Solitude in the Cairngorms | Solo Wild Camping.

  • This particular backpacking and wild camping trip would be a typical mixture of weather extremes.
    Late morning in the Scottish Cairngorm's was blisteringly hot with the start of the UK wide heatwave as is typical in the Scottish mountains it then soon gave way to 30-40 mph gusts and heavy rain during the evening.
    However, it was another fine, long walk in the Cairngorm's up to Loch Etchachan which is the highest Loch of this size in the UK with the surface being 927 meters above sea level.
    It is a great walk and thoroughly recommended. But note it is a very long route, but made up for with spectacular scenery.

    Hi Ray, how do you find those pyramid style tents , like the lanshan and the jumperhome, in the Highlands for wind and heavy rain, say versus hooped or domed tents?

    • @RS.Outdoors
      @RS.Outdoors  Před 2 lety +3

      Pyramid tents are great in high winds and much more stable than some hooped, domed tents. Unless you pay big money for something such as a Soulo. However I have found that tents such as the MLD Duomid are best if you get them in DCF Cuben fibre. My Duomid with solid inner nest was about 1kg in total weight and masses of space. They are extremely strong in high winds but do shake and rattle, but never felt unsafe. Not sure on some of the cheaper Chinese silnylon versions though as I have heard few horror stories. Link to a great old video of Duomids in wild storm that a guy Daron Linney filmed a while ago. czcams.com/video/hpwOpzNmoXQ/video.html
