Thank you. After 400 years of buying premade coffins, i decided that for this century, i would make my own custom one and now will do with this video 👍
Yah after a few 100 years the costs add up eh?
I've done some youtube videos MANY years ago. Amazing how many hours it takes for just a few minutes of video. A lot harder than it looks! Not to mention the editing!
Loved the blooper reel too. Sometimes our brains just don’t want to cooperate. Great build. Can’t wait for Part 2.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Landscaping in Florida, I totally feel your pain. I can’t seem to get anything done without baking like a potato
Its great to see the outtakes on videos - nice to see that the pros go through the same trials and tribulations as the rest of us. In all seriousness great video and I look forward to seeing part 2. I really enjoy the props you create!
Glad you enjoyed it
What was more frustrating: the heat or being tongues tied?
Really appreciated the bloopers!
Heat. I'm used to being tongue tied. LOL
Love the outtakes! Interesting build, too.
Glad you enjoyed it
Hahaha love the bloopers reel 🧡🖤😂😂
As someone who is also from the South, my mantra is "If you need me in the summer, no you don't." 😂 Heat is always a valid reason to postpone anything! The project is looking SO GOOD so far and I'm really excited to see the rest!
Also the bloopers are adorable and I love them so much
Always love your builds! The outtakes and just an added treat. Thanks!😂
Glad you like them!
Thank you for being a panel member at SoCal Lighting Enthusiast meetup.
A scraper to spread glue? Ohhhh GAME CHANGER!!!!
Hey Derek! The "oh come on!" is me yelling at myself in every video I make! I agree, this heat is really slowing me down!!
Hahaha
As a New Orleans resident (formerly of Southern California), I sympathise with the heat/humidity. So to give y'all a bit of relief, we've shipped a nice, cooling tropical storm your way. You're welcome! ;-)
(Please stay safe and dry. Don't let that coffin build be needed.)
Much larger than I would have guessed. Looking forward to part 2. Bloopers are always a bonus.
I love the outtakes
I love building coffins. Probably built about a dozen over the years, all toe pinchers. I have two and the others are here and there in others haunted houses.
Thanks for your how-to knowledge Derek. The blooper reel shows how hard it is to make these videos.
I just wanted to say I have learned a lot off your channel. You are a great craftsman! Thank You Very Much, Boib and Debbie in Oregon
I hope that hurricane isn't the break in the weather you're talking about. Stay safe if you're in the path.
Awww yeah! 🙌⚰🪦
Awesome opportunity! Thanks for sharing the journey!
Yes, now we have that break in the weather coming in the form of hurricane Hillary… I hope you got more of it done! Looking good so far, the bloopers are very relatable
😂 bloopers were great! Glad we have the same talking head troubles.
Right?!
Two minutes in, and I already learned something new 😊.
Glad to hear it!
@@VanOaksProps I have an additional question. What do you think of just using the foamular boards with the 1x3 framing, if they don't have to be particularly sturdy?
@@kurtkyre it could work.
Looking forward to seeing it completed for sure. Love the bloopers reel. Brings out your humanity, which is great! It might also subtly support people with confidence issues.
Even the season veteran struggles from time to time to get things just right with several attempts. 😂 Thanks for sharing!
Loved the outtakes!
I am so happy for you!! That’s awesome!! Loved this video!!
Sweet man, can’t wait to see how you finish this off. Stay cool man!
😂😂😂 love the bloopers
Ha! The bloopers were hilarious! Excited to see the rest, I’m in Florida so I get it, there’s no working outdoors after 7am, and it’s in the 80s at night, as in after 9pm. 🥵 what a pain!
This looks awesome,.stay safe in the hurricane today
Looking fantastic so far 🎃💀🎈☠️
Thank you!!
Looking great. Heat in central illinois is going to shutdown my work of the haunt fence with 100 degree tempts and 60 to 80% humidity. The highlight though was the bloopers real. Those are screaming to be a regular feature.
derek its gary in vegas finally got my 3d printer and am doing the test prints for my haunted mansion singing busts.... so far amazing !!! ned is printing now then all will have a test print done so i can play with the video a bit if all plays out ill start printing the to scale size busts.. the mansion ones are supposedly 3 ft tall mine will only be 1.5 ft then ill be moving to the bat stanchions for the rope tops ....as they say i need to look alive !!!!!!!........thanks for the motivation now ill go make something!!!!
A "break in the weather" is a hurricane 🤣
Right!? Lol
Good morning from Arizona!
Hello there!
Very Nice!
Thanks!
Wow impressive, you are an awesome prop maker. Love it. 🧡🤎💛🍁🍂
Thank you so much!
Love this build! Very well done!
Also, get yourself a Kreg Pockethole Jig. It will help making your Pine frames a lot stronger.
The bloopers are a crack up! The work is looking great already, looking forward to part 2
Haven't time to watch it just yet, but already excited just seeing the title card. I've been beating this idea around in my head for a couple years now and this may be the final motivator!
I love your build videos. Here in Texas we are in the SUMMER... no rain for months, no pasture left for the livestock and too hot to work on props and such outside! Getting ready to start my crypt wall build for the cemetery. Planning 2 big crypts and a line of ovens! Going to be FUN!
The bloopers made me laugh! Your videos are always so professional and you seem so at ease on camera, that it's nice to see that even you have to film retakes!
