Vicariously living through other people's book hauls is my favourite thing. If you want lesser known fantasy recs you should try Someone You Can Build A Nest In by John Wiswell! It's about a shapeshifter who spends her time as an amorphous blob living in an abandoned manor and she can absorb things into her body to form a skeleton or decide to grow organs and orifices and it's gross but also funny and there's a really sweet romance in it and a truly horrible villain. Genuinely the best book i've read all year!
This was so fun!! Just to let you know The Bullet That Missed is book 3, make sure you read The Man Who Died Twice (book 2) first else there will be spoilers! Also the audiobook for Binti is really good!!
When I was in school for a creative writing degree I took a class specialized in detective novels/stories. We read the Maltese Falcon in that class among many others. So, if you like the Maltese Falcon I would recommend The Man Who Was Thursday by GK Chesterton
For classic fantasy I always turn to Raymond E Feist...he has a lot of books and series in a sprawling world. My favourite is the Daughter of the Empire trilogy. ❤
Next time you want a blind date with a book but you don’t want to get something you already own. Look up the ISBN of book you think it is, and compare it to the ISBN on the back of the blind date book.
Love the video! LOVE Pachinko, I resent that it only said Japan on the blind date and didn't include Korea. The family's Korean! 😅 I get worked up over it haha
Hello Sydney. I just found you. I cut my teeth in fantasy with David Eddings (his wife wrote with him some) - he wrote The Pawn of Prophecy and all the books related. He also wrote The Mallorean series. I believe I own all of them still. I also read Stephan R. Donaldson, the Thomas Covenant series and The GAP series. These are classic to me.
I'm so excited to follow a CZcamsr who is from my area. I could say, "I've been there," or "I love that place!" I'm excited to stop in some new shops now that I've seen your preview. Also, Franklin is the best town. Thanks for the fun video.
Have you tried the Abhorsen series by Garth Nix? It’s more classic, and the premise is so cool. The hero is a good necromancer who puts the dead to rest rather than raising them.
If you ever make it down to Bloomington, Indiana you should check out Morgenstern's. They're my local indie bookstore and I think they also may be the largest in the state. They have a really great fantasy section!
Love this and love you, my beautiful friend 😊 Also can confirm that Wild Geese Bookstore is literally everything. The bookstore is magical and the owner is so kind. Love the haul 😍😘
✨✨ This was such fun!! I added several of these to my TBR. I just always enjoy every one of your videos. Oh, and I have *_The Familiar_* on my TBR -- maybe we'll find a vampire in there but it's totally a Witch work! :)
I’m in Iowa, and Wild Geese is one of my fave indies and I’ve never even been there! I discovered them via Pantsuit Politics book club, and then shopped from them all through Covid. When we adopted our child, the owner dropped a bookish onesie into one of my orders just because😭
Elena Ferrante is my favourite author, and the Neapolitan novels are my favourites of her work. Her writing is incredible, like no other - truly the top tier of literary fiction!
Check out Raymond Fiest, Stephen Donaldson, Sheri Tepper, Elizabeth Ann Scarborough, Anne MacCaffrey, Marian Zimmerman Bradley, C.J Chery. Those are some of my favorite classic fantasy authors.
✨✨✨✨✨The first video of yours I've seen, new subscriber and I adore your book taste and knowledge, very different from my own. and your vibesss are on point! :) I'm a fan 👌📖
I did a book crawl a couple of weekends ago and it was so fun! There were about 20 participating bookstores and I made it to 9 or 10. Went a bit overboard on books 😅
As a book lover in Indy, this was amazing. We hit a few of the North-side stores the Tuesday after and they were still recovering from that crawl. Sounds like a fantastic time. Also, FWIW, The Blade Itself I snagged from B&N Noblesville. (And we love MacAuthur Books!)
I loved clear so atmospheric. husbands a fun time. Irvington bookstore is never opened when it says it would be even when I lived there for 7 years 2011-2018. open like 5 times. loved Indy reads though.
Hey!! Love that you’re in IN - I will be checking out a couple of these places I haven’t been to yet! I’m located in the West Lafayette (Purdue area). I have a FUN video rec 🙌🏽 Come visit and vlog at Von’s Books! It’s a huge, beloved bookstore (and other things) in town. It’s phenomenal 🩵🩵 Upstairs = new books (and their other major departments like stones, jewelry, fashion, music), and the basement is truly overflowing with use books😻 Other stops could be Main Street books and Second Flight Books in Lafayette :)
I've recently been looking for more classic fantasy novels written by women, so I have recently started acquiring a list. But here are some classic fantasy novels that are on my TBR: The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley; Dragonsbane by Barbara Hambly; The Witches of Eileanan by Kate Forsyth; Daggerspell by Katharine Kerr; Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier; Summers at Castle Auburn by Sharon Shinn; Dragon Wing by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman; The Forgotten Beasts of Eld by Patricia A. McKillip; and Green Rider by Kristen Britain; Here is a general list of other classic fantasy authors not mentioned above: Tanith Lee, David Eddings, Raymond E. Feist, Robin McKinley; and Mercedes Lackey 🐉😊
Also I have My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante sitting on my shelf and I keep meaning to read it…maybe it can be a patreon book club option in the future 👀🙃
