    The aluminum scythe in my video is a Seymour, which you can find on Amazon here: amzn.to/2boJQ13

    As with all edged blade tools, it's a *slicing* action (not a chopping action) that's most effective. Same as a kitchen knife, you don't simply press down, but *slice* to make your cut. This is why it's important to have some *swing* to your cut, to avoid the blade hitting square on. Slow the video playback speed down to see this swinging-and-slicing action.

    For some reason this looks really satisfying.

    I'm thinking about getting a scythe and was wondering if the blades are interchangeable from type/brands?

      Yes, in my experience they all fit one another. I'm sure there are some that don't play well with others, but I haven't seen such a blade yet. The nice thing is changing them around. A week and grass blade are great.

    This will be very useful to me. I have a hilly property that this will greatly improve things because of some dense weeds on a down slope behind the house. Getting SO tired of weed eater line breaking every 60 seconds--no more!

      @@metaspencer Thank you! I just picked up two scythes today, one with the weed blade and the other with the grass blade. This will take some practice and I wish I had more level ground to learn with.

      using a stone to sharpen the blade is not peening it, you put the blade on a anvil and hit it to case harden and draw it out more to get a nice thin edge. you will get the blade way sharper when you peen it.

    • @metaspencer
      @metaspencer  Před 6 lety

      You peen the european blades, not american blades
      It has to do with how they are made

    Is it a bush hog or a brush hog? You need to learn the proper way to use the scythe. Stop chopping with it and swing it with a slicing action. Good luck with the scythe.

    • @metaspencer
      @metaspencer  Před 5 lety

      Thanks man! I’ve learned to swing for grass but still chop at tough weeds. Gets the job done
