- Hi Friends! Welcome back to the channel, here is my honest Tesla Premium Connectivity and why it's not worth paying for it. I would recommend sticking to Standard Connectivity. I will be going over the good, bad and the ugly of the premium connectivity features and what comes free with your tesla using standard connectivity.

Convinced me that I made the right choice to go with Premium Connectivity! Great video!
Glad you enjoyed the video! 👌🏼
Me
Too lol, totally worth it for $10’
@@shdmd2118 just get the $100 a year. worth every dollar to me
I live in San Francisco where you need to have Sentry mode.
@@mocheen4837 me too. ive been avoiding street parking especially in the TL and downtown. Just been doing all garage these days. Cheaper than a broken Tesla windshield. not worth the hassle
I have premium connectivity I paid it yearly $99 and I don’t regret it at all.I don’t need to reach to my phone every time to activate hotspot and connect it.I have satellite WiFi everywhere I go.For your convenience and your safety I will highly recommend it
The big downside is you have to remember to turn on your hotspot EVERY TIME to hop in the car, and Sentry mode isn't just for theft, it's in case people bang into your car in a parking lot or key the car. (Sentry mode works without premium connectivity but if you do get an alert remotely it's useful to be able to see through the cameras to see what's going on).
£10 a month (in the UK) is not much to make one's life that little bit easier on most trips. The main disadvantage, at least here is that sometimes the signal isn't that great.
So you buy an expensive EV but are too cheap to pay $99 a year?
i bought a Tesla just to get the Premium Connectivety 🤣🤣
Even if I'm not in a sketchy area, I'd still definitely pay $10 a month just to get sentry mode. Does the car come with sentry guns or is that a seperate add-on ?
My phone subscription only has 6 GB data included. Upgrading it to unlimited data would cost more than twice the amount I'm paying for Premium Connectivity. On top of that I would lose camera view in sentry mode. So I disagree with your statement.
In the end it all depends on your mobile data plan and the cost for upgrading to include massive amounts of data when using your phone as a personal hotspot.
I see your point, but the way I look at it is that I am with my phone more often than my Tesla, so I have a need for more phone cellular Data. I currently get 30GB for ~$50/month here in Canada, so maybe there is room for you to negotiate with your cellular provider? Also, hard to deny how cool sentry mode is but I just wouldn’t use it often enough. 👌🏼
@@astateoftech Like I said, "it all depends on your mobile data plan and the cost for upgrading" and for me those cost are too high. For 6 GB I'm paying SEK 209 (±25 CAD) with free calls and text and that's enough for me (connected to WiFi 95% of the time). For 30 GB it would cost SEK 369 (±45 CAD) and I only pay SEK 99 (12 CAD) for Premium Connectivity, so saving 96 CAD per year.
There's one more issue with using your phone as hotspot. The car is connected to WiFi, so it will download updates using your phone data. General updates are 2 GB and map updates over 6 GB, so that's really eating into your plan. My car connects to my home WiFi with unlimited data as soon as it's in the carport.
Respect your needs, but it's not for me.
I have unlimited internet on my phone for 25 euro’s
I thought Tesla uses google maps already, no? I’m confused.
Thank you for demonstrating why it's absurd to not pay for it. I've no regrets for getting it.
Nice one!! Didn’t know about these features 👌🏽
Thanks for watching! 🫡
Great breakdown. For me I think it is worth it, mostly for sentry mode. The thing I don't think you considered is it's most valuable away from home and you can disable it automatically when at home to save battery. I'm less worried about my Tesla being stolen, and more worried about vandalism and accidental collisions in parking lots. I think of this as an additional insurance policy.
I also think traffic visualization is pretty cool, though I think I agree that it alone is prob not worth the subscription.
Forgot to mention: Sentry Mode drains a ton of battery about 5% per day when left parked in my experience.
Let me know if you agree with me or not 👇🏼
Agreed with the battery drain. Worth the drain to keep the cameras on
Worth it if someone hits your parked car and drives off, as just happened to me. Without my Sentry video of the offending car and it’s plates, I would’ve been SOL. So yeah. It’s worth it for that alone. I leave it on 100% of the time, regardless of battery drain. It’s a small inconvenience over great benefit.
Yeah I just ordered mine last week and now I am convinced to pay for it.
Definitely disagree that it's absurd to pay for it. I like seeing the traffic and obstacles on the screen, and really Sentry mode alone is worth it for me. If I'm parked in the city or some place I feel is less than safe, I'd like to have the option to enable Sentry mode. Having the peace of mind that my car will record any scratches or dings is worth the $10/month for me.
You still get sentry mode without premium
it’s all about perspective and I respect your opinion 👌🏼
@@PennsylvaniaHomesforSale
But you need premium to view live camera, remotely.
Is it possible to stream Google Maps from your phone to your Tesla's touchscreen? I know it has Bluetooth but not Apple Carplay or Android Auto.
Not that I am aware of. Only solution would be an aftermarket screen to add on but I wouldn’t do that.
One of your best videos yet! Super engaging as usual. The sentry mode is the best feature of premium connectivity.
Thank you! Yes, Sentry mode is definitely a unique feature to Tesla 👌🏼
With standard connectivity, you just get simple navigation. No live traffic visualization to find the quickest route, and not detection of speed cameras. That alone makes it worth getting premium connectivity
If you don't mind the hassle of having to put your phone in a dash mount just to use Spotify or maps, sure. You won't get the convenience of having a big screen to access your streaming music app. It would've helped if Tesla had Carplay and Android Auto.
