The fact that Mariska Veres could sing a song in English this well without being able to speak English at the time is just amazing! How did she get the phrasing, cadence, etc., so perfect?
Considering that his father was Hungarian-Ukrainian Gypsy and mother French-Russian, I suppose that Marishka (it's correct pronunciation) knew except Dutch also one of the Slavic language. For example if you know Ukrainian, you can pronounce all the sounds that are in English, especially if you know Dutch, that is also Romano-Germanic language.
I don't speak German fluently but can sing in German with a German accent It's easier to sing accents than to speak em, because using different timing German tends to have a waltzy rhythm when you speak it, and unlike English you speak from your gut, not your chest

KILLER STUFF! I have their self-titled American release from 1970, which features this song. How this group never caught on in the U.S. will forever remain a mystery to me.
Let me guess: 1) They didn't really want to, I'm pretty sure conquering The Hague was good enough for some of its members, and they certainly had no appetite for being pushed around by American record company executives. 2) At least the singer clearly didn't speak English (she may have picked it up later). 3) If you ask me, they only have a few good songs and even those are fairly repetitive and derivative - they sound great but have little substance. The band would have had to develop artistically more than they did. 4) It was a fairly lightweight affair to begin with, a conscious attempt to create a commercially successful pop band - such initiatives may be found lacking in stamina.
i don't no why only venus become a hit/they have a lot great songs.the same with al stewart album "year of the cat".the song "one stage before " is a masterpiece and didn't become a heat....
