Bonus Monday post-work Saddle Up video 🎉
Great shooting either rifle. The larger group in the MSR could have just been cold barrel shots. Then again you had some lateral movement afterwards. Could be the 85 grain has a little more space to jump to the lands, or like you pointed out, the semi auto loading may have reseated the projectile ever-so-little.
But I'll go with that MSR all day.
Still no reason not to use the bolt action hunting varmints even if a little slower. The heavier bullet, even the 85 grain, is going to outperform a 223/556 at distance. And that rifle is tight 🎯
Thanks Dave. Have a great week 👍

Dave. Good video. Also, great shooting with both guns. That was an amazing group with the bolt gun one of the best I have seen. Thanks for sharing and take care.

First, good video no wasting time right to the point. Also I'm happy to see the positivity towards the BCA .243. I assume you purchased an upper or is it a complete rifle? Nevertheless, it seems to be working I think you did have a problem at first, correct? Anyway I hope it keeps performing I own three BCA uppers I mentioned a little about this in one of your videos. Currently they are just fine a couple needed some attention the biggest problem was with the lower host I am using a Ruger. That has been resolved also. I am currently working with a new to me .243 which I have mentioned on your channel that is giving me some grief. It's a 20 inch barrel being short getting the velocity up there is difficult and so far no loads in the lower velocities have shown exceptional accuracy. Not a total failure it shoots plenty good for hunting velocities lag behind 100 fps and more with lighter bullets loading close to max published data. I took a .270 to the limits a couple of times I don't wish to do it with a .243. My latest test was shooting three shot groups on a target and directly below the same target I shot the remaining two rounds to make it a five shot attempt. This was to see if the barrel was heating up that rapidly. I take the two shots from the lower target and lay them on the top three so far I see no difference shooting three or five shots the group pattern stays the same. Shooting five shot groups I did see some pattern shift after twenty rounds or so shot at moderate speed taking time to load the magazine and it's a three round one. We were mid 80's here in South Texas yesterday and after ten rounds the barrel was pretty warm a few days ago we were over 90 and I heated it up pretty good. I ended up setting the rifle in the front seat of the Mule to get it out of the sun between target changes. A question about the Win 760, have you ever used magnum primers for ignition? I have read somewhere it was a hard powder to ignite. I tried a couple of loads with this rifle with 760 and got bad sd's and high es. Kind of old powder but I have a fresh pound recently bought. Keep the content going with .243 I need all the help I can get.

I was born in Brownsville and I still have relatives that live in McAllen. I use only standard LR primers in cartridges that have less than 60 grains of powder. Best wishes for your .243. You'll get to where you want to be soon enough for sure.

@@davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009 I remember the good old days my dad did lots of work in Mexico with the fever tick program he stayed in Brownsville a lot. We would go across at Matamoros and shop in the market there. There was a restaurant bar I believe it was Los Dos Republicos we would go to that was nice. Progresso was another town we went to a lot now it's very popular if you dare mess around across the border. The Mercado in Matamoros was destroyed by a fire once we haven't been back last time I was close to the border was when my wife's sister lived in that area. Her husband was a driller for an oil company they lived in Mission, McAllen and Zapata we would cross at Reynosa that was 40 years ago. Man time flies. Now I am located just east of Pearsall in the brush country nothing but red dirt and snakes.

@@davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009 I like both platforms. Each of them have their place as long as they're accurate. Your rifles certainly are.

depends i guess on what you're hunting. Pigs, semi is perfect. deer or predators, i'd prefer the bolt action accuracy. unfortunately, in Australia, semi's are not easy to obtain, not even a little 22lr semi. lever actions seem popular for pigs.

I've always thought about this brother. The bolt action is extremely accurate, but you have to break your shooting stance to manipulate it. With the semiautomatic, you don't. Good shooting. 👍

Great shootin.. I do believe that with all things being equal, if you were to work up a round for the BCA and fine tune the load, you could get a better group. As you said, for HUNTING purposes, both are just fine. There will always be that opinion semi-auto rifles CANT be as accurate as bolt action rifles! Honestly, 20 years ago, I do believe that it would be true , for the most part. Dave i wonder if you worked up a load for the BCA if you couldn't get a much better group?? 😂😂😂 I can hear the comments now. Oh, it's not fare it's not the same, and so on. I for one would like to see if it's possible.

I'd be curious to see a comparison of 4-5 different loads, including velocities from each gun.. I would think the MSR might lose a little FPS from the gas system, perhaps making them closer?

    43 grain @ 3380
