When my now husband asked me to remind him how to spell my name I said "Do you want me to put it in your phone for you?" He was the new security guard at the hospital, and I was the new ER tech. Now he's an LEO, I'm 4 weeks pregnant with our first after getting married this April and will be transitioning to SAHW/M in the next few months. I am SO glad I was bold and shot my shot, he is shy and its been the second best decision I've made in my life, only next to deciding to go back to church and let Jesus into my life.

You're living the life I wanted, sweetie. We inherited a farm, we live on 4 acres and just got chickens and previously had ducks, but too many kills by hawks, weasels, and foxes. My heart couldn't take it. So chickens will be 'free ranging' inside a completely fenced-in area. We are now way too old to start homesteading, but I garden and can. I so wanted multiple children, but God gave us one, and he's as perfect as they come. You and your family are beautiful, your home is gorgeous, and I love your channel. Thank you for always being so open and honest. And btw, I bought your pullman pans and followed your recipe, oh my! Wonderful. Love from Tennessee!
It truly is so hard losing animals to predators, we lost a ton before we got our dog and it was devastating every time! So glad you can keep your chickens safe in a run!

I'm not a farm wife (yet), but my husband and I run three businesses, and he works full time. Our family and businesses come first, always. We have lived in this house for over 4 years, and we are VERY slowly making updates and progress when my husband has a day here and there to do something. It has helped so much in me being content with what we have. The skill of contentment is such a wonderful skill to have.
Contentment truly is priceless, it makes like so much more enjoyable and peaceful!
I'm fascinated by your way of life. A farm means a lot of work, yes, but you make everything so easy! I know a lot of people that, with a newborn, are totally overwhelmed, but you have everyone under control , you are perfectly at ease...great example and inspiration for all of us!

Toddlers still have so much baby in them I always try my best to still baby them when I can, because before I know it they’ll be too big and cool for cuddles with mom! 🥹

I grew up in a suburb of Los Angeles. My husband grew up on a farm in Iowa. In 1968 we left the burbs of LA for a rural life in Iowa. Back then people weren't leaving California, especially, to of all places, Iowa. Move ahead 25 years and we're now on a family farm. Our grandchildren are the 8th generation on this land. Like you say, it's a lot of work. The outbuildings get taken care of before the house. The livestock and grain are what bring in the money. It's just the way of life on the farm. We've been here over 50 years, and I wouldn't change any of it. And, oh yeah, my children played Oregon Trail at school. I played it at the library and think I died of measles every time. :)
I've watched some family members attempt the homesteading lifestyle and they are just drowning in it. Neither one of them are physical people so a ton of work gets undone. It's very eye opening and in their situation, they are definitely stuck where they are. They have a ton of animals and a ton of feed expenses. I would also say, if your husband is not on board, don't do it. I thought my husband wanted chickens a few years back, we talked about it, he agreed and then I got stuck with all the work. Which I didn't mind until I had my fourth baby and I just couldn't do it anymore. My husband refused to help(he is not a physical being either) and I was on my own so I said no more and gave the chickens to family. So I agree, if you are not a worker or someone in your family is not a worker, I wouldn't jump in to the homesteading lifestyle at all

I love your perspective so so much and this video was really refreshing for me! Some people in my life say things that have made me question at times if we’re crazy for living this lifestyle but you said it perfectly. Yes it really is great for some and not for others! I was just with some friends today and we were laughing about the differences between people who are built for country life and those who aren’t!

seems silly maybe but I read the different things and mine always comes out a little rusty or not completely scraped off 🙃 it’s much harder than it needs to be for me

Yes I agree with this! I also see so much conflicting info on how to properly clean it. The last time I tried using cast iron it rusted so I got rid of it & am now trying again

Farm/ homestead wife here as well and it's so important for people who are new to the life to hear this. We have very similar lives (but I grew up on the farm and my husband married into the life). We live on the same farm property as my parents and we built a house. There are so many things that I would love to do, that just can't make the list because the farm comes first. My husband works full time off the farm and when he is home those hours are so important. We have a beef herd, 3 dairy cows in milk, breeder and feeder pigs, chickens, turkeys, rabbits, guinea hens....just so many living things that take precedence. Our bedroom is in the attic....it doesn't have flooring so I stained the subfloor and got some second hand throw rugs....there's no molding or details, but it gives a nice place to sleep. Would I love to finish it, absolutely but first the cows need a new shed to milk in, the turkeys need a coop built, the front pasture needs the fencing finished so we can utilize the grass that's out there becoming overgrown, etc, etc, etc. I would love a little bathroom put in up in our attic bedroom....honestly I'd take even the toilet being installed before I have our 6th baby in August (going downstairs to pee all night in the third trimester is fun!) but the reality is there are 20 other projects that need doing before that one. typed out I feel like it looks whiny but really it's not. I totally understand and am just as excited for a new area to milk my cows, it's just the reality that there are only so many hours in a day and we're just doing the best we can. I don't use social media other than youtube anymore but even when I did, I don't think that it did a good job of capturing this aspect of farm life. We all want to share our finished projects and accomplishments but we don't talk about what other things were sacrificed to get there. The pretty picture of a home cooked meal doesn't convey the temperature and the number of times I make super and then it has to wait an hour for the family to get inside because they were moving pigs and the last one just refuses to cross the old fence line.... that is real life on the farm.

