- We set out to break the "Classic Rock of The Peak" record using a tandem bike.
Classic Rock routes are from the book 'Classic Rock' by Ken Wilson. The routes we did are all the ones in the Peak District National Park, UK.
There are 12 routes, 4 crags, and around 55km of cycling between each. Due to time constraints we ended up doing this on one of the hottest days of the year!!...classic shenanigans.
Big shout out to Will Gould and Wesley Cole who brought this challenge to life and put a time down on paper.
Then to Matt & Dylan Heason and Tom Newberry who put in some quicker times after our round.
Classic Rock of The Peak by bike is a brilliant challenge that is achieveable for lots of climbers and generally a great day out. We'd certainly recommend it 👍

Did Matt/Dylan/Tom stop for pudding and ice cream? If not I feel like they didn't complete the WHOLE challenge.
NOBODY walks the line between world class athlete and complete goober like these boys.
Imagine being a none climber seing two people on a tandem bike and one guy wearing a shirt saying ”Crack is back” 😂 great video
the war on drugs failed so now we just climb high
The level of focus, planning and determination is very similar to Honnold and Caldwell on their record-breaking Nose speed record!
Pete: "Is it over there or something?"
Inspirational!
Casually climbing rocks without safety gear after wearing a helmet on a bike ride. 10/10
Haha, so true :P
haha, good observation but in all likelihood, they are safer climbing without gear than biking with a helmet
Pete's run is adorable, like a toddler still learning :)
😂😂
2:40 Running in climbing shoes?! You're mad lads and I like it ;) World would be a sadder place without you both. Well done 'professional dad' and his 'dripping buddy'👍🤣.
Love the challenge, love the video! I do have to admit I get nervous when seeing anything related to speed & free-solo in combination though - even if it is very easy for you!
Soloing is always done at a sensible pace even though it's a speed challenge 👍
I can't believe you guys were so nonchalant about soloing all of those routes. It's so hard to tell the difficulty so I was sweating my palms off.
They're easy, and we've both soloed on grit for 15 years so know the rock type well.
@@WideBoyz what are the grades? Roughly in YDS... I still don't get y'all's grades yet.
@@runbike28 The hardest would be about 5.7.
The golden ratio of Climbing to walk-in was hilarious! I absolutely agree ahahahahahah
Tom was looking very professional Dad with that headgear and luminous top combo 🤣
"I think the key to today is efficiency."
*stops to take a cinematic selfie shot*
*Stops for pudding*
Nice job! This is a bit like the Longs Peak Triathlon in Colorado: 76 miles biking, 10 miles running, 1700 feet of climbing. I think that the record is around 9 hours.
Love you both and love your work boys.
Loved it. Classic Wide Boyz.
Well done gents, this was brilliant to watch!
Great day out. Thanks for taking us along!
needed some motivation to get active today and this hit the spot, absolutely awesome video! couldn’t stop smiling the whole time 😆
I just love you guys and your shenanigans ❤
Had a constant smile while watching. Love your spirit.
another great video!!
Nice work out there boyz!
Absolutely mad and yet brilliant at the same time. Seems to be the running theme for Wide Boyz videos… which are always superb. Well done Tom and Pete!
You two are absolute beasts, and keeping up the mood whilst doin this is impressive! well done chaps!
That was brilliant, looked like so much fun... Apart from the sweltering heat and all that, but just going for it on chill relaxing boulders really looks like a good time
such a cool video guys! I agree about the cycling just being hard as nails as well, it really kicks my butt however it helps a ton with cardio endurance for sure.
Amazing! I really love these challenge suffer fests🙌🤩
awesome challenge! love the tandem bike
Been waiting for this video! Gotta say it's nice to see Tom, he can be a funny bastard
A great book! Hard Rock as well
15:41 Pete's "aaggh, i don't like cycling' - me everytime I cycle
One of my favourite videos in a while. Thanks for being great climbers, innovators, mediocre cyclists and total goofballs. You're awesome!
what a beautiful landscape
"Professional dad"!! Love it 🙂
Had me dying the whole time, such good content when you both take it easy breaking a "record" like that. Truly can't get enough of this stuff
Ahhh this makes me miss the Peaks so much!!! Can’t wait to come back
First, you got me, when I read the notification "speed record by tandem"... and I thought "ok, what shenanigans have they done again? No way did they beat any speed record as a human crackipede/tandem(cause no crack) on the speed wall"... and it was an actual tandem and some actual cracks (not disappointed though!!).
Second, you got me with the really light weight ropes... just free soloing everything.
Finally, you got me, when you said, you broke the speed record.... only to get it broken twice before the release of this video ;).
Kudos to you, wide boys, kudos...
Love this love grit will have to attempt one day
Love ya guys! Happy to host you in Canada any time!