The bloopers remind me of Bruce Almighty when he screws around with the guy (Evan Backstabber, I mean Bastard, I mean Baxter) got the anchor position he wanted in the news room! LOL
"And my tiny little nipples went top France" - Evan Baxter
Great design. I get tired of toe pinchers after a while. This would be perfect to put a body slinger in. Can't wait to see the next part.
Absolutely love it buddy!
The Force is strong with this one. He wanted a “break in the weather”….he got hurricane Hillary. I hope the coffin doesn’t blow away!
I get it, i've been working on stuff in this California heat as well. Stay hydrated and know your limits. Wear underarmor and you can squeeze out even more work time.
I feel you on the heat, things aren't much better in Georgia. Anything outside from mowing the lawn to prop builds have to be done pretty early, or else I'll be just drenched in sweat from my antidepressant lol
Hopefully things cool off soon so I can get some things built, the angle bracket thing's gonna help me building some Frankenstein lab equipment for my theme this year
Can't wait to see the finished coffin, it's looking good bro! Love the outakes / bloopers at the end...LMAO!!! 😂😂😂I know those moments all to well...LOL!!! Thank you Derek for sharing them.
Yeah, we have a change in weather in store! Better bring that coffin inside.
A useful trick on things that have to be broken down is to put dowels in as though you were going to glue them but not glue them. This means that when the angle brackets or perhaps luggage latches pull the parts together they get aligned by the pins.
That’s looking awesome! Can’t wait for Part 2! Thanks for sharing your amazing talent with us!
Thanks for watching!
Good stuff so far. Not sure how far back you filmed, but if it was recent, then the "break in the weather" you were looking for it now a Hurricane/Tropical Storm. I get it, we are here in So Cal (OC) and I am supposed to be painting my Mom's house. Yeah...sure....
This was filmed last week, so the break IS the hurricane. Go figure!
Great stuff. Just found your channel.
Thanks and welcome
Great video! I can’t wait to see the next steps. As far as the weather goes, you went from cold and rainy to scorching hot to… a hurricane? Good lord. What did you poor people do to anger Mother Nature? 😆 In all seriousness, stay safe and I hope you get some good working weather soon. 👍🏼
Cool coffin. I may just trade in my toe pincher for a box like this.
Damn it Derek!
What’d I do? Lol
I told you that me and my husband always cant believe how amazing you are at making props. It makes us jealous. 'Damn it Derek!' is a saying in our house now!!!!
Nosferatu is being remade and will premier in 2024, starring Bill Skarsgard. Idea: ‘revisit’ this piece when the movie launches 😊
110 degrees in Texas really is slowing me down trying to get my army of skeletons ready for my yard
"Prop".. HA!.. We all know whose project this is.. Day too hot.. Sun too bright.. Has to work early mornings.. Doesn't want to disturb the neighbors.. Someone is starting to sound like Jerry Dandridge.. Part 2 will have him working from his basement after hours. (Bet he's got a lot of clocks around the place.) 🧛😎.. 🤔😐😉😆 Can't wait till it's done! Thanks for sharing.
If I can make a recommendation, you would be better off using Titebond III glue which is completely waterproof. Titebond I or II will break down over time should this prop be used outdoors.
For your wood work aspect, I reccomend a trim router with a flush trim bit. It's way quicker than a belt sander. And yeah... This heat has made me not want to do anything all summer. I'm glad you're able to push through it and make these videos though. They're one of the only things lately that I'm finding on the internet that I actually enjoy.
Thanks for the tip!
Is there a reusable respirator mask, filters and safety glasses (that go over regular glasses) you recommend?
I really like 3M respirators. This one in particular: amzn.to/44FvC2g and their P100 cartridges.
Aare those drywall screws you used? Also, I know spooky season is coming when you come up in my feed and I am grateful for it.
Yeah. It’s what I had on hand.
@VanOaksProps whatever works, Derek. I'm the same. Whatever is at hand
I've been digging thru your videos trying to find an answer, as you have done ALOT of stuff, but I can't seem to find it and my question is, what would you use if you wanted to make two pieces of styrofoam seamless. I'm building tomebstones that have a base gluing (2) 1/2inch styro boards together and I do not like the seam around the front of it where they meet and wish for it to go away. I was thinking maybe some kwik dry caulk sealant?? Any ideas? Just curious if you know before I go all willy-nilly applying whatever I think will work and create a mess. Appreciate any recommendations you got! thanks man
Paintable caulk is my goto for handling seams.
@@VanOaksProps Thanks for the quick reply!
Hey Derek where are you purchasing the Foam Core? All I can find is perforated pannels at Home Depot or Lowes, but not solid sheets.
Home Depot near me has it, but I had to get it delivered to me via the website. I couldn’t walk into the store and buy it.
@@VanOaksProps Thanks for the response. My Local Lowes has to special order it for me. Seems strange they only regularly carry the perforated ones.
You have a Casey kasem quality to your voice.
😂 He seems to borrow from other people quite often. Even borrows the “Go make something” phrase from another CZcamsr who has been around longer.
It is not a coffin. It is a casket. A coffin has the narrower ends for the feet and wider at the shoulder.
I always get them confused.
Where's part 2??
czcams.com/video/WeRC6-YgUv0/video.html
That is a casket not a coffin BTW
You are correct. I always get them confused.
This is not a coffin. It is a casket
I always get the two confused.
