"The night Ben died...I hunted down the man who I thought did it. I wanted him dead. I got what I wanted. It didn't make it better. It took me a long time to...learn to get through that darkness."
That film was perfect. When Tobey said that, my mind flashbacked to this very scene! I could hear him say “did you give him a chance? DID YOU!?!”
This might be one of the top comments soon.
And the fact he mention the Chrysler building as a place to get away from everything immediately took me to the scene after this and it still gets me
That was a nice heartbreaking reference though
That line was so perfect… It made me think also to the night Tobey “killed” sandman. Same vibes
Toby was Definitely the definition of “childhood Spider-Man”
The one and only spider-man
This trilogy made Tobey most accurate straight out of comic book character with villains on point, third was in no doubt weakest but its characters do feel like characters,Sam Raimi did his job well done.
I can't agree more.
He holds a special place in my heart.Watching this scene makes me feel a kid excited to see Spider-Man finally in the big screen.
For real. I miss the days when he was spiderman.

You're right. I've seen a lot of comments about how Toby Maguire makes bad faces and funny sounds. But those faces and noises are closer to how real people react than anything in modern MCU movies. People aren't pretty when their emotions are under a lot of stress. We really do make ugly faces and sounds like that. When he stops the train in spiderman 2, I imagine someone under that level of physical pressure would probably make some kind of face like that in real life too, if it could happen.
@@Tjerty exactly lmao 😆 no one looks perfect when their showing a lot of emotions 🤦♂️
The way he just violently beats this dude down...
It's exactly how I imagine an early Spidey would fight the killer. Sam knew what he was doing directing this.
Spider-Man always gets the upper hand on his enemies whenever he gets really really angry.
Only thing is this guy never killed uncle Ben according to Spiderman 3. I remember seeing that in the theatre this was a real what the fuck moment
You can’t blame him tho
@@yungsauske7608 not saying I am. None of us knew at the time. I was just stating a fact that's all
Sam knew 100% what he was doing with these Spider-Man films. Great things can only happen for so long. Also the reason as to why the 3rd film was rushed because they had a specific date for the movie to be released. Should've took their time.
They honestly nailed the feeling of the first swing. You feel the anxiety and lack of confidence in Peter's movements yet it's such an exhilarating experience.
one of my favorite parts about this clip, you can totally tell it’s his first time and can see the progression thru out the 3 movies
Agreed.
tom felt this same rage, luckily tobey was there to help him out
Tobey and Andrew would probably have the dopest talks about their losses. Andrew was still in the same mindset that Tobey was here and that was heartbreaking to see. I’d give my left arm to see Tobey help guide him away from that dark place since as the most experienced of the three, he can identify with what each of them are going through.
@@Awesomemt2018 he did gave Andrew few relationship pointers/tips, Tobey said to Andrew "I wouldn't give up, but we made it work, me and MJ"
Not for the guy who killed tom’s ben
Tobey is a Sage to other Peters.
I know
This is the first time he swings. His moves are clumsy and awkward. And look at how masterfully and flawlessly he swings at the end of the film. He's matured a lot throughout the film
Also mirrors how he swings without the suit in Spider-Man 3, he doesn’t grunt as much, showing his growth and muscle memory paralleled to people who work out constantly and go at it with ease
He swung pretty good in the wrestling ring earlier before this.
@DEREK HALE dude what the heck are you doing? Why?
Sounds like this Derek guy wants to get as famous as that u/YAYVIDEOGAMES guy Nexpo did a video about.

Iron Boy is no match for Peter (Tobey), then again the new ones are trash
This is one of the few scenes in movie history where I wouldn't change a thing
I would have had the gun cocked as it made the cocking sound. It was not cocked in this scene.
The only thing I would change in this scene is if the robber had a mask on and then in the warehouse Peter rips it off so it's a surprise to the audience that the killer was the guy that he let go.
agreed
Apart from the guy mysteriously losing his hat at 3:29 - 3:30. He needs his hair to be showing for Peter to recognise him, but it doesn't look like it's been knocked off, it just sort of ceases to exist..
Perhaps the fight scene was edited way after filming and they thought we wouldn't notice. Well I did!
maybe it fell of off while he was fighting??
There’s so many ways he could have turned into a villain from this scene
Thank god he didn't lol
Could of been a birth a villain but here, a hero was born
@I Am Who I Am what
He could have turned into a villian only if he didn't had realised that the criminal was the same person he helped escape.
@@atulsomane9715 Peter actually didn't push him so he technically is not close to be a villain he just protected himself
At 3:50, Peter remembers the scene differently. In the actual scene, thief was just a bumbling guy awkwardly pressing the elevator buttons, but Peter remembers him as a calm, calculated man giving him a cold look.
Just goes to show how our perception changes our memory.
Good detail
Perfectly sums up the essence of the character. He’s initially filled with rage but realises it was his fault. He realised he can’t just hunt down criminals but instead protect the innocent.

