Those pads are heavy to begin with. After a hour on the ice the are usually loaded down with melted ice water. Then the fun really begins. Another hour to go. Geeez!
I have heard that only the pro stock had deer and the production line pads were horse hair. Supposedly the deer hair is more dense and the pros were willing to pay the extra money for that . . . If anybody can confirm or deny

i retired those pads a couple years ago to my now 'modern' 2005 vaughn vision 5500's....just turned 59 last monday.....
hope our Blues can finally put a winning streak together glad binner getting some rest-let husso get some playing time and confidence-need them both playing good...

When did Kirkwood become an indoor rink? Back when I had practice there in the mid 90s it was outdoor.

It's Bruce Racine's gear. He wore this set up while playing for the St. Louis Blues in 1994.

I had to use full right gloves for a while when I got to California. Weird. BTW, I got to face shots from Brett's uncle Dennis Hull. When he played with Bobby on the Hawks, Dennis had the fastest shot in hockey - 118 mph. When I faced him in 1991 at Golden Gate Arena in Redwood City during Media Night for the new NHL franchise Sharks, he was older, definitely heavier (Don't worry, Dennis, I am too now!) but let me tell you - he could still bring it. I've been hit with some blue darts over the years, and my gear wasn't even close to top of the line (I would have killed for the gear you had on in this video! I did have the Vaughn 1030 trapper, though) so obviously I was a little nervous. I don't know how hard he could have gone, but as heavy as his shot was, I didn't want to find out! I don't know about the gear nowadays (You even mentioned how it has made the game easier for goalies), but back in the day you felt most every shot. Some more than others, and pain was a part of the game.
