  • Congratulations Malaika & nick
It was Such a beautiful African cultural ceremony with a blend of American
A Kalenjin wedding custom known as "Koito" ("To give away") entails negotiating a bride's dowry.
The different sub-tribes have different customs. For instance, the Kipsigis have smaller festivals to which only members of their immediate family and close friends are invited, whereas the Nandi hold grand celebrations to which the entire community is invited.
The main components of all of them, nevertheless, are the same: the dowry payment is negotiated by a small group of chosen relatives or negotiators from both families in a private area apart from the other visitors. When the negotiations come to an end, those in attendance view Mursik, who is inebriated, as a sign of agreement and as being essential to the process.
Following the discussions, a party is held where older members from both sides give the bride and groom advise on how to live as a family. Presents and symbolic gifts are typically presented to the newlyweds at this ceremony.
The koito is becoming more and more important as the main event as the kaayaaet'ap koito is sometimes combined with it and other times the tunisiet is abandoned in favor of it. It is sometimes highly colorful and occasionally resembles a wedding ceremony.
