GGG - How Powerful Drills Became KO's

  • The power of Gennady GGG Golovkin is the stuff of legends. He’s knocked down and wobbled several opponent’s with his jab alone. But behind the power that once earned him a 23 fight knockout streak is a variety of technical skills that most pure boxers would envy. Unlike Canelo, GGG doesn’t use his boxing skills to switch between offensive and defensive styles . GGG instead uses his boxing skills and defensive tactics almost exclusively to pressure. In other words, every part of GGG’s style is built around one thing: Getting a knockout as quickly as possible. So today, we’re going to look at the unique drills that help to make Golovkin such a rare balance of precision and power.
At first glance, GGG’s mitt drills don’t look like anything special, just very basic combinations. But on closer inspection, there are several unusual principles that tie them all together. Principles that are highly prevalent in all of GGG’s matches.

Dude the second fight wasn't as close as people make it out to be. Golovkin outlanded Canelo by a wide margin in most rounds and with blows that were just as significant for the most part. The very few people only scored to Canelo based on him "not backing up", which isn't a scoring metric. Only 2 of the press corps who watched the fight scored it for Canelo. Ever since Canelo improved after moving up in weight people have been forgetting how bad those robberies over Golovkin were. They were highly controversial for a reason.

GGG is an olympian the skills will always be there but you can see it in his most recent fights that he's becoming much slower and he wasnt extremely fast to begin with. Hes also looked a little more fatigued in his most recent fights than he has before. Reaction time also starts to go when you get older. GGG is pretty much 40 years old. GGG's style seems like the perfect mastery of the basic. His stance and punches aren't complex. These are skills that you learn and practice as a beginner. It just goes to show that there are levels mastering the basics

Hey! I was wondering if you were ever going to do a HEMA/fencing styled video. There’s not much in the way of those kinds of break downs since the content is so niche. Would love to hear your thoughts. I also mean In movies or anime’s as well by the way.

Outstanding as always! I think Gennady Junior (my nickname for him) won the first fight, but I knew that boxing machine politics run by Arum’s modern Tamany Hall meant that he would have to take Saúl down. Saúl train specifically to deal with Gennady’s best combinations and he outlasted him in the second fight. Gennady’s skills are waning, so there is no point having a third fight. Still, he and Saúl are up there with the greatest middleweight champions of all time. No wonder Saúl spent so much time bulking up on illegal subs to face him!! 🥊

GGG is a predator in the ring, laser sharp focus and concentration. Come-forward pressure from start to finish, you just cannot back the guy up. He’s a middleweight Mike Tyson, and that 23-KO win streak is going into the history books.
We all know he won the first Canelo fight, in the second it was more even and he didn’t give Canelo any time to breathe. Canelo was looking tired in the last few rounds. Don’t think Canelo is interested in a third fight unless GGG steps up to super-middleweight division tho.
