Why not use a simple silly putty timer to disconnect the circuit. Works well in free flight.

Pretty slick man. That would be nice if you can work it the other way too. Throw it as a glider, then have the motor kick on. Or one motor on with another off, then switch. You could get it to fly out then back. Mosfets can do that, right? Turn one circuit on while keeping a second circuit off until the first circuit turns off.
Like instead of remote control, it would be programmed time control

Will be a while before I have time to do that. Follow the link in the description to the webpage of the club that invented this timer. They have an alternative design for running brushless motors from an ESC.

Wingspan was 30cm. Yes, motor and gearbox was from a parkzone vapor. Glad you liked it.

Good video! but It seems using supercapacitor and 2 AA batteries to charge it is way more simple solution.

The battery in the plane is the one powering the motor. The other battery is just used to charge the timer circuit. You can modify the circuit to use only one battery and a switch.

@@grahambate3384 To increase the run time, increase the capacitor or resistor I used in this video. Making either value about 8 times higher will give you roughly 4 minutes of run time.

what mosfet you are using?
soumita bhattacharya IRF540N. They're pretty common because they're used with Arduinos. But any equivalent will do. You just need a signal diode that can withstand the current draw.

Nice video. 1 question. Will balance be changed when motor is turned on?. I made one free flight too. It flies fine when motor is turned off, but headstand immediately. Not sure what caused it.