17 years later and it’s still the best revenge scene in Spider-Man history
VDLS we don’t talk about that
@VDLS technically not, since sandman didn't want to kill uncle Ben at all, and he was actually about to put the gun down, but when the thief ran towards sandman he startled him while the gun was in his hand so he shot uncle Ben accidentally, so it is still Peter's fault because if he had stopped the thief sandman would've listened to uncle Ben or at least he would've took the car without killing him.
@VDLS He didn't intend to, imagine if you're holding a knife cooking with your wife, and while cooking your daughter enters the kitchen unnoticed, and then she touches you and scares the living shit out of you that you end up stabbing your wife accidentally, would you call yourself a killer?
@VDLS bruh understand what i am saying, now what if your daughter never entered the kitchen, would you still kill your wife? Exactly, you won't, same case with spiderman.
Nahhhh. This movie wack
0:13 The music, the Anger, the transition into CGI, and the shot of the spider… all flawless and all fantastic!

"My Uncle Ben was killed. It was my fault. The night Ben died, I hunted down the man who I thought did it. I wanted him dead. I got what I wanted. It didn't make it better. It took me a long time to learn to get through that darkness.”
Peter learned this the hard way in Spider-Man 3. Neither the robber nor Sandman were to blame for his uncle's death but his own for negligence.
Funny to think he didnt mention the killer died accidentally so Toms peter probably thinks Tobey just beat him to death
I hate when ppl says he’s a bad actor I watch this and I feel the emotions of his character
Nobody says he's a bad actor. People say he's the best Spiderman.
People are insane to say he’s a “bAd aCtor” at all. He’s not, he’s amazing and phenomenal as an actor and as Spider-Man
Tobey Maguire in my opinion is the Christopher Reeves of Spiderman... Just one of those original and perfectly hard to replace... His appearance, acting, voice, charm, charisma, emotion and humour is like the perfect Spiderman
Stop being a fanboy Tobey really is a bad actor but this doesn't mean that we don't love him
@@xyzabc6494 LMAO Piss off with that nonsense that you have the audacity. Tobey IS NOT a "bad actor" that goes beyond any "fanboy" crap that you're trying to spew out here because most people can acknowledge that praise him for his role in these movies and the great performance in gives.
You have to be an unbelievably insane to believe that nonsense because he's proven himself to be an amazing actor, outside the spider-man movies, even tho he's an amazing actor alone in these movies already. Piss off with your nonsense..
Uncle Ben's death and the hunt for his killer was done so much better in this movie than it was in Amazing Spider-Man. Peter doesn't even find him in Webb's series and stops searching for him for some unexplained reason. It's mindboggling how they messed that up.
yeah, this one peter beats the shit out of him and totally lets his anger do everything. A great first battle to teach peter to control his anger, as he almost killed him.
Joey Style nobody said he killed him
Captain Stacy felt more important than Uncle Ben did in that movie. I don't even think Peter even felt guilty about his Uncle dying in TASM films.
man, he was making jokes with the possible killer... shit
Tasm series was terrible... Homecoming is a little better but still nowhere close Raimi's trilogy.
I love this part 0:15 ! the music, the scene, putting his mask, then showing the symbol then the way he climbs the wall, and Peter's goal, it was just the start of a great hero. It gives me goosebumps!
True
After everything, this is still the best scene in any Spider-Man movie.
Train fight/stop in Spider-Man 2 ???
@@Gervontae_Feefo_Davis Spectacle-wise yeah, but this scene does so much more character-wise. Covers the entire beat of Peter learning about the death, facing the killer, and learning his lesson while also pushing him to control his power. Kevin Sipos He did..In Liz’s party
To this day, Raimi is the only guy who was able to nail this scene perfectly!! From the moment Peter finds his uncle to the inevitable confrontation where he realizes it’s the same guy he let get away is just pure epic storytelling. You can feel the horror in Peter’s eyes and heart when he recognizes the thief and just how hollowed he feels at the grave mistake he made in not stopping him. This was the moment that he truly became Spider-Man. And nobody has ever done it right since...

@@tristanavila1876 not in this movie or 2.
What about when they did it in Spectacular Spider Man? I know there were a lot of references to the Raimi films in that cartoon series but even still it did a good job retelling the origin story in the episode "Intervention".
@@Tulf42 the problem with that is because its a children show they had to restrict the story. they could not let spiderman kill the murderer of his uncle and that adds a lot to the scene. it makes sure spiderman had his revenge and does no longer pursue it and also allow him to think about his action instead of projecting it into someone else. the cartoon is fine but I believe killing off the murder leads to a greater tragedy and better story overall.

