man I wish this musical was more popular
I was raised.....listening to this score......thanks to my Grand dad......One of the most AMAZING Musicals of all time......
I think it will be very soon!!! 1:35 #143
oh my god that martha ... she's so beautiful her voice is so beautiful
I totally agree. Her performance just shimmers. :)
I would like to see and hear more from her.
Are people really complaining about historical accuracy? In 1776? There's a whole song based on the pun of going to the right, ever to the right... despite the fact that the association of conservatism with the right only happened during the French Revolution, decades after the fact. Jesus people, enjoy some damn fine music.
It wasnt in the original. It was added sometime during the revivals
Ian Carnel I mean “Cool, Cool, Considerate Men” is literally in the original Broadway cast recording from 1969, but go off, I guess.
@@iancarnel8609 It was in the original, it was removed from the film after a white house performance for Nixon, and readded in later
@@HipHopOpatamus47 It was originally removed by pressure from Richard Nixon.
@@HipHopOpatamus47 Nixon requested they cut the number for the movie. it was put back in after he died. so it was in the original broadway show.
God I hope this whole show gets filmed and released! I absolutely love this.
Stanley Scrub: History hasn't been changed. This is an adaptation.
(Also, it's strange to see someone vouching for historical accuracy with 1776 of all things, since it already takes some steep creative liberties to begin with. I suppose fools like you will bitch about anything, though.)
Stanley Scrub hamilton is cast with mostly black people. theyre just stories, dumbass.
Seconded - judging by the highlights this was a very passionate and engaging performance!
Not having this cast available on iTunes is a crime.
Put this out on DVD and CD annnd bring this show back to Broadway!!
Good God that was incredible!
oh! these snippets are NOT ENOUGH! I require to see the entire show!!!! please?
Santino Fontana is ideally suited to the role. I hope he gets to do a full production of 1776 someday. I guess I could put up with the modern dress - if there were more thought put into it. Couldn't Martha Jefferson have worn a gown? And Abigail Adams in a plaid flannel shirt and a hunting vest???
Abigail is keeping a farm. And is also a figment of his imagination.
Well I grew up on a farm and we certainly don't wear that! I guess somebody should ask farmer's wives what they wear.
"Mama, Look Sharp" gives me chills every time, and he NAILED it. He looked so young too, it's heartbreaking to think of all the boys killed in the Revolutionary War - on both sides.
I have never been able to get through that song, regardless of version without tears.
I saw the final performance of the show on Sunday April 3rd -- it was magical. The actors were amazing and the musical numbers unbelievably strong thanks to the efforts of the singers and the wonderful orchestra. After four days of performance the ensemble was extremely tight and the timing was impeccable, and this clip (while excellent) does not do justice to the live experience. They brought the house down several times, and every audience member I spoke to was thrilled and blown away. Thank you for an amazing show!
I sooooooo hope they put out a recording of this, it looks so cool!! Gah I'm obsessed with watching Santino do "Is Anybody There?"
Why wasn’t a cast album made of this cast?!? Molasses to Rum, He Plays the Violin, Cool Cool Considerate Men, and Mama Look Sharp sounded amazing in those small clips!!!!!! Didn’t even know this production happened!!!!
This is outstanding. There is a sensitivity and nuance to the music numbers that make this show seem so alive and personal. Love this! By the way, it's the 4th today! An extra reason to listen to this great American musical.
One of my all-time favorite musicals. Thank you for sharing this clip of the concert version. I wish I could have seen the whole thing live!
I hope they do a full production of this. Direction was a little rough, but that's understandable for something that had only a few days to rehearse.
I also saw it Sunday night and it was INCREDIBLE. I wish this ran for more than one weekend!
I need to see this production at its full
Really loved this production. I'd love it if they brought it to Broadway, or at least released a recording. 1776 is a strong musical on its own, and this was very well cast.
Another great ensemble putting their unique touch on this fine, fine musical. Bravo!
❣
We saw this production, and loved it. I would love to see this produced on Broadway.
Excellent ensemble!
Does anyone know who sings Momma Look Sharp in this? His voice is beautiful.
William duel
who knew John Larroquette could sing?
If you caught him with Daniel Radcliffe in How to Succeed in Business... you knew for sure.
Missed Franklin's harmony in "Lee's of old Virginia"...it' so beautifully sung by Howard Da Silva in the original. Actually, a lot of vocal quality is lost from those days to now.
Yes, I was thinking the same thing. There are actors who can actually act AND sing, so it drives me crazy when they go with a non-singer for a MUSICAL! Proves how messed up the world is.
...somebody missed the "rutledge is 26 years old" memo, clearly.
They clearly cast people who had the energy of the characters they portrayed without being overly concerned with historical accuracy, and I love that they did. I mean... If you're gonna be mad about Rutledge, what are your comments about Lee and Mrs. Jefferson?
@@jenniferaustin8617 You're quite right. Not that it matters, but the original Rutledge Clifford David and John Cullum in the film were both just over 40 when they played it. Age is just a number.
This excellent.
Attended the 4/2 performance and had a wonderful time! The humorous parts about politics itself played splendidly within the audience now as it did over 40 years ago. I do so wish this could do a Broadway transfer to play for the election season. The voices and orchestra were top notch and I'd love to hear a cast recording of it! I was skeptical of the modernization, but it worked very, very well!!
I wasn't a fan of the Lee, but Benjamin Franklin and Bryce were wonderful
William Daniels,Ken Howard starred in the film verison of this musical.
Fortunately i saw the
Original
Show!
Santino and Bryce in the same show? Oh my gosh!
Okay.
Santino is charming no surprise.
I really wish he'd get another role in a Disney film. They did him wrong by making Hans evil.
