  • The brake lines are looking pretty rusty and the brakes hoses are past their golden years, so we will give the brake system a future-proofing by replacing both hoses and one of the front brake lines. NiCopp brake line makes the job much easier than traditional steel brake line tubing.
    Timeline of filming: November 1st, 2018 - November 2nd, 2018
    Song List (Order of First Appearance):

    And there I was shaking, shivering from head to toe...Being addicted to the Fuzzy isn't easy! The dice is thrown, you watch and hope for a favorable outcome, one never knows what you'll get. You wait breathlessly, then it happens the Fuzzy reveals itself. You watch as the vid plays and the shivering in your body slowly resides. You've had your "Fix' for the week, but you know it isn't enough! You know it just won't last! But you're okay for now. The Dice, yes the Dice, what will they show next time their thrown? How long until the body Shakes begin again? How long until the next episode? Can you wait, can you endure this last time seemed to take forever. But thats the addiction talking. No, the Fuzzy isn't an easy life but it's all you've got! One vid every other week isn't enough. We the victims of the Fuzzy...we endure, we wait, even pray! Do the Fuzzy Dice God care for us? We wonder sometimes, for all that'll get us. Still it's better than nothing! We've got our "Fix" for now. Maybe that's all we get. But maybe, just maybe someday we'll start getting a vid week. That'll be nice, if that day ever comes.

    Your an amazing guy. I have not watch any other channel where the host talks non-stop for the entire segment. Chats are interesting, but you could let the wrenches do some of the talking. Sometimes a picture or a wrench doing its job is worth a thousand words. A thorough power washing of the car would certainly make it more attractive. Am surprised to still see cob webs and grass hanging off the chassis. Engine bay is could use a little sprucing up. I enjoy the vids, jokes and humourous captions. Thank you for taking the time to record, edit and post vids.

    @TheBrokenLife Před 5 lety +1

    You weren't kidding about the similarities in our videos at the moment... It's like we're doing the same pain in the ass jobs, just on different cars and states away. LOL.
    I've also never seen GM use a bubble flare. That's pretty crazy!
    edit: Also... I may have missed it, but it's generally a good idea to apply some grease to the back of the pads to keep them nice and quiet (and keep them from sticking to the caliper piston). It will also make them a lot easier to remove next time.... Not sure you greased the spindle (or caliper... hard to tell which way they are and which side on this car)-to-pad interface either...?

    • @FuzzyDiceProjects
      @FuzzyDiceProjects  Před 5 lety +1

      I always used to grease the pads, but I've kind of been experimenting with not doing it and trying to tell if there is any difference. Haven't noticed anything yet, but it wouldn't hurt to do that of course.
      And this was filmed in the beginning of November lol, I am a little behind on all of this editing. Do still need to replace the rear brake/fuel lines and hoping to do that soon-ish, though.

    • @TheBrokenLife
      @TheBrokenLife Před 5 lety

      @@FuzzyDiceProjects At least in regard to the pad-to-caliper/spindle interface, you really do need to grease those to hopefully slow the wear of the sliding surfaces. My TJ (and all of the others of its lineage) are famous for wearing the spindles out from the pads rubbing them off. I'd bet if you look at your buddy's XJ (Shawn...? If he still owns it) their likely worn plumb out.. New ones are $350/ea. Hard to know F-bodies would have the same issue, but why chance it?
      I hear ya man... It's not so much the filming and wrenching, but as I've learned, editing takes an eternity. Especially with the snazzy stuff you're doing these days. Your production quality just keeps getting better and better! Nice work!

  • @MidnightMechanic
    @MidnightMechanic Před 5 lety

    The Right Stuff still makes OE style, pre bent and guard sleeved steel brake lines for 3rd gen F bodies, including stainless steel upgrades. For about the same money, including rental of a bending and flaring tool kit, you can get yourself both left and right side brake lines. There is absolutely zero point in bending your own brake lines for these F body cars, and I trust OE production well over and above bending and flaring my own lines. It's a godsend that production brake lines are still available for cars this old, even most modern cars will have you bending and flaring your own brake lines, which is an easy invitation for leaks if the flaring's not done perfectly right.

