  • October 3rd, 2020! Tessa and I tackled the last backpacking trip of the year to Ice Lake in the Eagle Caps of Oregon. We road tripped to the Wallowa Lake trailhead which is just south of Joesph, Oregon the previous night, and car camped to get us by until the next morning. We weren’t in a huge rush, and so we got up, packed up, filled our bellies up, and took off on the trail for Ice Lake. The trail was beautiful, and before we knew it we made it to the lake. It was relatively flat for the majority of the hike to the Ice Lake Junction, and from here the elevation began. We hiked switchback after switchback, and before we knew it we were there.
Our total mileage from the trailhead to the lake was 8.57 miles hiked in 5 hours 5 minutes. We also had a total elevation gain of 3,248 feet in that time.
Stay tuned for the upcoming video for where we tackle Matterhorn Peak!

Man, we stayed up there for a weekend and happened to land a spot right next to the lake. We had a ranger happen to come by right after we setup. She asked if we had our entrance tag and made us read it. It says that you cannot camp within I think it was 100-200ft from the lake. She told us she wouldn’t issue us a ticket but we needed to move camp. We didn’t read the tag 🫣 when we hiked the enchantments our camp was right next to the lake and it was an established camp. Maybe because they have toilets 🤷🏻‍♀️

Not to be a Karen, but dude - did you notice that other camp was Not right on the trail and looked like it was 100-200 ft from the lake. Then I saw “food in the tent”. You’ll have your own experiences and learn from them. I learned my lesson when a chipmunk chewed through my gear.
Your happy smiles and laughter were great.

You're not being a Karen as I see where you're coming from. I'm not sure which campsite you're referring to being 100-200 feet away from the lake, but all the ones that I remember were much less than 100 feet. The lake was packed, and that's the best place we could find to to make camp. We didn't like the site either, and as soon as we could we moved camp the next morning to a better spot as seen in the video. This was two years ago, and I'm much more informed now about where to camp and would like to think that I've learned from this. If you watch my more recent videos you'll note that none of them are camped next to water. As far as food goes, I've also been hanging my food using a Ursack for all my trips since this one. Thanks for watching.

Awesome surprise bringing the chairs. I hate packing chairs, but they really do make the time spent in camp so much more enjoyable. Great video once again, beautiful and fun to watch.

I hate packing them too! But they make all the difference when relaxing in camp. We just upgraded to the Helinox ones and I’m pretty excited!

Well done. You escaped all that smoke we were having over here western WA.

Yeah I remember being a little weary about the smoke, and there was actually still quite a bit. We climbed Matterhorn Peak the next day, and visibility was still a little low. Thanks for checking out the video!
