I do verbal cues like this, but giving each kid his/her color-coded clock would help them be more independent, which is good.

Yes, and keep in mind that verbal cues don't help them develop a sense of the passage of time which is the point of this clock. It's so they can learn how to feel time

Is this a certain type of clock, or did you just color it?

Yes it has a glass face because you can't color in a clock with a plastic face The dry erase marker won't stay on it.