    • @TheBrokenLife
      @TheBrokenLife Před 5 lety

      It's entirely possible that he's not in on the trick of how to do it, but he explained in the video that replacing the line with a pre-formed one was impossible with the engine in the car. Do the replacements come in multiple pieces or something?

    • @FuzzyDiceProjects
      @FuzzyDiceProjects  Před 5 lety

      I had looked into those, but there is a fairly significant price difference between that and bending custom lines. I'm also sure it's possible, but it seems like it would be very difficult to install some of them like that passenger side front brake line without removing (or at least lifting) the engine. You'd end up bending them to make them fit anyway. Pre-made stainless brake lines are awesome though, and durable enough to survive pretty much anything and for pretty much forever, and it's great that the aftermarket has made that an option!

    How much cost/work would it be to make the car 100% rust free with rust protection?

    • @FuzzyDiceProjects
      @FuzzyDiceProjects  Před 5 lety +3

      For 100% it would require the entire car to be disassembled, down to pinch welds on body panels being separated and I don't even want to imagine that level of work. For 95%, large parts would have to come out and then the rusty areas ground down, primed, repainted, and undercoated. Still an incredible amount of work, I don't know how to estimate that. Months, most likely. What I will be doing is taking care of the currently problematic rust on structural parts, that is what is really a threat to the car. Things like the surface rust on the air cleaner housing isn't really a concern right now.

    • @TheBrokenLife
      @TheBrokenLife Před 5 lety

      ...just to toss it out there, on my '91 Mustang that had very light underbody rust just starting at the seams of the pinch welds and such, it took me about 2-3 weeks of free time to grind out all of the seams, rough the factory paint, clean it, prime it, and paint it. At that time, the exhaust and drive shaft were already out for other work, thus making it easier, and I still haven't gotten back to it to drop the gas tank and do from behind the rear axle to the rear bumper. Cost was about $300 by the time you add up all of the cleaners and rattle bombs and everything.
      That was on a car that was driven in ONE winter (and I believe it), had 79,000 miles at 16 years old, and was always garaged.
      So... I'm saying on an old car that was in really nice shape already, doing a small portion of that work, took about a month of free time if you factor in taking the stuff off and putting it back on.
      Actual vehicle restoration isn't for the faint of heart or shallow of pockets. You're far ahead of the game to just buy a nicer car to begin with if having a restored jewel is your final goal.

    Ooooo, shoulda made a new line for the drivers. Steel lines rust on the inside too so always best to replace when you have the chance.
    Nice job though :)

    • @TheBrokenLife
      @TheBrokenLife Před 5 lety

      There's stuff running around from the 50s with the original brake lines on it. The "rusting on the inside" is just marketing wank from places like Jiffy Lube trying to get you to buy a brake fluid flush (which is a good idea from time to time, but not for that reason).

    • @1959VWBeetle
      @1959VWBeetle Před 5 lety

      @@TheBrokenLife I've had it on a few of my old cars and the fact that the fluid is hydroscopic and will absorb moisture over time It's a possibility.
      Biggest reason really is steel rusts and Kunifer does not so I just prefer to have brake lines I never have to look at again :)

    • @TheBrokenLife
      @TheBrokenLife Před 5 lety

      @@1959VWBeetle I've never seen a line rust from the inside out. I do have a large collection of SUPER rusty, on the outside, lines that I can cut open, examine, and post a video of if you'd like.

    • @1959VWBeetle
      @1959VWBeetle Před 5 lety

      @@TheBrokenLife Well I did find this on a good few of my UK cars. Maybe the steel line used was of lesser quality, who knows but it was certainly the case.
      Either way I think using kunifer is just the smart move for maintenance free driving. I hate having to do a job twice so if there's a true fit and forget option that don't break the bank then I'm all game :)

    • @TheBrokenLife
      @TheBrokenLife Před 5 lety +1

      @@1959VWBeetle That's entirely possible. No telling what sort of steel your cars may have had vs. mine. My stuff all dies from the outside in, and lately, in spectacular fashion.
      No argument at all about the kunifer/nicop line. It's absolutely the best material to use without a doubt. I also like to use stainless flare nuts to make sure I never have to worry about getting them released from their mating component. Good materials only seem expensive if you haven't spent hours cursing and bleeding trying to get bad ones apart later.
