La means a Pass in Tibetan language is called Jot in Himachal Pradesh - like Chamba Jot , Rohtang Jot .Chamba Jot connects the beautiful valleys - one one side Kangra through the Chowari valley - Beas river basin and on the other the Chamba valley through Khajjiar - Ravi river basin

Kangra Valley including Chamba Jot and hills of Dalhousie are situated in an area called Bari Doab - meaning land between Rivers Beas and Ravi.Area between River Beas and River Sutlej is called Bist Doab

When the British also annexed Kashmir after defeating the Sikhs in the First Anglo Sikh War in 1845-1846 the British made River Ravi as the demarcation between Jammu and Kashmir and British Punjab.But one notable exception was made in the case of the town of Chamba . Chamba town with the Maharaja's Palace / the famous Chaugan is on the Right Bank side of River Ravi

In 1846 , British sold the entire Kashmir to Maharaja Gulab Singh for 75 lakh Nanakshahi Rupees . Maybe this was worked out as the cost of the war or calculated @ Re.1 per Kashmiri citizen.------------------Pakistan wrongly argues that had Gurdaspur district , including Pathankot gone to Pakistan then India would have had no connectivity to Jammu and Kashmir. India would have got that road link via Chamba Princely State .