Y'all, 1776 is historically inaccurate to begin with. If your "historical accuracy" obsessed minds can forgive that, they can forgive non-conventional casting.
i would say it's historically limited, not inaccurate.
For a concert performance in mufti, I have no quibble. It would be another thing if it were a full-blown costumed production because these are real people being depicted and if we're going to see one end of the spectrum complain about Caucasians playing Asians and Mexicans, then consistency requires that actors play historic figures who are of the same general ethnicity. And don't get me started on the asinine desecration of this musical with the "all-female" version that I have no intention of ever giving the time of day ever.
it's actually fairly accurate. half the script comes straight from letters these men and women wrote. Including the fantastic "Franklin, Washington, and the Horse" monologue by Adams. He wrote that in a letter to Abigail haha
@@epaddon when white people play non white roles, it takes away from casting minority populations that otherwise don’t usually get cast. In addition, half the time white people are outfitted in clothing, behaviors, and makeup that play into harmful stereotypes. plus, with the non-male cast currently running of this production, it was meant as a statement anyways, if you look up interviews
Voices were great. I’d love to dub the 1776 movie with these voices. Laraquette was impressive!
Was that Bryce Pinkham singing at one point
I saw this April 2nd
Speaking as a member of the Original Broadway Cast (REALLY!) this was cast for vocal strength, not appropriateness for the parts, acting wise.
It's driving me crazy. Who is singing Cool Considerate Men? I know his face but don't know his name. Please help. This show looks great by the way. Wish I could have seen it.
+mmgringoire2 Bryce Pinkham from A gentleman's guide to love and murder
Thank you! It would have taken me ages to figure it out.
Please pardon my question, but in what year did this production take place?
John Larroquette!!
can anybody picture benjamin franklin as dan fielding after watching john sing
This cast is ok. But Idk about Adams and Rutledge. :/ I love their voices but for those characters? Not sure.
Edit: okay figured it out. Their voices are too smooth and angelic like. Instead of the shaper, louder more (squawky?) voices that their character’s previous portrayals had.
So, I did Molasses to Rum for a showcase type thing at my old theatre school. I mainly did it because I wanted to show off my potential for playing a villian. I now really wish I had chosen a different song because everyone in my class called me a racist afterwards. I mean, I guess that means I did a good job but it wasn't really worth it. Especially since no one even clapped when I was done.
That’s sad! That is the whole point of the song! That had have taken guts to do!
Why aren’t they wearing the costumes?
It’s supposed to be a “modern-day” retelling of the story.
Wait are they modernizing 1776?? How the heck? The date's even in the title!
There not modernizing it. They are just doing it in a concert style
+Sisi B Ah, gotcha.
OMG you're dumb!
and you're annoying
Actually I think that was a very appropriate question considering the way it is presented in the video, and the fact that they "modernize" practically everything, even if it shouldn't be. Personally, if someone's singing about signing the Declaration of Independence, I wanna see them in some satin and wearing a powdered wig!
Lol 1776 but a modern style of costumes
Why does anyone still see Black and White? Haven't we come farther than that? We should all aspire to color blindness. Productions like this can help us.
I had the good fortune of seeing the original Broadway production. The voices in City Center are no match of the Broadway or movie versions (which used most of the original stage cast). I find the City Center vocalists to be out of tune on numerous occasions, not together, not even singing parts when they're scored ("Lee's of Virginia"). Jefferson's wife was the best of the bunch, and actually sounds a lot like Betty Buckley (original Broadway production). As much as I love the stage play, I wouldn't waste my money on this concert production.
You are either delusional or tone deaf. The CC cast is the best I've ever heard.
+Mike Anderson get your hearing checked. I have perfect pitch.
Your teachers lied - if you even studied voice
And blocked.
JM13820 happens to be my husband. He has perfect pitch. I am a trained singer myself and I don't know what your credentials may be but you have one hell of a nerve disrespecting anyone when it is clear that you can't even hear how FLAT this cast is at times.
The one standout is the actress playing Martha Jefferson. As my husband stated, the resemblance to Betty Buckley from the OBC is so marked as to be almost eerie. At any rate she is the only member of the cast from whom I did not hear a single sour note. Pity I could not say the same thing about the man playing John Adams.
This socks! Bring back the original stage production! I hate it!
Sucks!
Uh, how do you propose we do that? All the members of the original production are either dead or too old to act.
@@runefaustblack Are u serious? Of course not! Just set the show in the original format! Did I not make myself clear? I don't like it updated to 2021. Therefore it is not 1776! Clear now.
Because Hamilton, I guess...but apparently still as corny as ever.
Momma Look Sharp seemed to have layers though.
+TruthSerum101 Corny? How?
I'm all for unconventional casting except if they are real people.
Well, the only people who'd really be able to object are the founding fathers, and, well...they're all dead.
1776 was a great play, although not 100% accurate. This production, however, is 100% inaccurate. As with "Hamilton," blacks need not apply.
***** You missed the point. The producers of "Hamilton" are refusing to accept white performers, Tubman.
+UN Owen This isn't quite accurate. Yes, they put out casting calls for "non white" actors, however, there are white performers in the cast. One being the character King George, which has been performed by well established actors up to this point. They quite possibly have a few already lined up for their regional and touring companies. The other leads, however, need to be filled with mostly "non white" performers. Plenty of casting calls have gone out asking specifically for "white" performers, so I don't see a problem that Hamilton requests to take auditions from "non white." Again, that's an audition casting call. It does not speak to the ultimate racial make up of the cast. PS, I'm incredibly white myself!
Adele DiRenzo Too long. Keep CZcams comments pithy.
+UN Owen You don't have a valid, informative response so you resort to snark. Classic.
Adele DiRenzo My response is informative, regardless of your biased-opinion.