You guys are the greatest climbing and personality duo ever! Greetings from Slovakia ✌️☺️
This guys are real world action heros
Congrats on the (temporary) world record! Thanks for the entertainment and the great ass shots ;)
I’ll always be on the edge of my seat with these things! Had a good friend fall 20ft on a solo luckily he was okay just a couple broken bones but this many at speed in a day 😅 that’s a tense watch!!!!!!!
Thanks for this 😄
Great video! I could feel the quad burn just watching...
(Hope you get your choice ice cream next time!)
Love that you used a tandem bike to do this!!!!!!!!
thanks for the video
Great video guys 🧗♀️
Thanks for watching 😀
I laughed out loud while watching at the climbing gym right after stretching. You are something else 😂❤️ And well done!!
Btw, I totally share the disappointment about that ice-cream 😂
Congratulations guys - that was great fun to watch. Gonna go rewatch No Sleep Till Bakewell now!
Ooo yes that's an oldest classic. Hardcore challenge day that one, it took us quite a bit of prep to get it in the 24 hours
Looks like someone needs a time trial bike 😁
Great vid
Epic video lads I proper enjoyed this one 1st class🤘
Thank for tuning in
excellent
You guys are too precious to be free soloing... I was scared!
Easy climbs, done them before, know the rock well, no worries to be nervous 🙂👍
I want to live wherever this is, it’s incredibly beautiful
I once had a pee on the ledge at 5:28 which dislodged a kidney stone that caused me so much pain that we had to bail off and rush to A+E. Good times.
Next time take maybe this classic: The Sufferfest with Alex Honnold and Cedar Wright ;)
Thanks and great vid = )
we need a speed run of every boulder and route at stanage now!
The stamina you guys have to travel so far, climb so much and all at such a fast pace... And on a tandem bike XD
Free soloing everything to save time, how very Alex Honold of you :D
Just getting proper bikes will save you at least 30 minutes. Smart of you, leaving some room for improvement for your next run :D
Can confirm, that is the best Bakewell Pudding shop in Bakewell. I've tried them all!
THE BOYS ARE BACK
You guys should make a video with Francis Cade... i think i never saw Pete looking as destroyed as after a couple kilometers of cycling.
HELL YEAH
Haha I was like, "good joke with the guide books". Turns out, it wasn't a joke.
Loved the map graphic as a history major
Yeh that was a fun touch to the edit from cameraman Pete!
Brilliant video chaps, and some of the comments below are hilarious 😂 Well done all 🤗
3 hours is insane
Rapid
Is this the start of Wideboyz v SufferBros? I'd love to see Tom and Peat versus Honnold and Cedar in a sufferfest challenge of some sort.
Tom: *brings a tandem bike* "what have you brought Pete?
Pete: free solo.
Fruit pastel lollies are banging
best thumbnail :D
"You a professional athlete?", "Nah!", queue the ad. break. Classic!
Hard to say what my fav part of this video is... I think the sheep cameo is winning 😂
You have no idea how close it was to not staying in the final vid😂 glad you liked it!
Love the haircut
I had to take a break from your challenge to look up Bakewell pudding. Looks so good! Hilarious as always guys!
Trad and crack climbers are definitely something different 🤣
You should do a collab with GCN cycling! One cyclist and one climber!
ohhhh hahah i thought you'd broken the highest speed ever recorded on a tandem bike! maybe a challenge for the next vid?
Collab with GCN comming soon :D
15 seconds in, smashing that like button
Haha brilliant 😅🤙
love the Burgtec hat on the guy criticizing the incompetent cycling, dare I guess he owns a Santa Cruz?
He does not 😂 He owns a Vitus
sad there isnt a bike trail :/ MORE BIKES :D
will we ever see you tandem-bike alex honnolds sufferfest? ;)
also, how many vertical (kilo)meters were done (climbing and biking)?
wait they're free-soloing (free duoing?) those climbs...
The madness
That 3h10min time is completely mental. just... how??
the vid should be named "free solo 17 pitches by tandem" :D
The worst thing about a Refresher ice pop is that the purple bit, OBJECTIVELY the best bit, is the smallest! And the yellow is the worst and it's a good 3/5 of the whole thing.
When are you gonna release that top?
Lightest weight rope is no rope 🤙🏼
is it possible to see Kjerag Solo anywhere ?
The real bravery was the trail running in climbing shoes
I'd hate to be the cameraman on something like this. Although it's not too bad because both of the climbers are obviously climbing WELL within their abilities, I hate being around when a friend is soloing, or almost as bad, when they are leading a really sketchy route with crappy pro.
UK version of the CDUL?
Great video. Is there a route list? Pretty sure I've done all the Roaches climbs but cannot for the life of me remember the names.

@@mikecheque Should be top comment
@@Furansowakun I’ve no idea why they didn’t just put the route names in the video 🤷♂️
Why in the long version is half the frame blocked by a still photo
"Classic Rock of The 'Giga' Pete"
tandem is 11/10
They should have partnered up with GCN for this video. 😂😂😂
I thought the exact same thing!
