Too Short spoke to VladTV about his rivalry with MC Hammer when they were both coming up in Oakland, and he explained that things never got serious between them. Too Short also addressed MC Serch's claims that Hammer put out a hit on 3rd Bass, and he believes that Hammer wouldn't have to pay anyone to do anything to someone he had beef with.

+djseriousbizness He was a G. People forget he was cool with PAC and was signed to Death Row at one point in time. He also took care of his people back in Oakland when he made it big time which is why his hood had so much love for him. He was not a dude to be played with for sure tho.

@@wildsidetv313 Vanilla Ice too. Grew up in a broken home where he was beaten a lot, ran away at age 15 to South Florida, where he dealt drugs to survive. Ice Ice Baby was an autobiographical account of escaping a shootout that he was involved in while in South Florida. Later when he moved back to Dallas (and lived out of his car for a long time) he GOT stabbed (10 times) in a drug related knife fight.
This is why Vanilla Ice didn't like to talk about his childhood years a lot and everybody assumed he was privileged until people actually went and dug up his arrest records. And the stuff he DID want to talk about, like his success in motocross, people falsely accused him of lying about.
Compare this to Ice Cube, who everybody thinks is hard and made ultra hard gangbanging rap, but had a stable homelife with a loving family growing up, never dealt drugs, never injured or killed anybody, etc. Talked about the AKs a lot, but never fired one off in anger. Never got shot or stabbed. Only ever got arrested for non-violent performance reasons for BS charges that were dropped.
That surprised Pikachu face that gets made when people realize Ice Cube was relatively privileged compared to Snow or Vanilla Ice...

    Gotta pause..
This man is correct, and I didn't know MC on the street. I met him in early 84, I was assigned to work with him for a short time. We had many conversations, revolving around music, and where we were from. Everything I got to say about him is positive. He was an extremely sincere man back then, and through the many interviews I've watched with him, he ain't changed. Meaning, he's sincere, genuine, filled with integrity, and definitely loves his hometown, Oaktown. Everything I say is 100%. He'd tell me, almost every night, one day he was going to be famous, and I'll admit, I doubted him. I doubted him because I knew him by his last name and he wore a sailor uniform like I did. However, this man did not stop, what I mean is every single night he came in with some kind of dance move and I won't really go on about that here. Don't know if anyone cares. But what I would like to say, is that when he told me he was going to make it big, he didn't say stuff like he was going to buy cars and houses and stuff like that, he told me he was going to bring everybody with him, all the guys he know on the streets, their families, he was going to take care of them. He wanted to give so much back into 'Oaktown', and even included the Bay Area in general. He was so passionate about his town and his friends and making a career, why would anybody want to say anything negative to the man? I'll tell you, he never came across as a pushover. Strangely, there's a whole other story on how I learned that he was MC Hammer! You see, when I transferred out of his unit and into another unit, we went overseas and I never saw Burrell again. Until many years later, I see a guy on TV who looks very familiar to me, but couldn't place his name, eventually I did, and tripped me out. Still does to this day, obviously.
Anyhow I won't go on about that story here, I've written way more than anyone would care to read. If anyone's made it thus far thank you very much, this man will always be on top as far as I'm concerned, he busted his ass every time I saw him, he deserves all the praise, because he earned it, nothing was handed to this man as far as I know! Hugs and respect to The MC!

He really was a phenomenal guy.
Unfortunately back then, as you know, there was no Google so a lot of the things that Burrell told me I kind of called him on it, not really believing in the stories he was telling me, like being with the Oakland A's, and things like that which, as we know now, was all truth.

Hammer is a legend and extremely under appreciated. People clown and say he 'sold out' when that was far from the truth. Hammer employed fed and helped people from his community at the expense of him filing bankrupcy (which to clear up is not the same as being broke!!) Hammer never sold out and was reputable at a young age and still is!! Wait until people actually start listening to those songs like "living in a world like this" "why cant we live together" "a song for eazy" and many more they are songs for intellectuals and people whose minds go through real life situations. And yes people so quick to forget hammer was on deathrow with snoop 2pac daz and all them. There were many rappers taking shots at him or slick lines etc. Hammer was at the top of his game inn90-91. Hammer w as dancing early on but he was more harder around Feel My power and Hammer don't hurt em w/disses to LL and of all ppl Run DMC which was UNHEARD of at the time and the nerve of Hammer to do so. I think that was also to get respect from New York. I can remember going to a Hammer Too Short concert and Public Enemy,NWA,EPMD show. Oakland people have a diverse thought process that will blow most people's minds. Beyond the talented people in the forefront are the intellectuals and warriors. Some are either, while many are both. Like Spice1 Triggaz Got No Heart, it told the story similar to what Short wanted to say in the interview. The 80s and 90s provided the exposure yet never the whole story. Enough to keep you conscious. Hammer was one of my favorites. He mastered his craft. Big Up to the Black Kings and Queens of Oakland 👑👑💯

Always enjoyed Hammered music. He was always positive, he didn't glorify drug dealing;in fact, street Soldiers and Brothers Hang on were the complete opposite. The only time I've heard him say something on the rather violent side was in It's All Good, with that threat to Redman. It's a shame the haters helped keep the man down. Even if he had been employing too many people, he might have wizened up over the course of his career if the idea of listening to his must hadn't come off as being the uncool thing to do.

MC Hammer from my neighborhood in east Oakland. Everything Short said was correct. Hammer ain't to be played with, but he is the most humble person you'll ever meet. Hammer is a part of the crew called High st Bank boyz. If you know Oakland, then no need to explain. They use to make us (the youngstas) box in the gloves all the time. If you didn't have hands, you couldn't hang out. Period.....
We learned from the best. Too bad these youngstas today not blessed to be raised by real O.Gs

Was with Burrell in the Navy for a few months, was on temporary duty with him.'84
At beginning of comments section, choose 'top', not newest.
Ain't got nothing to do with me, heck I was a lucky one back then, but every now and then I come back to this video to see how much love people have for MC (Burrell), so the stuff I posted speaks to the man that he was, and still is, from a perspective in '84, just us two guys working the late shift together. Lot of conversation, and a lot of dancing, lol.
All the props everybody's giving him, 100%.
