  • Juliane is curious, so Luke goes long and deep on what defines a three ball cascade, and if there is a way to do it with four balls.

    Fantastic video. Love the (exhaustively) comprehensive approach. However, 11:15 onwards for the impatient :-)

    Screw basic geometry, I’m going to do a 4 ball cascade anyway!
    Edit: it didn’t work...

    I really enjoyed watching this analysis, Luke! You should do more of these type of videos! I also would like to see that three person pattern to understand it more. If you have two other friends you can do it with and record it would be awesome! :)

    What I like to call a 4 ball Cascade (or any even number Cascade) is a 3 ball Cascade pattern but with 4 balls, but since you have one more ball, you throw a multiplex on the second throw. According to your explanation, that wouldn't appease the conditions of a Cascade, or would it?

    • @lukeburrage
      @lukeburrage  Před 7 lety +6

      It all depends on which "rule" of the three ball cascade you want to break so it works with four balls. I say no to multiplexes, but if you're happy with it, go for it :)

    • @christopherjohnson1683
      @christopherjohnson1683 Před 7 lety +1

      I agree that multiplexes would be breaking the rule, you did a really good job breaking down the cascade in your video! This is why I love following your vlogs! I think being a juggler is more about just being able to juggle, it's just as much having an overall comprehension and knowledge of the tricks on top of the ability to execute them! Kudos Luke!

      And thanks a ton for the suggestion George! I've been learning how to do 5 ball cascade lately and I'm getting really close to being able to do it consistently! Juggling 5 balls with multiplexes in a 3 ball pattern i feel has actually helped me a bit in being confidant with 5 balls. I was able to pick up the pattern you suggested relatively easily and it's a lot of fun to do!

    Lovely stuff. My initial answer was just "Yeah, 53." really interesting seeing just how many things *aren't* a four ball cascade.

    If a juggler were to juggle 6 balls in a form of 2 cascades like one using the arms and the other with hands does that count as a 6 ball double cascade?

    I think the point of the challenge is to use only two manipulators. I liked one of the patterns you did that almost satisfied the criteria. Very entertaining skills though.

    This is gonna sound stupid but can’t you just do the hand motions for a 5 ball cascade but take out a ball and it would be a 4 ball cascade?

    • @anonymouswhite352
      @anonymouswhite352 Před rokem

      The rhyme would be wrong
      A three ball cascade goes:
      1,2,3
      A four ball fountain a-sync:
      1,2,3,4
      Five ball obviously being:
      1,2,3,4,5
      Five ball with only four ball is:
      1,2,3,4,0 which leaves an odd beat

    I like "cheating" with 5 or 6 balls.Like doing a cascade,throwing 1 ball at a time,and after 3 balls crossing the last two using the lower parts of palms.Or 4/5/6 balls shower,where all are thrown,but you "skip" and "boost" by doing 1s with several balls at the same time.It makes the shower much slower and easier.But it is multiplexing,because 1)a ball lands on top of another ball held in palm 2)more than one ball is held at the same time
    So,they use [22]
    It is like "golden mechanic rule".You bow the diagram,winning in one dimension,but losing in the other.
    The even number cascade is impossible because of assymmetry or antiparity of the time and ball spaces.You have to eather not change hands or do synch throws OR "cheat" by temporary holding more one ball or let them land on top of another to "win" some time.OR throw them different heights or put hands or different heights.
    The MAIN difference between 3 and 5 ball cascades is that the second one DOES NOT have balls crossing at their highest points.So it is a bit of guessing,aiming and counting.

  • @jugglelunky
    @jugglelunky Před 5 lety

    When you say "No ball can have a unique role in the cascade", does that mean the siteswap must be a single number?
    If it wasn't a single number (or reducible to a single number), then you could have 2 different numbers, and thus 2 different balls doing different things.
    Applying the rule that average of all the digits of a siteswap is the number of balls in the pattern, any siteswap for a 4 ball cascade would have to be '4'.
    Now we need to prove whether or not such a siteswap is jugglable.

      you can make your own easy
      czcams.com/video/SyfxIryiD8A/video.html
      the weight of a juggling ball is between 90-130g.
      You can even fill it with rice. After I made my own, my skills jumped rapidly compared to the tennis balls. Use easily inflatable balloons, because some are tight and will have a higher chance to break.

    yes, there are different hand movements and ist`s the sideswap 4, but I would say that this is a cascade

    • @lukeburrage
      @lukeburrage  Před 7 lety

      I'd say this is a mills mess variation that happens to look like a 4 ball cascade, not a cascade. It depends if you think "balls have to cross" means "cross to the other side of the pattern" or "cross to the other hand".

    • @frailTy7
      @frailTy7 Před 7 lety +1
