Thanks for the video. I followed this to replace my 04 crv engine cover gasket. Some important information was not mentioned in the video. There is a fixture at the right side of the engine next to the air filter, you will need to unscrew the 10mm bolt under 2 lines to have better room to get the cover out. The 10mm bolt is really hard to access. Otherwise you will find the fixture at the right lower corner is perfectly in your way to lift the engine cover. I ended up broke one engine cover stud bolt by over tighten once I put the engine cover back. And distorted another engine cover bolt too. Then I realized Honda has specific torque on engine bolts. So the torque to tight the engine cover nuts is 7.2 ft lbs. In case someone broke the stud bolt in the engine like I do. The torque to tighten the engine cover stud bolt is 16 ft lb and you will need a 12mm deep socket to replace them. The torque for engine coil is 8.8 ft lb.

Took me 4 1/2 hours but I was also replacing the vtec solenoid gasket. That took me a good hour to unseat, clean and change the gasket. Man nobody tells you how much it sucks to clean all that leaked oil off. There was also a bar right above the engine cover that was prohibiting me from removing the cover. I had to unbolt those and create a little room, but I didn’t see the part about pulling the power steering cable towards you. Hopefully that saves someone who pays more attention a lot of unneeded stress. My legs are pretty shot. I also stripped a couple engine cover bolts because I had it in my head that they needed to be super tight. If it leaks I tried my best lol.

Thank you for taking the time to document this repair! At 202,000 miles the gasket was very leaky. Was probably losing a quart of oil every week.
One quick question: is there supposed to be a small gap between the engine cover and bottom? I tightened the nuts like you said and there's maybe a millimeter gap where you can see the blue gasket.

I went in for a belt squeezing in my Honda Element 2004. I was told that the valve gasket was leaking. That it had got oil on the belt . That I should replace it , because if they only changed the belt it would happen again.
So I said go ahead and replace it.
My last oil change was at 249k. I use the high mileage oil and I replace it every 3 instead of 5.
First couple of days were really cold, so I had my heat on. Then it warmed up and I didn't have my heat on. I noticed my car starting to overheat. Put the heat on and it dropped back to normal level.
I called the shop this morning, I had taken it to and told them what was happening. I told them I didn't get off till 5. They recommend coming the next day.
My brother was visiting when I got home ( 45 min ride from work to my home) he said he'd take a look. He saw the new belt. Then looked an saw oil all down the side of the engine. Even on the pullies. He then checked the oil and it was almost empty. We added 3 quarts. Ran the car for a few minutes. Checked again and had to add another quart. So a total of 4 quarts. We then drove the car for 20 min. No over heating. We checked oil level again . It was good . We checked under car . Nothing dripping or leaking. But with all the oil on the side it would be hard to tell...
My question is shouldn't they have checked the oil in my car if I had a leak , especially if it was all down the side? And shouldn't they have cleaned it up? . The guy at the shop said they could do a pressure test ? My brother asked what was the results of the first pressure test?
The guy also said that low oil would not result in the car overheating. My brother said had I drove it one more day, as low as it was, my engine would have seized up.
Seeing as how you cleaned everything...and we're so meticulous really has me questioning all of this.

Aside from some of their quotes, you can’t really be sure if they’re fixing your issues or playing you and cutting corners. I suggest you do some proper research and fix these things on your own or if you got someone close like a friend or family who can help that’d be great. Saves you A lot of money