I agree that I go into book stores hoping to find a certain fantasy series because they have amazing ratings in good reads and they are not there. I have ordered Blood and Steel by Helen Scheurerer which is the first book in the legends of Thezmaar series. It is amazing! Highly recommend this romantic fantasy!
if i had a car, Id be in my used book store ALL THE TIME! like i had to ask them to keep my book light that i left there the week before, and they were super nice and held my book light. Its called the Next Chapter! What a cute name for a book store! TBF though, the price to park is not cute... The indie store had the book ive been needing, but they had the other book ive been needing too....so like i chose the hard cover cause i couldn´t find it anywhere, and they had both, but they only had two left of the book i needed, and i did my happy book dance! i was so happy! I dono how you feel about long books, but you might like J.R. Ward if you like Classics. if you like long books (and thick ones) you might like her)
I have The Tempest of Tea out from the library right now. I probably won't get to it until May though. Want to know what you think. Your town and surrounding towns have so many cute bookstores and coffee places. So lucky!
So many cute stores, I loved this video!! I’ve seen only a couple people talk about My Brilliant Friend but I recently thrifted it and hope to read it soon! Also can’t wait to read The Familiar and A Tempest of Tea 😊✨
I didn't know you live in Indianapolis! 🤗 I live in Wisconsin and my husband and I just planned a little Midwest road trip with our kids to Indianapolis this summer. I'll try to stop at one of these stores while I'm there. Great haul! 🫶
Such a fun video! My mom absolutely loved “My Brilliant Friend” (and the rest of the series) and has been recommending it to me since so now seeing you buy it, I’m taking it as a sign haha ;)
Loved doing the crawl and glad you finally got to do it! There were a few you went to that I did not make it to so I’m going to have to check them out!!
Hi Syd! Just a heads up! If you want to read the second book in the Thursday Murder Club series, you’ll want to read The Man Who Died Twice! The Bullet That Missed is the third book in the series.
✨✨ really great video! Elena Ferrante is always a good idea!! The My Brilliant Friend Series is one of my most favorit read ever! All four books. Love love love ❤
If you ever feel like making the drive, you should go down to Bloomington and check out Morgenstern’s!!! They have an awesome fantasy, sci-fi, and horror selection and are just an overall amazing store. I just moved away from Bloomington after finishing my master’s and miss that store so much. The staff is great, there’s a coffee shop inside and lots of seating. Prepare to spend lots of money 😂
I had to read and watch the Maltese Falcon for a Detective Fiction (Dic Fic 😂) class I took in Uni. I really enjoyed the Noir genre, even though it is painfully sexist, it’s very smoke and suspense!
I'm basically doing this same thing Saturday for independent bookstore day. Did any of the locations tell you if they're doing anything special? Also, I had no idea about the original book crawl until after the fact. Know if they'll be doing it again?
I loved The Husbands! It was my book of the month pick last month and I enjoyed it so much! Edit: Also how do you learn about upcoming books and how did you develop such a diverse reading palette? I pretty much only read thriller/horror/mystery but recently I've really been loving contemporary fiction that I've discovered through BOTM...
During the last bookstore of day one, I fully thought you put a clip up from the store of a poster saying anti bad vibes shield. Until you started to your first bookstore on day two. I then facepalmed realizing it was hanging from your car mirror. 🤦🏻♀️
Vicariously living through other people's book hauls is my favourite thing. If you want lesser known fantasy recs you should try Someone You Can Build A Nest In by John Wiswell! Genuinely the best book i've read all year!
It hurts seeing other people live out your dreams 🥹🌷 love this for you!!
This was so fun!! Just to let you know The Bullet That Missed is book 3, make sure you read The Man Who Died Twice (book 2) first else there will be spoilers! Also the audiobook for Binti is really good!!
ope!! the shelf must've been out of order and i just grabbed it not knowing!! hahaha noted!!
*me as soon as you read the blind date with a book description* …bestie not only do you already own it, youve already read it 😭
Indie book store crawl - what a great idea! How fun.
Classic fantasy writers: Octavia E. Butler, Jacqueline Carey, Anne Bishop, Marion Zimmer Bradley, Susan Cooper, Louise Cooper.
When I was in school for a creative writing degree I took a class specialized in detective novels/stories. We read the Maltese Falcon in that class among many others. So, if you like the Maltese Falcon I would recommend The Man Who Was Thursday by GK Chesterton
✨✨✨✨✨love the books. Crane Husband , Tempest of Tea and Build Yourself a Boat
If you haven’t read Kevin Hearne’s Druid Chronicles. I recommend! It was great. It’s urban fantasy.
I read The Husbands in a single day. It was so unexpectedly good! 5 ⭐️s. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts.
For classic fantasy I always turn to Raymond E Feist...he has a lot of books and series in a sprawling world. My favourite is the Daughter of the Empire trilogy. ❤
That edition of The Magic Mountain is to DIE for !!!
I love this! I live in Lafayette, so it’s nice to be able to add some new bookstores to the list to check out when I’m in Indy! 😊
😅 I get worked up over it haha
i COULD NOT AGREE MORE!!! that is why i thought "maybe its *not* pachinko!!" ugh lolol
My city is doing an indie bookstore crawl this week. I’ll be doing it this weekend and I am so excited!! This just increased that excitement 🥹💞
Hope you have an amazing time
One of my favorite western poetry books came from a blind date from Indy Reads! loved this indie book crawl ✨
My husband loves David Eddings.

