The entire spark eating scenario wasn't a thing in the movies. Since they said "we couldn't save him" we can imply he was alive for a little while after being torn in half due to energon loss. and yes, transformers can survive a certain amount of time without a lower torso.
What makes it worse was that he was still ALIVE for a brief moment. Rachet states that they couldnt save him which means he was alive and that his gun was retracted even tgough it wasnt when he was ripped apart

If you look close you can see that he had his cannon out when he got ripped in half but his cannon is retracted when Optimus is holding him, so Jazz probably bleed out for a while before he died because he had enough time to retract his cannon RIP.