Live traffic visualization just shows where traffic is when you navigate, not showing the autopilot view with live traffic
That’s what I thought. I was like it’s not the car visualizations. It’s the maps.
My app does not have software upgrades? Why? I just bought a used Tesla a couple days ago
Just completely disagree. I love the satellite view for a start…
All good! If you like it - then it’s worth it for you
mine doesn’t have Disney plus included, any idea how to add it?
Can I add other apps in theatre? Need that NBA app💯
Are you sure that's what live traffic visualization is? Isn't that the red/orange lines of traffic in the map
Navigation is very very true!!! Tesla had me going to to the wrong location. Took me 10 minutes out the way
Very good research on premium connectivity
Thanks a lot! Glad you enjoyed the video 👌🏼
If you can afford a Tesla, then Premium Connectivity shouldn't break the bank. Some people like to pinch pennies though, so respect for creating this video, brother.
Lifetime PC came with my 2018 model 3.
Wow that’s amazing!
EU Model Y
PC trial ended but whenever i try to buy it on a computer it says i need to either buy it through the app or the car itself
Thing is the only option available to "upgrades" are accessoires
Like no option to even buy it
Can someone tell me what could be the problem here?
Hey - it should be in your Tesla app if you follow this sequence: Upgrades> Software upgrades>Subscribe
Decided to get premium for Sentry
Thanks my Canadian brother
🫡
Very useful guidelines for Tesla users.
Thanks and glad you found it useful 😊
Maybe you should activate online route planning to get more accurate time estimates ...
how can the navigation be traffic on route when it is offline?
Standard connectivity is still online
I don’t have premium connectivity either cuz I have enough data on my phone to hot spot. The only annoying thing is once I shift to drive it turns the wifi off. So I have manually turn the wifi back on in my Tesla model 3. Does anyone know how to fix the problem and keep connect to the wifi hotspot.
I actually don’t remember that being an issue for my model Y…maybe I should give it a try to see if I experience the same thing.
I don't even have a tesla but I watched this until the end because you're quite entertaining
Haha thanks and appreciate the compliment 🙂
It's simple: IF "wife" THEN "premium connectivity" (Netflix). It removes all the whining noises immediately.
Yikes! Your wife must be a lucky woman..
Like the video. I subscribed. But I disagree with your conclusion. Worth the money in my opinion.
Thanks Jimmy - appreciate it! I respect your opinion, everyone values different things 👌🏼
I ran out of data using my hotspot. It's worth it
Damn - I watch Netflix/CZcams in the Tesla max once a month, so haven’t run into that issue
Who has limited data these days?
No absurd at all. If you want to connect to your hot spot each time it’s fine.
$10 bucks a month is a deal
Nah i prefer sentry mode in case someone dings my car etc i have video that may catch a license plate or something
Non-stop with the Tesla knowledge hits 😁
Haha thanks 🙏🏼. I try my best!
It’s $10 lol
Its a must have. $8 a month is nothign for what you get. If uou dont drive then you shouldn't pay
really great videos. informative and a great reference.
People who are saying premium is no biggie and not expensive are making 300k annually.
so what happens after 8 years?
Sentry mode alone is worth it
You pay 10 bucks for internet connectivity and comfort... 😅 when sharing wifi you use your internet...
So just to be clear, you need the premium connectivity for Spotify? I have to have Spotify for my music.
You can use Spotify on your phone and bluetooth to your car.
Overpriced =10 dollars 😂
You lost me when you recommended Bluetooth over the build in Spotify or Apple Music interface
Bluetooth allows you to pivot between multiple music sources, phone calls, etc…all at once
TPMS light is on bud
Haha thanks - it was taken care of after the video
Trying to save $100 a year after having a $800 monthly payment or spending $40k on a car .. If you can't afford this you can't afford the car
I can afford lots of things that I don’t buy if I don’t need them. For example, I can afford to buy a vacuum cleaner every month, but the one I have is enough.
Couldn’t have said it better…it’s all about the value you get for your money. Just because you could doesn’t mean you should 👌🏼.
I got Premium Connectivity. Just part of having a Tesla to me.
Funny how all this is free on my hyundai LOL
You earned this follow lol
Should be free-I mean a colored map and live traffic $13.99/month wtf?
Where are you going to get unlimited cellular data for $13.99 per month? Duh!
Guarantee you will not need it unless you are video streaming hours on end everyday haha
@@astateoftech Dude, this is 2023. I like colours in my GPS maps and I like my buildings to look like buildings and not grey squares/rectangles on a grey map. LOL
Fun video, however you just glossed over the music streaming apps, which my friends say is the only reason they have premium… thank you nonetheless…
True - I just prefer Bluetooth since I didn’t like how Spotify works on the Tesla
Right on, God Bless!@@astateoftech
Premium connectivity is worth it every penny,
I’ll pay for the premium connectivity. 99 dollars per year isn’t much to talk about. As for your trashing the features, haven’t experienced any of your beefs.
Yeah….. still gonna pay for it 😂
erm, $10/month to watch people react to a car farting? Yup!
imagine thinking its not worth it.
Damn all this to make Elon richer? I get all this stuff for free in my car. Except for the sentry thing.
Assuming you mean not in a Tesla? The standard stuff is included
Ahhhh, one or those stupid. "why I'm returning my brand new iPhone" videos for clickbait.
absurd to pay for that shitty car in the first place
