Sadly Charley Pride passed away yesterday, Saturday, December 12, 2020 in Dallas, Texas of complications from Covid-19 at age 86
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to The Pride Scholarship at Jesuit College Preparatory School, St. Philips School and Community Center, The Food Bank, or the charity of your choice.

Charley Pride is still touring and filling arenas and concert halls around the world even though he is well into his 80's. I wonder if any of todays flash-in-the-pan hit makers will ever be able to do that. I doubt it. This man is incredible.

No one could replace this man. Such a gentleman and appresitive of what he has. He sounds the same on stage as he does in recordings.

This past summer I waited till my dad woke up then me and him would listen too traditional country and around 5am this song would always come on. When ever i listen to this song I remember the good times me and my dad had at 5am ever day in the summer.

I’m born and raised Baltimore city and I loved it.. I can’t believe I’ve only heard this song today… why don’t the bars play this ever.. I mean if I’m in Alabama I bet every bar I go into would play sweet home Alabama at least once … how have I not heard this

Please don't blame Alabama as a State or those that inhabit the state. Nor those in MD. It's a story. Like all great county songs. You can substite states, cities etc and come up with the same answer. We're all the same.
Genuinely feel so sad Charlie Pride has died. He had a wonderful voice, sang wonderful songs that were like short stories. I will never like another country singer as much as I will always like him xxx

I had that album. In about 1969 i think. Listened to it every night before going to sleep. Had a stack of lp's on the turntable. Don't know what wore them out the most. The needle running through or being dropped from the stack at the top. 15 yo. Top of the world. What a time to be alive except for politicians getting rich off sending young men and women off to vietnam. Moon landing hoax or not. So many other good memories

The best version by far, produced by Cowboy Jack Clement was by the guy who wrote it with Harlan Howard - Tompall Glaser. Takes a minute extra as they don't rush it looking for radio play. A real performance worth finding.

When ever Charlie’s songs would play, she’d always exclaim, “Charlie Pride is the most handsome man I’ve ever seen”... but for some reason, she’d always see fit to add, “for a black man” 😳 bless her soul, she meant well. 😇
