I had a career of installing wall coverings for 18 years and then a recession hit and I switched 13 years ago pasting the wall instead of the product is new to me I’m 82 now and I’m going to. do one last wall and in my own house and your video calmed all my qualms about installing paste the wall product . I got out without a rotator cuff injury but I did trash the joint at the bottom of my left thumb. Wishing joy and few injuries on your work and again thanks
My friend, you have forgotten more things about Wallpaper then I have yet to Marion. Good luck with your project
Very interesting and well done! I was not aware Christopher Walken had a cousin in the wallpaper trade. You do sound like him :)
I constantly install Arte wallcoverings and I must say that the vinyl is far easier to install than the cloth, felt or foam wallcoverings they have. Foam has been by far the hardest of the three to install.

This is very interesting. In theory then you could probably wet any type of paper to get the expansion out before application and just paste the wall right? What are your thoughts?
My friend, a lot of guys do exactly what you just said.
Awsum job.you are a true wallpaper hanger.my grandmother did this as well.she was good.i wish I helped her to learn more about wall paper..like glues, paste, and etc.what type of glue did u use on this project..???

@@spencercolgan right on.thank u so much.i just got some paper from Italy..it's so fancy.
Spencer, I have found over the years that the pattern drops in the direction that you are installing. My theory
is that I put more pressure on the smoother after I have set the seam. One way to combat this is to run
your smoother up and down to relive the tension on the wall covering. Does that make sense to you?
Wow. Happens to you too? Tell me: run the smoother up n down where?
I read your comment; up-and-down on the wall covering… Absolutely correct in fact, if I did not do it on the video come off video I was pushing on that very hard upwards you are absolutely correct because it has happened to me too often that I have run off and I am very much aware of it since I did a clothing store a year and a half ago in Citrus Park Tampa called JOS bank
Spencer, do you think things like contact paper and peel and stick wallpaper will end the need for wallpaper installers?
On the contrary! You ever hang P and S? You need a super pro!
@@spencercolgan Oh really! I've never done a peel and stick yet, I assumed they're easier to do. Nice!
Emilio Estevez oh no sir. Very hard.
@@spencercolgan Interesting, might get a roll myself and test it! Thanks Mr Colgan!
Peel and stick is the hardest thing to install its just a nightmare
Spencer, I’m curious why, in the first half of the video you hung the Arte wallpaper “dry” (did not wet the fabric back of the wallpaper first), while in the second part of the video you showed how to hang the wallpaper wet.
You are very observant. And I will tell you an embarrassing reality: if you look at my video I published one month ago on “reducing liabilities “I made reference to this job; the contractor who hired me didn’t know what he was doing and had me hang that wallpaper in the wrong room; if you look closely, you will see that I’m hanging it in two different rooms, the first was a mistake, the second one was after I removed it and I applied Paste To make the installation work for me. But that was a very good observation
Spencer, if you soak the wallpaper first, would you still use a heat gun to help often the vinyl and “flatten” the seams? I’d think the heat would dry out the wet backing in the process. What’s your recommendation?
“soften the vinyl”
Run the smoother up and down on the wall covering, not just down.
Do you have experience using vinyl faux leather as “wall paper”? I’m wondering what adhesive you would use and if there are similar “tricks” you would use like with the vinyl install in this video.

When I hang Schumacher wallpaper I notice that it expands once I install the second drop on the wall, do you think maybe I could spray water on the back of it prior to hang it on the wall?