1:54 Very subtle and good attention to detail here. You can see Peter is spinning around, struggling to control the direction he wants to swing. I personally love this scene because Peter very clearly doesn't want to swing off that building at the beginning. He's terrified. But still he pushes through despite his fears because he knows it's something he has to do. This scene right here is the birth of Spiderman.
That's one thing I personally felt was missing from MCU Spidey. We never got to see the struggles Tom went through to learn his powers, or why he started fighting crime. Tobey and Andrew didn't give a crap about fighting crime until their uncle was shot. For Tom, they just imply he became Spiderman because he was bored.
In Civil War Tom's Spiderman said to Tony "When you can do the things that I can, but you don't, and then the bad things happen, they happen because of you." This implies he witnessed some tragedies unfold and felt an urge to start intervening as a superhero, just not as intense as an Uncle Ben death tragedy.
Damn, Spidey's moves at 3:24 were impressive. I didn't even realize until now that he kicked that knife out of the guy's hand into the ceiling.
And the fact that we actually see the bad guys Death which we will never see in today's movies
he kicks him so hard that the beanie disappears too lol
I really love how Ben's killer dies by accident in this version as opposed to Peter webbing him up in every other version. Really adds to Spider-Man's no killing rule. He saw his uncle's killer die but now he knows that it didn't make him feel better or change anything.

(However, I know that Spider-Man 3 has come to play a very important part in our history with time, so I'm still thankful for it's existence.)
The transition from sadness to anger within both Tobey and the music is amazing. I also like the gloominess of his realization of uncle bens killer.
Very clever set up of how he figures how to swing through buildings. First time, finds out how to spin his web, second time he hits a wall, this time he avoids the wall by shooting another wall, then another, and then he's swinging through buildings. That was really fun to watch!

Spider-Man gets stronger than his enemies when he gets really really angry!
He was full of rage when he thought that guy killed his uncle, he was furious when the Green Goblin and Doc Ock threatened to kill Mary Jane, Peter got really angry again when he thought Sandman killed his uncle on purpose and Peter more full of furious rage than Eddie and Symbiote were when they as Venom killed Harry.

I saw it when I was 11 and it was amazing, and all the toys that came out leading up to it's release all said "official movie merchandise" with a cool Spidey logo and it felt awesome to have those toys cuz they were "official" and when the marvel logo and spider man logo came on screen every one clapped and wooed wildly and opening credits were amazing feeling like they took forever but at the same time so short and boy what a way to set the tone for the theater
"There's nothing more frightening than the rage of a gentleman"
This scene is incredibly badass and entertaining, and the music accompanies it perfectly from beginning to end. The experience is so well put together, with relatable characters and situations, that you almost feel part of it; either people forgot how to tell a story or nowadays public's standards have plumbed dramatically.
I would say both. Even though the climbing scenes are obviously CGI it doesn’t matter.
Tobey Maguire can be really scary when he’s angry.
He’s excellent in this movie

Only difference is, Carradine meets his end by way of gravity, as opposed to being webbed up for the police.
@@lancecurry7538 that's actually a cool difference
Peter doesn't kill. And during the Raimi films, all of them die by their own hand
Carradine falls through the window by itself
Norman, Otto and Eddie died by their own hand too
@@TheDevilDucker Death by self destruction. Granted they all lost something that led them down that path. Norman his Company, Otto his wife and self control, Eddie his girlfriend, job and dignity..
@@TheDevilDucker wow
@@TheDevilDucker Well, no, Peter had an opportunity to catch him. He's also responsible for Carradine's death. Yes, he was shocked, but he was confused, but nonetheless.
Green Goblin's example is better because Peter had less time to react and Goblin intended to kill him.
"The night Uncle Ben died, I hunted down the man who I thought did it. I wanted him dead. I got what I wanted. It didn't make it better. It took me a long time to learn to get through that darkness."

It’s just beautiful, when he is climbing up the building really fast you can basically feel what he is feeling when everything looks sideways and dizzy, also you can just hear the adrenaline building up when he’s about to try and swing RIGHT this time instead of falling, and when he’s getting used to it, u can also just hear the legend of Spider-Man beginning, this is easily the best marvel movie scene ever created

1:29 this is the same swing peter does when the building is burning later in the movie
This movie has done a spectacular job of building Peter as Spider-Man. This is pretty much a scene where Spider-Man is born, both in terms of skills and mentality.
I love Pete’s reaction when he realizes/thinks that his intervention could of saved his Uncle’s Life.