Books “in the wild” 😂 ✨✨✨
Classic fantasy authors to consider….Kate Elliott, Barbara Hambly, Anne McCaffrey, Michael Moorcock, Margaret Weiss, Tracy Hickman, Tad Williamson 💚💚
Columbus, Ohio, is having their independent bookstore craw on April 27! On independent bookstore day. I can't wait
This was so funnnn! I’m glad you finally got to do the crawl! Okay so many good books but also fun fact about me, I LOVE Mary Oliver sm
I’m from Bloomington but currently live in Muncie and I always stop at some of these place when I drive through Indy to go home
Have you tried the Abhorsen series by Garth Nix? It’s more classic, and the premise is so cool. The hero is a good necromancer who puts the dead to rest rather than raising them.
Love love love Nnedi Okorafor, such a brilliant writer ✍️ ❤
If you ever make it down to Bloomington, Indiana you should check out Morgenstern's. They're my local indie bookstore and I think they also may be the largest in the state. They have a really great fantasy section!
Love this and love you, my beautiful friend 😊 Also can confirm that Wild Geese Bookstore is literally everything. The bookstore is magical and the owner is so kind. Love the haul 😍😘
Hamlet is one of my favourite plays, and that cover is so pretty.
✨✨ This was such fun!! I added several of these to my TBR. I just always enjoy every one of your videos. Oh, and I have *_The Familiar_* on my TBR -- maybe we'll find a vampire in there but it's totally a Witch work! :)
Such beautiful bookstores! I wish I can go to these one day.
I didn't know that Leah Johnson owns a bookstore until I saw this video.
I’m in Iowa, and Wild Geese is one of my fave indies and I’ve never even been there! I discovered them via Pantsuit Politics book club, and then shopped from them all through Covid. When we adopted our child, the owner dropped a bookish onesie into one of my orders just because😭
that is SO SWEET!!
Try Charles De Lint. His books are hard to find. When you do see any of them get one. Try his boos are good.
Books
Elena Ferrante is my favourite author, and the Neapolitan novels are my favourites of her work. Her writing is incredible, like no other - truly the top tier of literary fiction!