I grew up more country and now live in the suburban countryside (I can see a barn. Ha!). At some level country is a state of mind. My kids do work but not the type of work your kids do. My kids have relationships with lots of neighborhood kids and all of our family lives near by. Thank you for sharing your beautiful life honestly. We all have our own path and that’s ok.

I grew up in the country living on the same property as my grandparents until I was 11. I loved it! Looking back now I realize how blessed my childhood was. I have 3 boys who are all "city" kids and I regret it the older they get. They just don't have the drive/work ethic that we had growing up. Maybe because we had animals and things to attend to and if not there were severe consequences.
Your husband with oven mitt on toward the end is hilarious. I don't know why I find that so funny. I even find it funny when my husband uses them. I guess maybe because the men are so big the pot holders just look tiny. I also love seeing big men holding a little tiny baby. It just makes the babies look so small and squishy. My ovaries always burst when I would see my husband holding our boys as babies/toddlers 🥰🤣
Haha truly they do look so big in the kitchen! I can do a lot of things one handed while nursing but transferring a massive skillet full of food ain’t one! 🤣
I'm 25 and played a LOT of Oregon Trail as a kid! Probably because I went to a private Catholic school, so the technology class was always a bit dated LOL. Love your videos ❤❤

Really loving your chats lately! Appreciate all of this. I romanticize the homesteading lifestyle but this was a good reality check of what it would really be. My husband also does all the home projects on his own and with 5 young kids and homeschooling, we have a hard time getting through our to do list on a 1/2 acre!
This could translate in so many ways( that I need to hear): if you choose to give your fertility to the Lord or have a lot of kids, then your to do list and social life have to be patient.
If you choose to homeschool, then you sacrifice in other ways.
You truly can’t have it all so making sacrifices for the things your prioritize is NORMAL. I am preaching to myself here because I trick myself into thinking we’re doing something wrong when our house doesn’t seem nearly as out together as the own next door with 2 kids that go to school all day.
We all make choices and there is no such thing as having it all.

You spoke every word and worry I'm my heart... Point by point through each minute mark my gosh... We live our homestead with no one near us no one to help or even talk to. CZcams is my only social media and it does get lonely and difficult and overwhelming is the theme of each day. Thank you so much for sharing your content because it does help to at least know other moms relate.
Next year when my husband gets out of the army we'll be moving to my parent's homestead. We'll be in the same house as them at first, but they want to put some kind of little house for themselves somewhere else on the property. When I was little and we first moved to Minnesota from Kansas City we lived there with my grandma for a couple years before moving to town until my grandma retired and wanted to move to town.
It's kinda nice that my friends are mostly my cousin and sisters so before I moved out if they want to hang out they usually came out to our house and helped with the garden/animals or sat and talked with me in the kitchen while I worked.
I’m also going to be 35 soon. I just had my first baby 7 weeks ago and have been watching your videos since I was pregnant. You’re an inspiration. I plan to have my daughter grow up working hard on acreage, building character. Thank you for sharing your journey. ❤
I commented on your last video about living with my in-laws, and then getting more information about your situation just further makes our stories so similar lol. We moved in with them after they bought land so we could then build on the property and do "homesteading" together also! Unfortunately, the economy has made it very difficult to afford building right now and that is why living with them in their home has become more of a permanent situation..... Or at least longer term than expected. We have the same goal of all helping out though! However, like I said in the last comment, I do really wish we had our own home where I could run it and raise my kids myself with them being close by, not literally right there interjecting on everything. Just some things to work out now, but still love the ultimate goal!

I will pickup a drill, saw, nail gun or any tool to try to fix it myself. My children are older so it’s much easier to do it than when they were little. One day my husband left for work and I decided I wanted to install butcher block. So I took the old counter out and put the new one in. I think he prefers me doing it when he’s gone too😂.

My husband was my childhood/teenage best friend my whole life but the moment he asked me on our first date when we were in our 20s I knew this was the man I would spend the rest of my life with ❤️ 9 years later still going strong! We row crop several thousand acres with our family and homestead-ish! Lol I wouldn’t change it for the world! Everything you said is so true!

