    I took my samurai hubs apart the other day and thought I was doin the most by shooting them with brake parts cleaner and putting some more grease in them.... thanks for bringing me back to Earth

    This is art. Thank you for showing me how to do stuff I will never venture to do because I don’t have your knowledge or skills. Though I thoroughly enjoy and appreciate watching you make this look easy.

    FYI - to get those cone washers out it's better to tap on the stud rather than on the hub body. They will pop right out real easy. Plus it keeps the body from getting banged up. I just use the head of a long bolt and a mallet.

      @Kiwigd Před 3 lety +1

      .. agreed.. that way has worked for me many times 🤙

    • @stevendouglas6593
      @stevendouglas6593 Před 3 lety +1

      Yep, hitting on the end of the stud is the way to go. I bought a brass rod and slightly hollowed out one end. This hollow locates the drift on the end of the stud and the brass prevents damage to the steel stud.

      @@stevendouglas6593 thanks mate.. tomorrow I’m making myself a pocketed drift just like you describe.. great tip!!👍

      Bro I have mushroomed my studs cause I didn’t use a brass rod so now I’m in the process of a full rebuild lol

  • @jbeebo
    @jbeebo Před 3 lety +3

    FYI for future reference. To get the cone washers to pop out, there's no need to hit that nice shiny housing with a hammer, or force a screwdriver or chisel between the hub and the locking housing. It's likely to get damaged by this technique and then you'll have trouble with the seals. Of course one could sand or mill the surface flat again, but there's a better way....
    The right way, which causes zero damage to any of the parts: take a hammer and brass drift and hit the end of the studs that hold the cone washers. A few hits and they'll loosen right up. Grab them out with some pliers. WheeliePete demonstrates (czcams.com/video/3djqDPYI9tM/video.html). I've done it a couple times works perfect.
    WheeliePete also has an excellent vid about rebuilding the Aisin manual hubs (czcams.com/video/W78RkF1mUOE/video.html).

    Amazing work. The attention to detail in making those hubs look that killer. If you wanna take my 3rd gen and get creative with it would love to see what you could do to a modern truck.

    My 1998 pickup has red centers, I guess they changed colors at some point. I always learn some little trick on your videos. Using the grease to pick up the detent ball was a good way to make sure not to drop it. I have one of my hubs that is hard to engage. Now I have the confidence to take it apart and grease it up. Maybe some rattle can. The zinc looked great with the black/gray combo.

    Curious what all you replaced during this? I assume the o-ring/gaskets, looks like the bolts were new as well?
    Did you use all the same springs, detent ball, cone washer, etc?
    Thanks again. Awesome work!