I’m 75% through The Husbands. So interesting! Can’t wait to see how it ends.
The Neapolitan series (My Brilliant Friend) have been made into an HBO series🤗
As a book lover in Indy, this was amazing. We hit a few of the North-side stores the Tuesday after and they were still recovering from that crawl. Sounds like a fantastic time. Also, FWIW, The Blade Itself I snagged from B&N Noblesville. (And we love MacAuthur Books!)

✨ loved the video. You always make my Goodreads tbr so much longer😂.
This was so fun! I added The Emperor and the Endless Palace and This Ravenous Fate to my wishlist. They both sound so good!
I'm very envious of this stunning edition of the Magic Mountain by Thomas Mann. It is a german classic ( from 1924) and pretty demanding.
I loved Our Divine Mischief as a new Fantasy Author!
omg i’m so glad you still did the crawl!! 🫶
Hey!! Love that you’re in IN - I will be checking out a couple of these places I haven’t been to yet! I’m located in the West Lafayette (Purdue area). Sparkle emoji! My TBR just got longer, again!
Love videos where I need to go back and forth between the vid and my goodreads TBR over 10 times 😅
Also I have My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante sitting on my shelf and I keep meaning to read it…maybe it can be a patreon book club option in the future 👀🙃
I'm living in the wrong state lol nice book crawl ❤❤❤ love this video

Sisters of the Lost Nation is soooooo good! Five stars and it made me cry.
The little smiley faces instead of the stickers are so cute 😂
My brilliant Friend is sooo good! The second one is my favorite. I don't knoe about the english translation, but the french one was immaculate
i guess you’ll just have to come visit me in texas because my nearest half price books always has Joe Abercrombie ✨✨
omw🏃🏼♀️
I have The Tempest of Tea out from the library right now. I probably won't get to it until May though. Want to know what you think. Your town and surrounding towns have so many cute bookstores and coffee places. So lucky!

It’s seems like such a fun thing to do
Such a fun video! My mom absolutely loved “My Brilliant Friend” (and the rest of the series) and has been recommending it to me since so now seeing you buy it, I’m taking it as a sign haha ;)
As always, love when you share what you buy - added a bunch to my TBR.

This was fun! ✨✨✨
The Maltese Falcon is sooo good! and the movie is great too !!
I'm currently reading the ninth rain by Jen Williams. Not really a classic but an awesome book in an amazing setting!
i can’t believe you’ve never been to franklin or zionsville! such cute areas!
Probably already know about him but Pierce Brown is my new Fantasy author.
Love this idea!! 🥰
Lol before you opened the blind date book I guessed it was pachinko lol
such a cozy bookish vlog!!! i'm super excited for your spring and summer content sydney! : -)
Sooo fun!!
The Maltese Falcon is also one of the greatest movies ever!
I read You Exist Too Much for my IRL book club last month and loved it!
I just got second-hand excitement watching this
I might have to do something like this soon! It looks so fun!
If you ever feel like making the drive, you should go down to Bloomington and check out Morgenstern’s!!! Read the Covenant of Steel trilogy by Anthony Ryan!! First book is called the Pariah, so so so SOOOO good!! ☺️📚
I ACTUALLY JUST GOT THAT!!
@@SydBookWorrom it sounds like we have similar reading taste so I think you'll enjoy it!! Definitely one of my favorite trilogies of all times 😍
I had to read and watch the Maltese Falcon for a Detective Fiction (Dic Fic 😂) class I took in Uni. I really enjoyed the Noir genre, even though it is painfully sexist, it’s very smoke and suspense!
Kind of weird opening a store a little too late in the middle of the day.😅
I'm basically doing this same thing Saturday for independent bookstore day. Did any of the locations tell you if they're doing anything special? Also, I had no idea about the original book crawl until after the fact. Know if they'll be doing it again?
It’ll be yearly!!!
I loved The Husbands! It was my book of the month pick last month and I enjoyed it so much!

I’m reading The Wager because of your recommendation a few videos ago!
During the last bookstore of day one, I fully thought you put a clip up from the store of a poster saying anti bad vibes shield. Until you started to your first bookstore on day two. I then facepalmed realizing it was hanging from your car mirror. 🤦🏻♀️
Oh man, I live in Indy, wish I had known about this!
This was lots of fun! ✨️
Terry goodkind is an awesome author