I love your videos! You’re looking great and baby looks great, too. Can’t believe how big they’re getting already!!!I aspire to be living this lifestyle someday when we can afford a house. Our first baby is due in 11 weeks and we are living as close to homestead life as we can in an apartment. I have a small raised garden outside and I share with the landlord since he allowed me to build these beds here. I buy from a wonderful woman who lives a town over and sells fresh grown produce at a very affordable price. She doesn’t price gouge like most farm stands. She’s very passionate about feeding people, especially the elderly. ❤ learning how to cook everything we need from scratch. We save a ton of money doing this. I love living a “traditional” lifestyle, making sure my husband has a healthy lunch packed for work every day because his job is very physically demanding. He keeps a roof over our heads and I try my best to take care of him ❤ God bless you guys!

As a full Time mom & my husband is a stay at home dad, I really appreciate the work you do. Thanks for giving me inspiration for our family, I'm thinking about adopting our 1st grandchild. And I am unsure of how, you give me lots of inspiration. Things I don't agree with or understand, no social life, no career, no friends in town, no economic impact from you, I am not sure how that works? I could not do that. And I don't think having children is my calling, but it works for you. And homeschool, I am a public school instructor and I absolutely love my job and live it outside of school, so again we are calling for a different reason. But you are so incredibly different, my only worries are the social and economic impact of the restrictions of the life you have, and as in past videos you're husband has "reminded" you of. I don't like that. I'm too independent and would never listen to a man like that. But good to see you do it. I am definitely opposite, my husband I would never tell him certain things, like the roles are reversed. But I am amazed at your point of view & I hope the best for you. Just remember, your a amazing person and never let a man dictate what you do, ever.

I was seeing a fella ... Not dating, it was never a dating, boyfriend/girlfriend we're going to get married one day thing. We liked to watch shows and movies together and do things together. We bought a business together because it made sense at the time. 😂 Sounds nuts, but it did make sense. I had this book, Fascinating Womanhood.... Did I just slap a date on my forehead? 😂 I had read it and decided to re read it and maybe learn something this time. I felt .... Convicted.... To write down my personal needs in my future husband and to pray over that list intentionally. It was wild. I put the list under my pillow and slept on it. About 6 weeks later, I was flipping burgers and a guy walks up to the counter and I literally heard a voice, in my ear, say " that is your husband, the father of your children, the man you will marry". I about peed my pants and passed out but I kept my cool through the introductions and learned his name and where he worked. Now.... This will date me as well.... The Dixie chicks had a CD. 😂 And my favorite song was "bucket of fried chicken" and the very first time I heard it, I knew that my husband would have muddy river hair, suntanned hands and ocean blue eyes. It didn't hurt that he was born and raised in the Chicken Capitol AND his momma used to work at KFC. 😂😂😂 He was smitten the second he saw me and we knew we were going to be married before we even had our first date. It was a no brainier.

I have a question I hope you (or anyone actually) can answer … did you have to take a glucose test when you were pregnant?? They make women take them now and it doesn’t seem safe because you have consume many grams of high fructose corn syrup all at once, wait an hour and then get tested !? And it actually says on the drink -not to take while pregnant, however, health care providers are saying it is necessary to do. Did you have to do this?? I need some feedback please. Thank you
Hi! I do not do glucola or any glucose testing for that matter. I follow the risk based protocol used by most developed countries with a lot better outcomes than we have here! However, there are many alternatives for someone who still wants to do glucose testing, but doesn’t want to drink the glucola!
Ok I fully believe that living like this comes with so many deeper benefits but genuine question to anyone who can weigh in - does it really not save any money? I get the investments in the beginning. Both of my grandparents farmed (in Europe). But once you’re past that….?
We don't save any money Homesteading. I'm not sure how people would unless they're skimping on what type of feed their animals or neglecting to consider how much their time is worth...
I think it’s possible to save if you find a way to turn a profit off of something in your homestead but more often than not you break even at best!
I grew up in Portugal where the economy isn't the best and a lot of people grow most of their vegetables, eggs and poultry, some even grow a pig and buy a baby cow to grow for meat. They do it because they do save money, but I do believe that in order to save money you have to know what you are doing and work hard. Also don't get carried away with the number of animals you own or raise, some people have so many chickens they get 60 eggs a day. Even for a large family this is too much and the feed gets expensive. Just have enough for your needs. Same with raising meat chickens and pigs, one pig per year is plenty for a smaller family. Sometimes having a big operation is worse than just growing enough.
Idk how you continue to show up. Im not getting out of bed today, im sick of trying to do it all. Im coming to terms i cannot accomplish everything. I hope to be the mother/wife you are one day
