etc. but it feels like we are losing everything. To watch the flames inch closer and closer, knowing that there’s nothing we or the Wildland FF’s can do to save or protect the multiple structures, cabins, and buildings that we’ve invested every spare penny into is a shame. Mother Nature is beautiful, this fire is a beast! I don’t know how we will ever financially recover from this. Not being able to insure the property for situations like this has always been an unfortunate event. We’ve tried countless times to insure our property, but due to the location it wasn’t possible. This is heart breaking. I (we) feel like we are losing a part of our family. This was where our family spent countless weeks, months and various adventures at. To watch it go up in flames wrecks me to my core…. I apologize for rambling, but needed to release some emotion and this happened to be the channel I chose to do so.
