My vote is for lumping in various genres into one video. While I enjoy genre specific ones, I think this limits your viewership in that genres others aren’t into or familiar with may just skip watching. At least with a mixed bag there’s something for everyone, an unexplored genre may pique a person’s interest, and you get to flex your diverse (and excellent) tastes.
I’m excited you have Black Randy & The Metrosquad and 100 Flowers added to your collection; the former may take a few listens to really appreciate how awesome the album is as a whole.
Crass? Love them! They’re a good intro into early Anarcho-Punk. My favorite song sung by Eve Libertine is ‘Shaved Women’ off of “Stations Of The Crass”.
All in all, excellent additions I’m stoked to see you have acquired. Must thanks and love to those sending you those wonderful gifts.
P.S. There is only one band I’ve been exposed to (and LOVE) that has been unabashedly influenced by Minutemen (also by Wire, Gang Of Four and The Jam) and that is Giant Haystacks. You should check them out. They’re somewhat obscure enough to find their LPs on the cheap, but I noticed that’s changing slightly due to the success of members latest band Neutrals. Still, it’s not going to break the bank account.

    • @TheOmahaIntrovert
      @TheOmahaIntrovert  Před rokem

Greetings! Thanks for sharing your vote. It helps me out. Yeah, seems the general consensus is that you all want to see a mix of different albums/music styles combined in one video, which is totally fine!
Crass may not be for everyone, but I find them irresistible in a way! Eve Libertine is so very cool!
I have not heard of Giant Haystacks, so I'm quite curious to give them a listen! Thank you for the recommendation! Happy holidays!

Hey Hanna, I really like the way you open up with genres I've never explored myself. I tend to dismiss things very quickly without giving them a chance, and hearing your enthusiasm encourages me to be less grumpy and be open to more listening pleasure. So I hope you keep doing general-type videos. But I'm sure you'll continue to do more specialised videos, which I look forward to. Your enthusiasm and good taste are infectious and surprising. Classics here I thought I'd never hear mentioned again are the Stiff Little Fingers and Dead Kennedy's albums. Ancient history, yet still vital.

I have distinct memories of seeing the Minutemen around the summer '85 at Bflo State College outside and it was chaotic and amazing - they were blazing through one great song after another w/ Hurley's hair flying around, Mike Watt anchoring it down and d. Boon front center. One of my top 5 concerts for sure.

Punk and hXc are my most favorite genres. It’s mostly what I discuss on my channel. 1990s gangsta rap/hip hop too.
I am so happy to see someone getting into it and enjoying classic records for the first time. Jack Grisham is a genius. I’m hoping to see TSOL next year.
New York Hardcore (NYHC) is its own animal. Agnostic Front, Sick Of It All, Cro-Mags, and many others. Very raw but they all respect the roots of punk rock.

As far as TSOL goes- there are a couple of other albums and eps worth checking out. There was a self-titled EP that came out before 'Dance with Me' and it is worth getting for sure. It's more straight ahead hardcore with a little bit less of the goth vibes. The 'Weathered Statues' ep came out after Dance with Me and it's very experimental and interesting especially the track, 'Thoughts of Yesterday.' Then, they got a keyboard player and put out a post punky album called 'Beneath the Shadows' also worth checking out. After that, Jack and the drummer left the band and they took a decided turn for the worse, although the album 'Change Today?' has some interesting moments like the track, 'Flowers by the Door.' That maybe more than you ever wanted to know about them. Haha

I found yours, and I've been a follower ever since. These genre vids are a good way to catch the attention of new fans. Hope all's well!

Happy Holidays Hanna! My top ten records have always been dynamic. Titles rise, titles fall, some make repeat appearances, and for a variety of reasons a few once fallen will forever struggle to regain "status". I think Double Nickels on the Dime is the greatest American indie-punk record. It and Marquee Moon are the "greatest punk rock records that some folks say aren't really punk". Which of course, automatically puts both among the greatest punk records, period. I enjoy both your record haul videos and your genre overviews but if I had to pick one I'd choose your genre overviews. I like the knowledge you drop and the revelations of artists previously unknown to me. DKs and SLF rule! Keep rockin'!

