Original Timberline sharpener vs knockoff sharpeners

  • I tried to pinch a penny and get these knockoff sharpeners on eBay and Amazon. I thought they would be halfway close to the original. Not so much. After seeing these in person I realized they were not what I was looking for so I called Timberline directly. After a short conversation with the sales representative I purchased the real Timberline sharpener from them and it arrived in the mail in just a few days. #timberlinesharpener #chainsaw #timberline

I just bought the middle one, the Amazon knock off one, the picture did show timberline, but was not timberline, it came with like 6 extra bites, I read some where that the bits was promised to get like 90 sharpening out of, so, I got it, put it all together, went thru 4 bites sharpening (1) 20” chain, the handle it came with was my biggest compliant, it was pressed onto a aluminum handle, after the 2 or 3rd tooth, I’d hafta stop, take a small tack hammer to tap the pressed aluminum handle back together, the single claw the creator spoke of, would not hold up against the tooth without slipping off, I did end up changing my physics grip onto the tool, holding the claw behind the tooth with my thumb, after getting the (1) chain done, one of the 2 guide holes you place the handle into, had literally walerd itself out, apparently, the guide tube is also made out of a soft aluminum, in short, it is a fantastic idea, small and compact to carry into the woods, and give a great quick sharpening to your chains, but please, spend extra money on Timberline and NOT the 2 knock off brands, I am NOT sponsored by anyone nor have any affiliants with any co, I’m just an old mountain man who enjoys cutting his own firewood, I’ve done it all my life, if you don’t want to spend $300 for electric sharpener, than the Timberline is a good tool, but NOT THE KNOCKOFF, I wasted $45+ bucks! Good video Mr, I totally agree with you information!

He never said the larger one wouldn’t but did point out how it was inferior. I don’t think the quality of the knock-off’s “carbide” was discussed in the video, unfortunately, which is a frequent big difference based on Amazon reviews. I’ve never seen a knock-off anything that didn’t cut a lot of corners, especially when the price is half (or less!) of the original. Knock-off Viking Arm jacks come to mind.

I have an old Arnold rotary tool that is fifty sixty years old and works perfect. I am still using the original carbide burrs. For some reason the old original burrs just keep on cutting. I must of sharpened my saws a 100 plus times, easy. That is why I paid extra for an new old tool which I was real lucky to find at a swap meet. Arnold made a lot of great tools that few people even know about. That is my two cents. I do believe the timberline made in the USA will work great also. I personally know a few woodsman who have them and are really happy with the unit.
Also, I still sometimes just use the round files. Which have recently been on the soft side compared to the old files which are rock hard side. Nice video too. vf

Thanks for sharing this video. I bought the dolls house knock off last week, I wish I had seen this video first. Ebay refused to refund me. ( so much for the famous Ebay Money back guarantee) I have noticed that over the last few years, chinese knock off's have gradually declined in quality, and now they are openly manufacturing rubbish that they know won't work. I recently bought a twin cylinder tyre pump for my car. I thought it would be a lot faster at pumping than the single cylinder one that I had. I had a problem with it, so I took off the cylinder cover, only to find that the second cylinder was not there. They had deliberately manufactured a twin cylinder cover to fool people into thinking that they were buying a twin cylinder pump. That is deliberate fraud, and will eventually stop most people buying chinese in the future. Very shorted sited of them I think. They had a great market and they have thrown it away for no real reason other than petty greed. I would have liked to buy the Timberland sharpener, but I can't get one in the UK, and to buy from US is out of the question with the unbelievable postage costs. Paul UK.

@@NaturesCadenceFarm Excellent! I'll look forward to your video. Maybe you could sharpen one chain with the Timberline and one with the other brand and see how fast you can cut the same log. So, one thing he didn't mention is that the timberline has a lifetime warranty on everything except the sharpening bits.
I just bought the timberline. That was reason number 1. Reason number 2. It's an American company. This product was designed in America by Americans. Those other sharpening things were manufactured in China after China stole this American company's design. It's called intellectual theft. Amazon and eBay are facilitating the theft of an american designed device. Which is illegal, by the way. I'll say this, which will probably not set well with some. If you buy this Chinese crap, and that's just what it is, you're part of the problem.
Me. I'll spend the extra money to support American made products by an American company. Instead of buying cheap Chinese knock offs.
