How to Decorate a Thrifted Jacket with Upcycled Embellishments

- Wearable Art! This is a diy/tutorial on how to upcycle a thrifted blazer. Mine is pink tweed, but yours can be anything you want. We will create a beautiful and romantic collage using flower applique, bird applique from a pillow cover, vintage lace, ribbon detail and vintage mother of pearl buttons. We will also be adding a layered ruffle and fringe to the sleeves and bottom. Create a one of a kind piece to wear or sell (like I did for many many years). I try my best to give detailed, understandable instructions, this is more like a class.

@tmyershandmade978 I've been like most people, just clad in Walmart off the rack. People treat me very differently when I wear these, "originals." Many seam jealous? I've found they either think, I paid a lot of money for it, or I made it myself. Either case, this irks some people. It's the most bazaar thing I've ever experienced.

I love the jacket. I have been doing some experimenting and find a cropped jacket looks best on my short rounded figure. I made a cropped flannel upcycle and a denim jacket and plan to do so much more. Upcycling has made my wardrobe so much more fun to wear!

Ha ha I was a hairdresser by trade for over 35 years. Known for my fab short & sassy haircuts. Sewing since before I could even read a book! So running with scissors has be a life long endeavor! When they say “don’t run with scissors “ - I just ignore the! Still haven’t cut or sewn my arm off yet!!😜

I have always liked adding lace to my clothing but I used to get hung up on finding enough of the same lace. Your videos r helping me to be able to mix and match laces and fabrics more easily

I just found you yesterday, binged watched all day! I could not stop! I'm an anique dealer always shopping for vintage jewelry, junk, love lace tablecloths and vintage textiles, made a 40s barkcloth jacket in the 80s I still have! Love overalls, denim and fashion in general so I'm digging out my hords of stuff, and going to drag out that sewing machine for the first time in 25 years so such. I'm only wearing natural fibers any more (keeps the shopping to a dull roar too) Did you know linen has the highest frequency of all fabrics? Just love it when I find a linen piece, now if it doesn't fit, who cares? I will upcycle it! You've really got my creative juices flowing again so a huge THANK YOU!

Tracy, I absolutely love this jacket. It is beautiful. I love everything about it. I do have one suggestion that I hope you will find helpful. Whenever you have a small area to sew such as your sleeve hem, turn it inside out, and sew on the right side of the sleeve, INSIDE the tunnel. That way, you won’t have the other side underneath, and won’t constantly be moving it out of the way. I think you’ll find it life-changing!😂