Greetings and happy holidays, Peter! Very worthy to have Double Nickels take the spot for greatest American indie-punk record, yes! I'm glad you are liking my genre overview videos. It seems the general consensus from what I'm gathering, however, is that the bulk of my audience wants to see everything lumped together. I'm glad I asked the question. An interesting list and I don't know if Television-Marquee Moon (1977) is a rock, punk rock, post-punk, art punk, garage rock or protopunk album, but I love it! Cool to see your new additions. I was a teen during that era of late 70's - early 80's. It was a great time to grow up listening to the latest music. That Black Flag ''Damaged' album you have (their best IMHO) is one of my absolute favorite punk albums. It is very aggressive but just classic. It reminds me of that time of absolute rebellion against the system. My top favorite punk album from that era is Circle Jerks 'Group Sex'. The songs are really short, but to me, it is the definition of punk. Another one of my favorites are Surf Punks 'My Beach' (their best one). It reminds me of the surf scene in Southern California at that time and I really like most of the songs on the record. The bass playing is pretty good.

Cheers Hannah always a delight seeing you and your ever growing collection, something I look forward to every week👍. You made a good choice with stiff little fingers and flammable material, they're early discography is spectacular. And if you dig 999 I suggest you look for their album called concrete another terrific album from them that you don't want to pass up

It's amazing that you have such a huge collection and know so much music already, yet still get to hear DK for the first time -- I envy you! Nice pick with the Crass album. I first heard them when my friend Kristen Pfaff brought them to play on my punk radio show 32 yrs ago, gave me quite a flashback!

Hey Hanna! Intrigued by your description of Saccharine Trust. Used to order stuff from SST back in the late 80s but had never heard anything about Saccharine Trust and always assumed they would be too hardcore for my taste, but I like weird jazzy stuff.
I like watching your videos because I am interested in the same genres you seem to like but you know way more than I do so I always learn something from you. Can't really offer any suggestions other than keep doing what you enjoy doing.
BTW, Pop Culture Graveyard is taking a break, possibly for good. Too bad. I loved his channel.
    🤘✌️ from Minneapolis!

Hi! Ah, Minneapolis! I'd love to go digging up there! Used to go to the Down in the Valley chain in the suburbs in the early 2010s! What did you think of Saccharine Trust? Hope you dug what you heard by them!
I appreciate the kind words on my channel, too. Knowing that I've introduced you to some bands you hadn't heard of before means I"m doing an alright job! Oh man, that sucks that Hollis may not be back. Really love his humor. Cheers!

Nice to see the second Television album get some appreciation. I often see it dismissed on message boards. I get people would be disappointed by less emphasis on guitar but I think most of the songs are excellent.

Yeah, people should spend some more time with Television's Adventure instead of dismissing it! I appreciate the comment!

I feel the same way. I've heard many people say things to the effect of "Get MM and don't bother with Adventure," but I think it's a great record. MM has all the really intense songs on side one, and then side two mellows out a bit, and I find Adventure kind of carries on from there. I think people who avoid it are really missing out.

That's a solid record, I bought the deluxe reissue of that or remaster on CD a few years back, was well worth it. It's not as "virtuosic" as the first album, but the songs
are all really good. More in the pop direction, or whatever. "Glory" is a total power pop masterpiece.

Hey Hanna! You asked for input as to what genres you feature. I like every every video you produce regardless o' topic. Your appreciation 'n knowledge o' everything you cover is flawless. I remember a time once upon a time when your videos included 60's rarities 'n psychedelic masterpieces. I've also noticed that these have been absent from your videos for quite some time now. How 'bout some love for these forgotten jewels which you obviously also admire 'n enjoy?

Hi John! Thanks as always for stopping by! I appreciate your loyalty to my channel after all these years! As far as 60s...yes, I featured lots earlier on. Those gems are all still nestled in my collection. Don't forget that I just showed a Tommy James & the Shondells LP in my last video! 😉 I still love my 60s pop and psych and just listened to Hooligans from the Who today, which is one of my favorite comps if I'm gonna go with a comp! Happy holidays!

Hello Hannah, How are you? Happy New Year by the way & I hope your Christmas was nice. I just picked up "Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables" on CD, pretty decent
Television's two albums are a score. That Black Flag album has "T.V. Party" on it [video is hilarious] You've got some cool stuff. I like T.S.O.L. but they changed their style
in their later years to like a more alternative rock style, which I liked alot better, especially their "Strange Love" album from 1990 [Where they sound more like The Cult]
