Edit: Slime made with just PVA glue is not harmful for the planet, the problem is when other things, like polymoer clay (which is made from plastic) or beads, are added, I like slime too, and I have made some of my own, I was just commenting on the issue.

Actually, slime has no ill effects on the environment! Slime is created from a reaction between polyvinyl alcohol (pva) and borax under alkaline conditions. This reaction can be reversed with acidic conditions, heat, or dilution (like how slime melts back into glue if you add something acidic like lemon juice, if you leave it to get too warm, or if you add too much water!) Individually, the polyvinyl alcohol and the borax do not harm the environment. "Once PVA is dissolved in water, specific microorganism will cause it to degrade [...] into water and carbon dioxide." (plasticisrubbish.com/2014/07/12/whitby-goths-and-cocoa/). Borax, while it can be caustic to skin in high doses (just like a very high dose of baking soda!), is a naturally occurring compound in the earth. In short, slime is biodegradable!
