- With great pleasure I'm inviting you to a journey into our mysterious universe accompanied by the atmospherical music composed and performed by MunDoSow. "Ether" is out of her album "New Earth", an album of introspective electronic music., "A travel between light's secrets and life's mysteries...".
MunDoSow, a longtime resident of Paris, France, is a self taught musician and composer. "New Earth" is her latest solo project. For more information please visit MunDoSow's site at: www.mundosow.com.
My sincere appreciation and very special thank you to MunDoSow for the permission to use her music!
According to ancient and medieval science, aether (Greek αἰθήρ aithēr) also spelled æther or ether, is the material that fills the region of the Universe above the terrestrial sphere. Aristotle included aether in the system of the classical elements of Ionic philosophy as the "fifth element" (the quintessence), on the principle that the four terrestrial elements were subject to change and moved naturally in straight lines while no change had been observed in the celestial regions and the heavenly bodies moved in circles. In Aristotle's system aether had no qualities (was neither hot, cold, wet, or dry), was incapable of change (with the exception of change of place), and by its nature moved in circles. Medieval scholastic philosophers granted aether changes of density, in which the bodies of the planets were considered to be more dense than the medium which filled the rest of the universe. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aether_(...)
And they allowed Apollonius to ask questions;
and he asked them of what they thought the cosmos was composed; but they replied:
"Of elements."
"Are there then four" he asked.
"Not four," said Iarchas, "but five."
"And how can there be a fifth," said Apollonius,
"alongside of water and air and earth and fire ?"
"There is the ether", replied the other,
"which we must regard as the stuff of which gods are made;
for just as all mortal creatures inhale the air,
so do immortal and divine natures inhale the ether."
Apollonius again asked which was the first of the elements,
and Iarchas answered:
"All are simultaneous, for a living creature is not born bit by bit."
"Am I," said Apollonius, "to regard
the universe as a living creature?"
"Yes," said the other, "if you have a sound knowledge of it,
for it engenders all living things."
