As a critic I was looking for the 'crack' the fault that breaks the spell of uncanny life. This figure does NOT have it. It is uncannily alive. Amazing and beautiful. Stylishly Italian as well!
    Tornatore should be well pleased.

Thanks for your kind comment. The automata was a little jerky in my video, and was operated a lot more smoothly during the actual filming

That final puppet is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen what I wouldn't give to work with you. Thank you for your time and effort. Please continue your hard work and if you wish to take on an apprentice I would dedicate my life to the progress of the art

The point of the automata is that it's supposed to be ugly: Oldman deceived people in order to make a big profit. He even deceived the girl who he loved on at least a couple of occasions. Then the roles were reversed and he was deceived. His beautiful paintings were stolen and replaced by the ugly automata that spoke in his voice. It was to mock him - suggesting that he was an ugly person inside and out. Also, it put across the concept that what you think is going to be beautiful can turn out to be ugly in reality (e.g. - his life of fame and fortune that turned out to be lonely and not worth it in the end). I don't like this film at all. However, I recognise the creativity and intelligence that was behind it.

This is really astonishing and the 100's of hours that must have been spent on it is mind boggling.

Fascinating. The laid back jazz hardly prepared me for the nightmarish disembodied head though!
