One of the greatest jazz/funk/urban/downtempo instrumentals of all time (well, I was a kid back then in 1974 when it came out) but to see so many others now doing it justice with their own individual renditions is just so utterly wonderful to see.....
Well played, but, Keys Guy: gotta a Korg Radias or Boomstar 4075 to do the synth parts. To be fair, Kool used 2 keys guys on stage to pull this off. You could midi the Rhodes chords and then play the synth over that for the full effect. I DID enjoy this though. Thanks for sharing it.
A really magic rendition of the 70’s iconic ‘Kool and the Gang’ classic. These guys do a real stellar job! In the 70’s I was DJ’ing 7 nights a week as well as doing hospital radio and trying to keep up a ‘day-job’ [In an operating theatre] on top. Life back then was ‘burn the candles from both ends’ - but what the hell! I had the pleasure to see ‘Kool’ at De Montfort Hall at Leicester back then on their UK tour. They couldn’t fit most of the 'Gang' on the stage [or barely!] - there was so many of them. 'Sweet Departure’ do one of the best take-off’s I’ve seen. A really tight group, but they have that smooth [Soul and Funky] rhythm in their bones and it jells very very nicely - you can just hear it. Hat’s off guys - a great sounding track and you excel.
